About Stacey from USA: Been a fan since 1993. Favorite albums include Daydream, TEOM, and Music Box. I love a good discussion, but won't stand for hateful comments because we disagree. I am too old to deal with drama and so are you. Keep it real with me and we'll have some fun. Peace.

Yep, so many take everything so literally here. It's quite funny to read.

It was performed on Good Morning America in 1991. I have a pretty good audio mp3 if you are interested.

Of course different opinions are welcomed. It's never failed to amaze me over the 15+ years I've posted online. Those who preach tolerance of all thought are the most intolerant of all. Peace.

Daydream 20th anniversary (57,000) by Stacey from USA
Boy, do I feel old. I was 18 when that album was released. I will be hitting 38 on Sunday, lol. It's still her best album, IMO. She was at her peak during that era. I know, I know, many will say Butterfly was her peak lyrically and vocally. However, songs like Fantasy set up a trend of hip-pop which drastically changed the music industry. We haven't seen another example of that kind of drastic change since. That album had something for everyone. Daydream will always be my #1 album.

Faded (56,892) by Stacey from USA
I love the song. It doesn't sound like WBT. If anything it sounds like DFAU. I can't help but sing "don't baby, dont baby don't let it go" when Faded plays.

The Intern premiere (56,846) by Stacey from USA
MC looked absolutely flawless. Just gorgeous. I've always hated how much cleavage she shows. This just proves you don't have to "give away the farm" to look sexy. Modest is hottest.

One more thing... (56,589) by Stacey from USA
Celine Dion is at the peak of her success in 2000, she takes a break. Comes back two years later with a new album and Vegas show, a risk at the time for Celine and Caesars Palace. She sold out every show. Fast forward years later she takes another break. Look how she was welcomed back: with open arms (no pun intended). If anything, Celine has showed more staying power by taking breaks and showing she is still relevant in many minds by all the support she gets when she does returns to the stage. I don't think consistency is the key here or at least doesn't apply to Celine Dion. She is still very much a successful and sought after artist. If she wasn't, Caesars would not have welcomed her back. By the way, her Vegas shows aren't solely relying on her back catalog. Her shows contain covers of a lot of songs. By the way, isn't that what MC does too? Sing her past hits? Peace.

Celine Dion is not passed her prime, Andrew (56,578) by Stacey from USA
Taking Chances (2007) has sold over 3.1 million copies worldwide since its release. Loved Me Back To Life (2003) has sold over 1.3 million copies (as of December 2013). Both albums were released with little to no promotion. Add to the fact she has had a spectacular run in Vegas since she started that in 2003. Celine Dion is as relevant today as Mariah. When she announced she was coming back to Vegas, it was all over the press. Anyways, I'm not writing this to start a back and forth MC vs. Celine. I love them both as amazing singers. Both are relevant. Both are in their prime not passed it. Andrew, I love your frankness. The honesty in your posts is quite refreshing. I enjoy reading them. However, my friend E=MC2 is not better than TEOM, lol. Though I do love IBYULT. That song had me at first listen.

Billy from Greece (55,293) by Stacey from USA
I totally agree. I love how she is revisiting her earliest hits with a new found appreciation even though her time at Sony was tough. I'm sure LTT and IDWC mean something more since her marriage fell apart.

Vocals, songwriting challenge (54,719) by Stacey from USA
My list changes all the time too. This challenge was hard for me too. But, I wanted to ask a question that caused us all to dig deeper and look at more obscure songs we don't think of often.

Vocals, songwriting (54,703) by Stacey from USA
If someone asked you your 5 most favorite tracks to show off Mariah's best vocals what would they be? If someone asked you to do the same with her songwriting, what would they be? Try not to include any "woe is me" Hero/CTTA or holiday tracks because those are way too obvious for both vocals and songwriting. Dig deeper. My picks for vocals are:
*You're So Cold (the intro), that intro leaves me speechless.
*Vanishing (SNL '90 performance)
*Emotions (Unplugged '92)
*Underneath the Stars
*Circles (that run at 2:44 gives me chills everytime)
I need to think about songs that show off her amazing songwriting skills. One off the top of my head would be The Roof. There is some phenomenal storytelling going on here. She writes in such a way that you can visualize the scene as it unfolds in the song. Looking In is another favorite. I don't think anyone had any idea how miserable MC was in her life. That song is the theme of my life. So powerful. Have fun.

