About 123 from USA:

Re: What does Adele's success mean for Mariah? (58,760) (58,768) by 123 from USA
Randy, I guess I didn't and still don't completely understand your question. You may not consider it soul music, but Adele does make black music. There isn't anything wrong with it, it's just what it is. If anything were to come of her success it would be similar artists will be released and promoted by labels in the future in hopes one will hit. Adele was a response to Amy Winehouse. Amy was the first big blue eye soul from the UK that obtained success and there several acts like Adele followed. After Amy's death, Adele was able to take the lead and reign in the success. Execs just mimic what's selling at the moment. Whose CD was dead? Every CD Mariah released for Def Jam had strong single choices that could have done really well. It was never her material that lacked on Def Jam. E=MC2 had wrong single choices, Memoirs (which I loved), and especially MIAM. Mariah also did very little promotion for each CD. Three things must be present for a successful project, great quality material, the right single choices, and promotion. So even if she came out with a project that was "fresh and new", it will suffer the same fate without any of the three things I mentioned.

Re: What does Adele's success mean for Mariah? (58,747) (58,759) by 123 from USA
Hello Randy. I am trying to understand your question as it's a little vague. What do you mean by what does it mean for the industry or Mariah? For me, it's an obvious sign to the industry that white artists have successfully taken over the charts using what is traditionally known as black music here in the States. Just look at this week's top ten and you will see what I mean. R&B is dead and unless you are a "of the moment" rapper, as a black artist, your music will not hit the top ten. You can't compare Adele to Mariah anyway. Adele is a white artist, making soul music, from the UK. Mariah came out 25 years ago making ballads, so she has already been there done that. She even wore a little black dress for the first two albums of her career like Adele did. Mariah has always implemented current day trends into some of her songs but eventually puts her own spin on it without anyone batting an eye. Do you believe that an album full of Mariah ballads would sell? Remember that Mariah's initial submission of MIAM during the Beautiful era release was ballad heavy and the label didn't like it and after the injury, she was inspired to change out three songs for Dedicated, Money, and Camouflage. They are both under Sony, but Adele is with the roster heavy Columbia and Mariah is with Epic-smart move. Other than MJ, Mariah is the biggest act on Epic. On Columbia, you have Adele, Beyonce, Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion etc. What I do believe is Mariah wanted to be on a label that would make her priority. They did let her put "Infinity" on the last album so I wouldn't be surprised if she finally got artistic freedom. As for the sound of her next album, I have to write separate post on that.

Re: AIWFCIY #11 on Billboard Hot 100 (58,738) (58,742) by 123 from USA
This is awesome. Would have loved top ten but I'll take it. We must not complain about what she could have done to get a higher position. She did a good job promoting it with good performances and plenty of new projects attached to it. You never know what she might have in store for it next year. Hopefully, this will give her some confidence to create more great quality songs as there is still an interest in her music.

Snippet: Mariah Carey/Michael Bolton live duet (58,663) by 123 from USA
In case someone hasn't posted it yet. Here is a snippet of their duet: "We're Not Making Love Anymore". It was probably buried since her label wanted her image to be demure and innocent back then. That note caught me off guard.

Mariah Carey's year of triumph the 2015 documentary (58,662) by 123 from USA
This was a nice video I ran across on FB that chronicles her year. She is almost a different person by the end of the year. I'm happy to see her fight and come back on top. She seems to be in a really great space.

Re: AIWFCIY #18 on Billboard Hot 100 (58,615) (58,625) by 123 from USA
This is so awesome. But I doubt it will go any higher. Christmas songs drop the week before Christmas. It's still an incredible milestone for her. Add "AIWFCIY" to her list of top 20 hits. Did she set a record for longest time between debut of a song and the years it took before it actually hit top 20? Someone needs to ask Billboard so she can add it to the stock of records/accomplishments. So now she has had two top twenty hits during this decade. Say what you want about her new music not charting well lately, but you're still buying her 1994 Christmas music.

Re: Mariah Christmas (58,594) (58,624) by 123 from USA
Granted, her performance lacked. The movie is a wash. It's not like she wrote the script. When the script is uninteresting, a seasoned actor (Lacey) can still make it sound natural/believable. An interesting script will stick out like a sore thumb when a novice actor performs the lines. The performance (or lack there of) in the movie will go unnoticed. It's on Hallmark. An obscure cable station. If it was on one of the 4 major networks, the general public would have picked up on it. Every time that movie is played, Mariah is going to receive royalties for the songs she wrote. Mariah needed to get her foot in the door before it closed. There will be no nail in any coffins or massive fall outs. The Merriest Christmas special was dubbed as any pre-taped performance for tv would be. Even the precious 95 MSG/Japan performances many people hang on to were dubbed. The dub for the Christmas Melody was excellent. Kudos for Mariah having management on her team with a television background. No one but the actual people that attended the taping would know if she "lipped" or not. Regardless of that, the special was excellent and was an excellent recovery from last year's debacle.

Mariah Carey - Live Beacon Theater 2015 final day (58,571) by 123 from USA
She finally went for her famous F5 note, even if it was just for a second. Love the nostalgic St John the divine flashback she did after JTTW. It seems like she goes for it the most on her final show.

Christmas special (58,570) by 123 from USA
She really brought it. The vocals were great. She carefully selected songs to perform that weren't so taxing on the voice with impossible notes. I loved that she threw in God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. She did a great rendition of the song. The duet with Babyface for Christmas Time Is In The Air Again was also a highlight. I was secretly hoping for Miss You Most but I'll settle for the rare God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. Everything was perfect about this special. I hope it becomes an annual show for her and she adds rare Christmas songs she wrote into the fold. Jesus Is Born On Christmas Day, One Child, and Miss You Most.

