Rodney Jerkins produced So Lonely, the One And Only part 2 remix off the Mimi platinum edition. When she blew up hard core in 2005 that was one of almost 10 songs off that album they played on the radio here in Chicago. Not sure if she and Rodney did anything else together that didn't end up on her albums.

World songs (39,423)

It's cool to me hearing which Mariah songs are still played in different parts of the world. Here in Chicago I think it's Always Be My Baby that gets the most recurrent airplay.

Which Mariah single would you not have wanted as a single? I'm gonna go with Never Too Far. So not a fan. There's a different song on Glitter that I love, but I'll leave it at that.

Forever and Butterfly (38,933)
by enwar00 from usa

Going back to Randy's question, I think both these songs possibly could have been #1s in the US. Both were big radio hits, and Mariah was selling singles by the millions back then. Forever was during the famous Daydream era that we keep speaking of, and had it been released as a commercial single it may have reached the top. Fourth single, less sales, everybody had Daydream, I get that, so put another B-side on there, I don't know. Same thing with Butterfly, and that was only the second single from that album. And I'm not even saying they should've released these singles, just saying that they could have possibly hit the top. Personally, I like Butterfly better. I also think the video was very different. My favorite videos were off that album.

Randy, Shake it Off (38,932)
by enwar00 from usa

|
|
Haha I like your game. The first single that comes to my mind is Shake it Off. Mariah seemed unstoppable around that time. The single hit big and flew up the charts and was following the record-breaking momentum of We Belong Together, so it seemed destined to hit #1. Not only was it a catchy, bouncy song but in my opinion had a fierce video that was popular as well. I understand that Golddigger went nuts on downloads and kept it at #2, but it's worth mentioning that if We Belong Together wasn't that huge a hit, Shake it Off would've hit #1. What a problem to have though really. By the way, I love love love Can't Let Go, to this day. Brilliant song both in its lyrics and delivery. As an adult the lyrics definitely have taken on meaning for me vs. when it was released. Also, no matter what was said about that video or if Mariah was embarrassed by it or whatever, I love it and think it's classy.

Deedre, #Hermosa, I feel the same way about that video from the first time I saw it. I don't mind the song at all either, and I wasn't offended by the remixes either. The way I looked at them was, take it or leave it. Actually my friend djs at a club and Thursday night I stopped by so he played the Sidney Sampson remix. I was excited I have to say. It was like the highlight of my night, because mostly it was a boring night otherwise.

I had to think about this for a minute and then I forgot to respond, but I have a few single covers, not just one. Anytime You Need A Friend, the one with the purple tint, she's just so pretty, Underneath The Stars, Dreamlover, The Roof, and We Belong Together. Pretty much in that order. Favorite album cover is easy for me, Butterfly, but the alternate cover where she's looking to the side and her hair is all over, you know that one? Wow I just remembered she signed a poster of that pic when I had met her at a signing. I still need to frame that.

I Love The Way (38,845)
by enwar00 from usa

Personally, I'd never heard or read any comparisons between Ariana Grande and Mariah before this board, so I can't comment or be irritated on any of that. But I can comment on what I've heard with my own ears. I've only heard her one song I Love The Way, and the first time I heard it on the radio a couple months ago, I thought it was Mariah. I wasn't sure, because it was only the last part where its like background vocals and the chorus, but between that and the beat, it was enough to call the radio station and ask if they were playing a new Mariah song. The dj was like, no, its Ariana Grande, but Mariah does have a new song out. This was after #Beautiful had been on the radio. In any case, I like that song, and I remember being excited in those few seconds that it was the new Mariah song.

Looking In (38,683)

I'm obsessed with the black and white and pink yet lavender clip of Mariah singing Looking In from yesterday. I can't even know what to say about how it feels watching it. Hearing and seeing it live brings the song to life for me this many years later. Amazing.

Isn't it great when that happens? That same song did that to me last year. I always enjoyed it, but one day I randomly played it on Vevo and something just clicked and I had to repeat it like 5 times in a row. The song I recently rediscovered was Bliss. I very rarely listen to Rainbow, almost never, but I listened to it off the Playlist cd and I was really digging it.

Too R&B (38,640)
by enwar00 from usa

I have to somewhat disagree that Mariah came out as like this pure pop artist. She was just really popular. I feel like right from the debut she was singing r&b or r&b flavored songs. They were almost all #1 hits on the r&b charts too. Although that first album did have variety, she even rapped on it lol. Same with Emotions and Unplugged, like the song If It's Over. I do agree though that with Music Box they pushed for a more poppy sound, for lack of a better word, with more ballads and adult contemporary. And that made her even more popular, especially internationally. So I don't know why they wouldn't put Slipping Away on Daydream because it was too r&b, because like Stacey said, so are a lot of songs on there. Maybe the beat was too hip hop lol. Maybe they didn't want thirteen songs because of superstition. Maybe Mariah didn't think it was good enough. Don't we just love it though?

I like the #Hermosa video, it's cute. I think I prefer it over the original, seems natural and I like the scenery. I personally don't mind that it's the Spanglish version of the song, it doesn't offend me at all.

I agree with you in your last post. I'm thinking they're appealing to fans of A$AP Rocky with it. It'll get some extra exposure, maybe streams, downloads, and that's the goal. Now there's four more coming, which may have the same affect, maybe on different audiences. I don't think the promo for this single has been bad. That's just my opinion. It's been consistent and the song is performing the same way on the charts. Speaking of charts, since that's the most important thing not if you like a song, it can still go back up. All it takes is people clicking this week for it to shoot up on Billboard next week. Plenty of songs go up down up.

That is so random, how did you even think of that? I actually don't like that song, but it would be an interesting remix, and if Mariah redid it, I probably would like it. Speaking of George Michael, I used to not be able to tell the difference when the beginning of Can't Let Go and his song One More Try would come on the radio. Similar intros, in my opinion, back then at least.