Negativity vs. constructive criticism (54,701) by Stacey from USA
Some people need to understand the difference between these two terms. Negativity is someone coming here with the sole purpose of bashing Mariah with no credible opinions to back up any of their points. With Eric's rules, I doubt those kind of posts ever get posted. Constructive criticism is critiquing MC and providing credible opinions to back up your claims. I found nothing derogatory or offensive in Randy's posts about Mariah's voice. Mariah's voice isn't the same. I know things change over the years. How or why that has happened is up for discussion. Last time I checked this was a messageboard. You know a place for talking, lol. I wonder if under Sony's control, part of that control was preserving Mariah's voice. It seems her voice started losing its richness after 1997 when MC split from Tommy. Just a thought I'm throwing out there. Anyways, don't be so quick to rush to judgement someone is being negative. Thoughtfully read their posts to better understand where they are coming from. If you still find a problem with it, ignore it and move onto something else. Peace.

MC's style in Paris, opinions (54,545) by Stacey from USA
MC style in Paris has been amazing. It just proves she doesn't have to let the "girls" hang out all the time to look sexy. That blue dress was just gorgeous. I honestly would love some more looks of her covering up. I know, there will always be some who say dress the way you want. But, it's always bugged me how her style choices tend to overshadow the amazing talent she possesses. Anyways, whoever is helping her pick her clothes, hire that person like full now time, lol. Let me just say this: namecalling of any nature has no place here. So just stop it. Last time I checked you could only find goats on a farm not a messageboard. Peace.

Promotion (53,729) by Stacey from USA
I thought Mariah had a good week. Her performances got better and better. She did well to mix her live and pre-recorded vocals to the point that the "average Joe" couldn't tell the difference. More importantly than her singing was her interviews. I know I've said this before, but it bears repeating. It doesn't take much to get the general public/media off on MC and how silly she can be sometimes, rambling off in tangents, etc. During both appearances on Kimmel and Live she was candid, funny, articulate, answering the questions she was asked, not rambling off on some irrelevant subject. I'm also glad she didn't get asked about the divorce, etc. Maybe at a future time when the dust has settled, she can talk about it. My only gripe about the promo week was where is the freakin' video? Honestly, during the week it should have been announced the video would debut lets' say on Friday. She could talk about it with each appearance building anticipation, thus driving up downloads when it hits. *sigh* C'mon Sony, get it together. Anywho, it was a good week for MC.

BBMA, Kimmel (53,553) by Stacey from USA
MC did ok at the BBMA awards. I honestly think she held back on VOL to save her voice for that night's Vegas show. The transition into Infinity was awkward with the music starting before MC was done with VOL. However, I thought MC recovered nicely by singing the final VOL note in the same key as Infinity. Her going back and forth between live and pre-recorded vocals was nice. You could hardly tell. MC always seems a bit nervous at awards shows. On Kimmel though, she was much more relaxed and let her personality show a bit more talking to the audience and such. More importantly than her performance on Kimmel was her interview. The diva antics of the past few years were gone. She was funny, engaging, not loopy as we have seen in the past. These kind of interviews along with in print interviews she's done are just as important as a good performance. Seems like she has a good team in place.

Eternal / Vegas (53,194) by Stacey from USA
I agree. I was so excited to learn MC would be singing LTT and IDWC. IDWC has to be one of my favorite ballads. It is always running through my head. She really did a great job with a difficult song. I'm glad to see her taking it easy with the uptempo songs, letting the backing track, dancers, and props take more of the lead. That way she can conserve more of her voice for the ballads which tend to rely on her voice to take the lead. I'm glad to see Vegas is being kind to Mariah. MC has surrounded herself with good professionals who know how to market this gem of a voice. Seems like everything with the show is polished and can only get better from this point. MC needed this. If all goes well, the Vegas residency will really set her up for that next album to blow us all out of the park, lol.

