Oh you are right. I was thinking of the botched release of Bye Bye lol.
The potential for Angel's Advocate release has definitely passed. I was merely pondering over the missed opportunities with that album and the could have beens in this age of collaborations and remixes. Yes, And remix is literally her 3rd most popular song right now says a lot. It makes me wonder how much she has on her vault that's from that era that actually exists, who really knows. Look at al the amount of songs on MB30th anniversary.

I think timelines get a little mixed up around this period. Mariah had a miscarriage in the fall of 2008. Heartbroken she was encouraged to go back into the studio and create an album, which ended up becoming Memoirs. So by the time the album came out in the fall of 2009, she was on the promotional road for the album. But unfortunately she talked more about her small cameo in the movie Precious, then she did about her new album. The album didn't meet expectations and had a huge budget that did not make the dollars back at the time so the other two versions were shelved, she got pregnant in 2010 and moved on to a Christmas release in the fall of '10. I think letting Angels Advocate go is something we need to do, as if it was good it would've already seen the light of day in some capacity. I've personally heard ten of the fourteen songs and I can undoubtedly say I like the original solo versions better.

If this entire album was released at that time, it would be her massive album streaming, if it was released as planned, which was literally just before Spotify exploded and all those names attached took off. A real missed opportunity, and those songs are most likely sitting in different vaults everywhere. But in fairness to Mariah though, it was a turbulent time for her, with her miscarriage and all.

This whole album was yet another missed opportunity. Obsessed was a huge hit. Memoirs remains one of my favorite albums and the Angels Advocate and Smoke Jumpers remix albums were just tossed aside like yesterday's garbage. What a damn shame. I'm still hoping we get official releases at least in streaming. There was music for everyone between all 3 albums. Justice for Memoirs.

There's also tracks already done that didn't get released from Timbaland, Westlife, Swizz Beatz, Jamie Fox, and others that's not on your list. Heck, Angels Cry ft Neyo is still not on any streaming service, but is one of her most popular YouTube videos.

Surpassing Music Box. Isn't that incredible? Time really is the true test of everything. Mariah has always referred to Music Box whenever she's talking about a time to massive success and sales peaks, but never about Daydream.
Listening to whole Daydream album, it really sounds so fresh and it flows perfectly from one song to another. Fantasy alone is one of the most perfect pop songs ever made. It's so timeless.

Controversial (105,808)
by jaker20 from US

Her vocals have very little, if any, bearing to her career trajectory now. The public isn't checking her for the vocals in 2024. No current artist is successful for their great vocals. The last one is probably Adele, who by the way has been having so many vocal issues. Obsessed, Touch My Body, that's her most popular songs right now. And maybe that's part of AIWFCIY's longevity because of its playfulness, not necessarily the vocals.
I think she was on to something with Caution. Remember, Mariah said she didn't like her vocals in it. But that album received some of the best reviews of her career. But I think the timing was wrong. If that album was released now, it would be a bigger hit.
Because the Mariah post 2019, after AIWFCIY first hit no.1, is more popular and beloved than the 2010s Mariah. Unlike most of her contemporaries, everyone even the kids and teens actually know her now. What's lacking is a quick follow-up to sustain that Christmas buzz. It's the era of collabs, and I think she's experimenting on that with the Ariana and the rumored Cardi B collab, if that is true.

Ok the question that I'm about to ask isn't ment to cause negativity or shade. Since we have been talking about Mariah's career tragetory and eras the last few weeks, I started to ask myself this question, and I'm curious to hear everyone's opinion. If Mariah's voice did not deteriorate (she can still sing by the way), do you think her career tragetory would have been different (from where we are currently at now), or do you think it was inevitable that she would be put in "legacy" status, due to her age, and ageism in the industry?

Cardi B (105,792)
by jaker20 from US
| |
|
|
Cardi B and Ari are still within the same broader range of Mariah's category. Besides in this day and age, artists dabble into everything that categories really don't mean all that much anymore. Country artists doing rap, Beyonce doing country, Billy Eillish does what she wants. Its all kind of mixed up now. I think music categories isn't as clear cut as it used to be.
Let me add, Mariah herself has incorporated all these genres into her albums and played with jazzy influences like Portrait and Subtle Invitation, then Mariah's had a couple of gospel influenced songs throughout her albums. And of course Mariah's had a huge influence in bringing hip-hop to the mainstream. So its not a huge jump for Mariah to do these.
She doesn't necessarily need to pick one of these lanes, since she's already doing all of them. What we want is more of them. Or rather, we want, well anything, since she's not releasing much at all.

This is why I'm so confused about the lambily. Some of the same people who didn't want her collaborating with Ari and now wanting a Cardi B song. Mariah must be so confused as to who actually is her fanbase and how to sell to them. Personally, I want to hear it all but maybe she should pick a lane and stick to it. If she does go the contemporary route hopefully it will be the last time and then she'll just fully make more mature music like jazz and gospel in her 60's.

Mariah's just lacking a good collaborator (105,774)

Someone that she has chemistry with. Like Beyonce has JayZ who is essentially Beyonce's co-producer and is a full-time music artist and is in the studio full time. Or Taylor's parents, who are her money partners (I'm not insulting her, but let's face it, they're good with money and promoting her).
Mariah is on her own. In fact, her best career inspirations are the twins, who are probably behind her social media ideas. But she's not surrounded by musical nor business partners. She can't do it alone, especially a musical empire as big as hers.

Rumor has it Mariah has some sort of release planned before her Vegas residency, if it's a "buzz single" I don't want it haha. All her "buzz singles" are dropped and forgotten within days. I would rather a proper era. Yes it won't be close to the TEOM era but with the right team and planning I hope we get a decent one.

