Re: Ease for new generation / 14th number 1 (59,938) (59,944)

You are correct. It is easier to nab a number 1 spot because the charting system has changed. Streams count for 25% of chart position in the US. I believed it changed right around the time Miley released that Wrecking Ball video. Rihanna was smart and waited until her latest song peaked on the charts (number 5) and then released the video. Her video was released today so with all the streams it will push her to number 1. They claim that Mariah got a bunch of number ones because of price cuts, but it's just strategic, timely marketing and roll out.

She did get relaxed after TMB but the single choice isn't hers, it's the labels. That's part of the reason why she hasn't had another number one. Yes, I definitely agree the videos need to stop being so bad. Invest in a director that is going to have you play out a story, with some prompts, something big like the Honey video (it's really her best one). Although I don't agree that her rental a rapper formula as you call it is what is preventing her from getting another number 1. Can you image if Mariah came out with a song with Drake on the record and if it was really good, it would blow up. If she would have promoted YDKWTD with Wale it could have gone number 1. I like him on the song as I think he adds something to it but I don't like him in the intro, that should just be her. Here is a version without him.

Re: Top 3 favorite rap collabos (59,879) (59,882)

I love this. Her rap collabos get bashed a lot but she has some good ones. Some I prefer over the originals while others I love for being just as good with a different composition. 1. Thank God I Found You/Make It Last-Feat Nas - The original was nice, but not noteworthy. This was around the time Mariah was making ballads that leaned more towards pop and less soul. When I heard this remix play for the first time on the hiphop/r&b station, I freaked out because it really captured Mariah's musical essence at the time. Her voice sounds so good on this track, the way she kept transitioning in vocal styles throughout the song. One of the best gems in her discography. 2. I Know What You Want - This song made her hot again in the States. Her and Busta singing back and forth. She looked great in the video and the look was unique (no gowns lol). Every girl in the club at the time used to sing the bridge along with her when this song came on. It hit #3 on the Hot 100. 3. I Still Believe/Pure Imagination featuring Da Brat and Krazie Bone - This remix takes you to a cloudy, heady, dreamworld. The backgrounds, Lazy Bone's harmonies, Da Brat's diss to Derek and Motolla (even if my label drops me, I'ma still sell copies). This was Mariah's creative peak in regards to remixes. They really are two different songs.

Ok Mariah, even with the dry heat that is death to the vocal chords you continue to improve. I like how now she is taking a crack at singing her BET Blueprint Performance in 2015 where she growls the "so faithfully".

You've proved my point about being a troll. You try to twist my words around. I was referring to the first chorus of My All that you are always crying about, not her lipping in general, but you knew that already. You and anyone else would be lucky to get Vegas vocals if she was singing the way she did on Valentine's day. But of course nothing is impressive to you. That's your platform. Im sure you probably could hit those notes, but do you sound any good lol? I wouldn't care to watch your video if you paid me. I have an idea for you, how about you and our friend sell your tickets, meet up at that bar you work at, and complain all you want about her. No one wants negative after negative post, I feel sorry for anyone who lives everyday talking about the negative, sounds like a sad existence. Can't say I live in Dreamville, but I certainly don't live in the Negative Zone.

You're back. I was wondering where you had went. Yes, last night's performances were the best vocally so far this go round. Her vocals were really good the first night which is a rarity whenever she starts a tour/performances. She regressed on the 2nd and 3rd night, recovered on the 4th, and did a nice job last night. She seems to be hitting that E5 in IBT so easily now. She really wowed me with TGIFU. She went for the same notes on the first night but didn't really hit the mark. This time she really nailed it. Here are some mostly live highlights I found.

Re: That pure pop rush (59,766) (59,769)
by 123 from USA

Yes I agree. The last time she made her signature uptempo pop song was with Loverboy and even that had a different feel to it because of the baseline. She used to get criticized at the time for having a "formula" that she kept repeating. I think enough time has past where if she were to attempt it again like she did on Beautiful, people will gravitate to it. Something for the summer. She can always make a hip/hop/r&b remix with resung vocals. I miss those days. It was like getting two new songs.