Say it aint so? / Marissa (52,754) by Stacey from USA
First Stephen, now you Edward? Noooooo. Us level-headed fans have to stick together. Don't stay away to long. Marissa, your post (52,749) is one of the most well written posts of what I've also tried to explain for years. Maybe i'ts an age thing being 37. I just don't get bothered if someone disagrees with me. I don't take it personally if someone loves a song I can't stand. I don't call them out with a post. I don't get bothered when a faceless person says crap to me. It ain't that deep. Anyways, always enjoy your posts. Some will never "get it".

Skip (52,566) by Stacey from USA
Love the edit. I honestly think it flows better, especially at the beginning. Many songs start out with the chorus then head into the first verse. To me those extra lyrics st the beginning seemed out of place. Can you send me an mp3. I have hundreds of MC mp3s if you want to trade. daydreamer.butterfly@gmail.com. Thanks.

Licia / Infinity (52,495) by Stacey from USA
I know you do. I realized after I posted my response I pretty much repeated myself again. Sorry. I didn't get my expectations up for this song and so when it dropped, I wasn't that disappointed.

Licia (52,446) by Stacey from USA
I wasn't trying to generalize everyone wanted a #1 song. I like many of her songs better than those that did hit #1. Anyways, there is something missing from Infinity for me too. However, before the song came out, I wasn't expecting a powerhouse hit. I don't think that was the purpose of Infinity or I Stiill Believe for that matter. And it's why I didn't feel this let down upon hearing the song. I bought up ISB because both songs were used as a way to promote the new compilation album. Mariah is going to save her powerhouse hit songs for a full commercial album release. Once Mariah got in a place of personal momentum forward, we were blessed with a amazing album (Rainbow after #1s, TEOM after CB, and ??? after #1 To Infinity). I wasn't trying to generalize every fan was expecting a #1 hit. That wasn't why I wanted to respond. I wanted to maybe bridge the gap of expectations so to speak and maybe remind folks MC is always going to save her best stuff for a full album release. Plus, this song was more about her moving on from Nick. I'll take it an enjoy it as much as I can. And if not, I have so many other MC songs, remixes, galore to listen to, lol.

Cgee54 (52,407) by Stacey from USA
You summed up my long post in just a few sentences. Well put. I agree CB was pure damage control, a forum to give MC an opportunity to go on all the shows and share her side of the breakdown/Glitter debacle. It allowed MC to show she was back and ready to shine again. TTR was never meant to rocket up the charts. It was more of a therapy for MC. Then we got TEOM. Oh my, I love that album. I see the same thing happening here. Different circumstances of course, but she is still coming off a personal setback. What better way to reenter the public eye than by celebrating her 18 #1s. I hope she does well in Vegas which will hopefully set her up for the true comeback with the next studio album.

Infinity (52,405) by Stacey from USA
I think those who don't like the song need to take a step back. Remember the first #1s album? MC recorded I Still Believe as a new single to promote the album. That song while nice, remixes are even better, wasn't meant to rocket her back to #1. I don't think it was that kind of song. It was a tribute to BKS. The same goes with Infinity. I think everyone hyped themselves up so much that upon first listen, they were let down when it wasn't that WBT/SIO powerhouse song (which I think is an unfair comparison). It's a song to promote the new #1s collection/Vegas residency. It's a song to help MC move forward. I think she did her best to write a song to please radio, but more for herself. I'm hopeful that when the time comes for a new album of songs, MC will create those radio friendly, powerhouse singles. For now, though, it's all about reminding folks about her accomplishments. Similar to ISB, Infinity is meant to get her back on track, not rocker her up to #1.