Ugh I wrote a post and then forgot to hit submit and it's now erased (if I did submit and this is a repeat my apologies) but yes that video was so random why was she on a beach crying and looking sexy? HATEU also isn't a song that you can really sing along too. LA was too stuck in his "upbeat" followed by "ballad" formula that worked for TEOM. But why not switch it up and do back to back up beats? I can't believe in a party record like E=MC2 he released "Bye Bye". After "Obsessed" a MTJF single with a few brand affiliations (since she name drops a lot of brands) shot in Italy would have been dope. Even if he wanted a slow song he could have gone with a BGK with a dark moody video. Instead we have Mariah crying on a beach.

MC remix album (105,753)

She also had lot of remixes shelved on the MOAIA, the only one that survived was the Ne-Yo and Nicky Minaj, both of which turned out to be more popular than the originals and two that went to MIAMTEC. I agree about the #Beautiful remixes, I think there's about 3 out there and they all bops. I think this is where a good management comes in, Mariah can't broker these deals to put into an album nor create new ones obviously.

Final Billboard placement for YAR (105,752)
by jaker20 from US
| |
|

We don't really know that 49% means that's also the portion of the remix compared to the original. That's just the overall increase of the total.
I would personally guess that the remix is already way above 50% of the total, if we consider that the remix has been stable on Spotify and way ahead of the OG on iTunes, and that the fact that the original has been freefalling in the past weeks before the remix was released. Like you said before, it's up to Billboard.
This is another situation where Mariah boosted a song, like BER, but didn't get credit. Do we want a top 10 credit? Sure. But all things considered, this is absolutely great news, not bad.
I don't remember the last time a song went back up to the top 10 after it's nearly out of the top 40 because of a remix. Without the remix the OG would have completely dropped out already.

I'm gutted. It did even better than I thought and still missed the top 10 by one spot. It increased 49% from the previous week. One percentage point away from a Mariah credit. Didn't you wonder why her Instagram story she uploaded a short clip of her singing the song in the middle of the week? She badly wanted to get into the top 10 again. She missed it by one spot. I know the lambs and Ari fans contributed to the raise out of curiosity. But I also know after the initial buzz the fans really let them down. Had everyone kept up the momentum for a whole week, MC would be celebrating a new top ten hit in the thirty fourth year of her career. So close.

You're framing it in a negative way, while I see it in a positive way. Slow down on being so negative. And also, the right word is "rebound", not jump up. Very different word connotation.
The song would have been out of the top 40, it was on its way down. Not a lot of songs have that kind of chart trajectory. And that is credit to Mariah's name.

This is all lambs' work. The song was already freefalling until Mariah stepped in. It was assured to leave the top 40 this week, and Ariana's album won't come out until after another 2 weeks. That would have been an absolute disaster for her. This proves again that Mariah still have a huge pull in the charts.
Mariah now and Mariah pre-2019, which was before AIWFCIY went to number 1, have very different commercially appeal. Caution was released in 2018 just didn't catch her Christmas spark.
Mariah should capitalize on it every year and release every January, like something, anything. She's the only one who has an annual buzz but she's wasting it with remixes. That said, she did get 5 million new listerers in a week.

Ariana's team waited 4 weeks too late to release the remix. It seems like somebody on her team really didn't think the remix was good enough to release a week after the original and make a video. I hope MC is able to get her own high profile collaboration out this year. I would love a SZA and Summer Walker collaboration just like Whitney ft. Faith Evans and Kelly Price on Heartbreak Hotel. This is suppose to be a Mariah fan board, all I've seen is negative uncalled for opinions on Mariah and her voice, you guys think she's a robot? I recently saw a video of twitter spaces, some lamb had the balls to tell Mariah that every time she performs the lambs wonder if she will hit a g7 or how high she will go. Meanwhile this lamb works at Burger King but thinks he knows everything about her voice. I noticed this was her last time on twitter spaces. You guys are ruining this for her, y'all don't know anything about her voice or what's going on, have some respect for the woman who supposedly you say saved your life with her music. I really hope she doesn't release anything new. Why would she? Just for you guys to disect and judge her voice condition. I used to love this board, before all the lambs became vocal teachers.

I don't think she's going to be credited but iId like to be surprised lol. This is just a cute little remix like BER that she barely spent time on. It's the lambs that are hungry for new materials, to the point of embracing an AI version of a flop JT song.
I'm guessing it's going to be close. But it's going to be up to Billboard, they're not going to release the split of numbers.
I think Mariah should already be credited. The remix helped Ariana until her album is released, and the original would have dropped out of the top 30, most likely worse, and that would have been a disaster for her. There's so much is riding on Ariana on this release.
Either way, I just like that Mariah is collaborating with her and new artists. She should do this more often, regardless of chart results.

Sometimes it's not about what you want. Mariah isn't a puppet that you can control the strings to. If you don't understand what a Top 10 hit on Billboard would mean for Mariah then you really don't know Mariah. Because she's always chosen hits and charts above anything else. I believe deep down inside she's a real musician, a soul artist, but she's very much driven by success. It's the American way. If you want more Mariah you have to give her incentive. Stream and buy.

It didn't make the top 10 this week. The original is down to #21.

We don't know. It's going to be very very close. The remix should have more points than the original for her to get credit. Both versions together, it is at no.11 and went +49%. Assuming the original dropped like it did last week, then the remix portion of that should be more than 50% already, giving Mariah credit at this point already. There is no way the original went up after the remix is released, unless there is some shady stuff going on behind the scenes. The 3 new remixes released by Ariana's team complicates it slightly, but it's not doing any numbers currently.

Ok so I'm confused, if the OG reaches the top ten, does Mariah get credit or no? Some people say yes, some say no. I'm confused, how does this all work? How can a remix overtake an OG song?