You just had to reply to one of my posts. You know I usually try to ignore your existence since you just love to troll around here. You disguise your disses as "critiques" and bash her to no end. The jig is up. We all know you come here to troll. You never give this chick props, for anything, so stop pretending because I'm not buying it anymore. Who cares about the first chorus being lipped, especially if its because she needs to catch her breath for the second verse where she likes to vocally indulge. Ball gowns are her thing and it's Vegas, not a tour stop. You really want her to put on a pants suit a la Celine and look like a preacher's wife on stage? How boring. If anything she could just pull out the number she wore on the Vibe cover during the Daydream era. There was no chaise in My All or did you not notice. She only does the intro and outro on the jet ski during Honey. She needs props instead of just standing there. Vibrato? On what notes? She only held, like the last two and there was no sign of strain, struggle and her tone was clear. I thought the blend of Hero/Never Too Far was horrible. Both of those songs are meant to be sung on their own. Give me a full song. You want her to be Celine (white) so bad when she's been lipping since the early 90s. Everyone says Mariah's the queen of pre-records but Celine has her beat as she lips so much better than Mariah. You say for her to be honest and sing live, she sings TGIFU live and you say it isn't impressive. You critique her on her weight, she loses it and now you hate the gowns? I don't get how Isaac gets banned, Illuminati boy gets banned (I would rather see a million of his posts than one of yours), but you insult Mariah and others on the board everyday and you get to stay. It's usually just you and Martyn up posting your hate mail but I guess you've gained the fan base you've always wanted.

Thanks MiTodoChop. I loved the improvisations as well and wished she did more of it. I think if she continues to care for her voice and stays in good voice we may see her become more daring vocally and go for different notes. I"m not surprised she doesn't nor am I surprised that the trolls who would use it to pick her and the performance apart. It's sad really that it's become acceptable to tolerate it. I don't care what anyone says, she looked great and sounded great in this performance. I give credit to hard work when it's due.

Happy BDay. I love Whitney. I was on a Whitney music binge the day she died and as IWALY was playing, something told me to turn on the TV. The rest sadly is history. I remember Mariah wanting to make 2/11 lamb day that year. How ominous.

Hello Victor. I believe it's Beyonce as well. Just because they seemed so close at one point and then a big distance. The way Mariah described the album concept and pics were similar to the Beyonce album. I don't think it's Taylor, how would she have access to Mariah's intellectual property? I would love her to just drop her demo tape or rare recordings from that era. I wonder how she would promote that, if at all or if she would just give it to the fans. I'm also interested to see if she does anything with the songs that didn't make the last record and put them on a new album. Is that why she seems so relaxed because most of it is done and we just don't know it?

I really liked this performance on opening night. The live vocals are on point and I like how she has continually change the way she sings the song, it gives the song new life. I love when she improvises. She looks really good and seems relaxed on stage again. I love how she seems to just glide off the stage singing in that breathy tone like this rare mythical being who just cast a spell on the audience.

They were really good friends during the E=MC2 era. They were both married. Nick said that "Mariah and Beyonce text all the time". Then when Mariah was on 106 and Park to promote IBLYLT she said that Beyonce had gifted her the pinky ring she was wearing. Then of course they spent New Years together with L.A. Reid and his wife. After that it seems things might have changed. I still think she is the artist Mariah spoke of in that article who took her last album concepts.

Wendy Williams / Dr Phil (59,699)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
I have a whole new love for Dr. Phil. As you know, Wendy takes every moment she can get to criticise Mariah, which seems like every episode. So she brings up Mariah's parenting skills to Dr Phil to jab at her again, after she told L.A. Reid the day before "I love Mariah too" and he reminded her that Mariah mentioned her on her last number 1. When she brings up the engagement after 8 months, saying it's too soon, Dr Phil says long engagements don't tend to last. Then she goes on the criticize her for not telling her 4 year old twins yet, Dr. Phil said that 4 years olds don't have a concept yet of what's going on. You tried to get a doctor to co-sign with you Wendy but it didn't work, lol. She says the lambs are wrong about saying that she's hating or jealous of Mariah but we know she wants to be her.

You know I didn't really care for the song, but I liked the video. What I Ioved even better is the whole roll out. You heard murmurs here and there but nothing confirmed and she stayed silent. Then out of nowhere the song and video are out at the same time out of nowhere. Then the next day she performs the song on the Superbowl halftime show in front of millions of people. Smart. Mariah needs a roll out like this on the next single, the song just needs to be hot.

Yes Mara, I agree, it was nice to see her tell her story. Did you see the 1700 dollar royalty check? I felt bad that she funded her tours with her own money and then took out loans. One thing about Mariah, is her tours are always simple. Say what you want about how simple Mariah's Elusive Tour appeared, Mariah was able to recoup more of the earnings for herself instead of having to pay to have a grand show because you're expected to. It would be nice for Mariah to be completely behind the scenes, guiding the story. I would love to see the story play out during the Butterly/Rainbow/Glitter era. I would to see her tell her side of the story regarding the sabotage and watch it all go down.
