About MusicfanJ from Germany:
I'm a fan of Mariah since Daydream came out.

Completely agree. The quality on the streaming charts are so poor now. I had to google the song because the German radio stations don't play it/or not often (maybe on the young/fm). To compare that song with OSD is ridiculous. When OSD was released the radio stations played it on my German radio station every hour, I swear. That time was heaven to be a Mariah fan. I have no problem that Mr. Nas X and the country singer broke MC's record because that song is nothing that will last. Just compare the lyrics. When Mariah starts to sing: Sorry I never told you, goosebumbs guaranteed. And yes I love Boyz II Men, one of the best artists at that time in 95/96 for sure. Real rnb from the heart. I wonder if a ballad or a slow song has a chance today to be on number one. (When it's not from Adele, Bruno Mars or Ed Sheeran.) Maybe a movie song?

I just watched it on YouTube and all that comes to my mind is that it's nothing special even if it's something "new" with the rap and the country influences. Ok for the radio, if you listen to it besides. The video is funny but that's it. Seems to be a one-hit wonder like Gangnam Style, Despacito and so on. I understand that Mariah won't be part of a remix. [Webmaster: Psy is not a one-hit wonder.]

As always I love your ideas Bill. Yes for the Christmas album. I would also spend the money for the St. John the Devine concert plus the interviews and all the extras. I want the rare things to be officially released in good quality. And please her debut with all the rare and unreleased songs, remixes, plus the duets and then I would be in lambily heaven.

Oh Andrew I never thought of the "theme thing" until now. You're right it's a bit weird with the third person. Superstars like to talk about themselves as a third person? I don't know.

I love Bill's suggestions too. I wonder why her record label can't release something just for the fans. Her early years are more than phenomenal and if I think of all the unreleased songs, demos and interviews I really wish Mariah would give us this "package". It's time.

I also think that won't happen. The Charmbracelet tour would have been so great on DVD, it's really a wasted opportunity.

No TJ you are not the only one. I was thinking exactly the same. The interview was so boring. Has she nothing else to tell? I know it's just a beauty magazine but it was indeed a bit weird to read and nothing new. To say something positive I like the cover.

"A dude dressed up as marshmallow." Haha so true I even had to google him to know what he is doing. He does the typical trendy music right. I heard one song with Bastille. Anyway I think the costume is one reason why the kids love him. And I always love a fun and relaxed MC too.

Re: Katy Perry shading Mariah in 2014 (90,225) (90,233)

I just heard a new Katy Perry Song "Never really over" song on the radio. Now my ears are hurting. Seriously what an annoying song. That has nothing to do with music. Pop at its worst. She never had a voice but some early songs were ok and fun because of the production, but nothing that will stay and you want to hear for a longer time.

Re: Mariah's greatest lyric (90,212) (90,213)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

Oh yes, "Looking in" is even greater than "Close my eyes" if I think about it. That song is a pure poem and I also think it's one of her most personal songs. I love the lyrics since I heard Daydream on cassette back then. I remember that because of this song I wanted to understand all her lyrics. So in 95/96 I had a big dictionary and I tried to translate the song. And I knew Mariah is so special, simply the best not only because of her voice, her look but because of her songwriting. That's my favorite part until today:
Don't say she takes it all for granted I'm well aware of all I have Don't think that I am disenchanted Please understand It seems as though I've always been Somebody outside looking in Well here I am for all of them to bleed But they can't take my heart from me And they can't bring me to my knees They'll never know the real me

I also like "For the record" because of this reason. But my all time favorite is:
Nearing the edge Oblivious I almost Fell right over A part of me Will never be quite able To feel stable That woman-child falling inside Was on the verge of fading Thankfully I woke up in time
Guardian angel I Sail away on an ocean With you by my side Orange clouds roll by They burn into your image And you're still alive
But I closed my eyes Steadied my feet on the ground Raise my head to the sky And though time rolls by Still feel like a child As I look at the moon Maybe I grew up a little too soon
The part with the guardian angel could be a song for itself. So poetic. I love it so much. And I miss those kind of lyrics. The lyrics on the Butterfly album are truly everything.

Yes "Long Ago" is an underrated gem. I still love it and listen a lot to it too. The way she sings it, so special and so Mariah. "Cause tonight I'm crumbling down Sinking in the memories Shadows of you keep washing over me" That part is so great.

All I can say is just no. I feared that something like that would happen because of her once beloved "empower clan". It's very embarrassing for her and it's a shame that it happens now while her image is still in repair. With all the praise the last months, the press will destroy it a lot with the pics. It's really sad for Mariah and it's indeed embarrassing for her fans too.

I did go to the Charmbracelet tour too and it was overwhelming. Her voice was just stunning. It was my first concert and I had some doubts that the voice wouldn't be that brilliant live. But it was even better than on cd at that time. When she sang "Bringin on the heartbreak" the audience were freaking out. Mariah Carey at her best. The other songs from Charmbracelet were also even better live. And the band intro was so cool and classy diva. Best concert experience in my life. And one of the best nights until now.

So true Marissa. I completely agree with "If someone treats everyone around them like trash, you will be next. When people show you who they are, believe them. Don't think that you're so special that you'll be exempt." A grown-up should have known that even with little knowledge of human nature.

I'm so tired to hear something of those fake/trash people. It's the only thing I feel a bit ashamed of as a long-time fan of Mariah that she allowed them to be part of her inner circle. We all make mistakes, but Mariah must have been blind that she couldn't see what will happen. I mean if you surround yourself with fame and money-hungry snakes.

Great "memoirs" from Curaçao. Wow how fantastic it must be to hear Mariah singing while you're on this beautiful island. I love to watch travel documentaries and an episode about Curaçao really got me dreaming. Anyway I hope you get a chance to see Mariah again. I wish all the lambs a nice weekend.

Documentary about the vocal trinity (89,798)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|
|
Yesterday there was a doc about the vocal trinity (Whitney, Mariah and Celine). Believe it or not but Mariah got most praised. It was on the French/German channel Arte, where they showed the snippets of Vanishing and Vision If Love live. There was also a classical singer who talked about the techniques of the three best singers. It was very interesting. Mariah really did give her all since 90 and I'm so happy that she seems to take care more of herself lately. They showed little footage and interviews from 90 until now and my thought was I love her so much, you have to. I wish all lambs a fantastic time who are attending her show today and on Sunday. I read Paris is sold out.