Best live vocals of the 7th Beacon show (58,549) by 123 from USA
I love this. Her voice is sounding very resonant. She's showing out a little even by holding on to those belts a little longer. This even includes the full clip of "Christmas In New York".

Mariah Carey dedicated demo (58,535) by 123 from USA
Does anyone know if this is legit? It sounds so hot and I love the new vocals. I wish this version was on the album. I need the full version released. It's very hypnotizing.

Re: Survey question for the lambs (58,482) (58,511) by 123 from USA
That's brilliant. I've always wanted her to perform that song. She was scheduled to perform it on MTV's 20th anniversary special. I wouldn't mind her re-creating the video of the riding on the low rider when performing it live.

Re: Survey question for the lambs (58,469) (58,477) by 123 from USA
I like your suggestion. Fly Like A Bird really is one of her best songs. The song really is like a spiritual experience. My pick would be trading in Honey - although I love - with a moodier uptempo like The Roof. If would flow in her concert, singing it back to back with My All. Which leads me to my next question. Which one of Mariah's hits that she performs would you like for her to completely revamp the melody and vocals? I love what she did with TGIFU. I always preferred the classic remix but the Vegas revamp made me appreciate the song and love that version.

Are you going to see Mariah when she comes to the Netherlands? Have you seen her live before? [Webmaster: I've seen her in concert in Antwerp 2000 and Rotterdam 2003 and I met her in person in Amsterdam 1999.]

I always wondered what happened to this site. It was very informative. I always wondered if Gilles from Malta that posts here is the same Gilles that owns the sign and made the posts.

All I Want For Christmas - Beacon Theater 2014 (58,343) by 123 from USA
This was Mariah's performance of AIWFCIY on the final day of her 2014 run at the Beacon Theater. This has got to be the best performance of the song in years. I love how she keeps singing even after the song is over and goes for the belts instead of giving you a whispery vocal and making up lyrics and improvising. "What More Can I Say", "Feliz Navidad". She is already sounding better on her first night this year versus 2014. Can't wait to hear how she sounds on the final show of her 2015 run.

Re: New Mariah Carey TV special to follow "ACM" (58,285) (58,293) by 123 from USA
This news really does make me happy. I was hoping she would find somewhere to do a Christmas special to redeem herself and stick it to the technicians that leaked her vocals. I can't believe she is singing with Babyface. One could hope that after the performance they would immediately work on a song together. I hope that this is the beginning of a partnership with Hallmark to play her projects whether it be music, movies, or otherwise.

I really hope it happens for her this time. I was hoping for a top 20 last year and she just missed it. Would it be great if she made it this year.

Why are we still talking about a 20 second vocal as a featured artist from over the weekend when we have this to talk about.

Re: Vegas tickets (58,247) (58,267) by 123 from USA
A lot of people buy tickets the day of. It was like that when I went to Vegas over the Summer. I went the day of the concert a couple of hours before the show to buy tickets. I begged the lady for the best seats possible and advised how big of a fan I was. After the attendant worked her magic, she got me really good tickets. When I returned for the show, the line to buy tickets was long and the line to get into the venue was even longer. People buy the tickets the day of. When I went into the venue, every seat was filled. They even had attendants that walked everyone to their seat and when a guy tried to sneak and take the seat next to me, an attendant brought the person who actually paid for the seat and walked the guy to their actual seat. I wouldn't worry. If they didn't think she would fill the seats, they would have never gave her a third run in February.

Rockefeller Tree Lighting (58,125) by 123 from USA
So that's the reason Mariah isn't performing at Rockefeller Center Three Lighting. She is holding a grudge about the public embarrassment of the leaked live feed. I would hope that she find another network and give a great vocal of the song during the same month.

Re: Mariah's projects (58,118) (58,121) by 123 from USA
In regards to the Hallmark project, I do agree like there might already be some missteps. It would be more believable if the role Lacey plays was given to an actress around Mariah's age. Maybe when they went to school together Mariah was a Senior and Lacey was the Freshman she tormented. I like the idea of Mariah playing a mean girl. She needs roles that are opposite of her image and perceived personality. When it comes to film, Mariah should not be in control at all as we see her insecurities have stifled the creativity of videos she's been involved in for the sake of vanity. I winced when I saw that a soft lens was used for her shots when everyone else was shot with a regular lens. It reminded me of Ru Paul's Drag Race. Whenever the camera shot to Ru, a soft lens was used. It had more of a comedic versus flattering effect. She needs to just play a supporting role that is a part of an ensemble cast. I do have to disagree about Mariah not having any talent as an actress to play anyone but herself. Her best role is in Wise Girls. She had a supportive role and stole all the shine away from Mira Sorvino an award winning actress. I still love the line, "This one is nice, but you look like a dyke in the rest of them."

Can't Say No (58,101) by 123 from USA
I see someone is desperate for attention again. Fine, I will call on you this one time. Trey was interviewed stating that Saint Tommy pulled the single from the shelves to drive up album sales as the song was peaking which caused it to stall at number 2. Mariah has also stated that she was upset that the high notes were removed from the radio edit because the label thought they "were too much for radio". So the inaccurate one is you, as Tommy also hindered her career and even sabotaged it temporarily once she left him. She did as much for Tommy as he did for her. She brought the insane talent, voice, and songwriting. He needed a big star to help launch his career and she was his meal ticket. Unlike Whitney and Celine, she created the music and the songs that went number 1. So if Can't Say No does do well, stick it to him I say. Tommy and Nick shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence nor did I bring him up. R&B isn't really the problem, it's the quality of the material on her Epic releases that were the problem (Infinity/Why You Mad). Justin is still in the beginning of his career so he should be charting well and just like BSB, NSync, he will disappear once he ages or gets married. Class dismissed.
