About 123 from USA:

Can't Say No (58,064) by 123 from USA
I love this song. I'm so glad that Mariah is getting love from today's rappers and is not only getting sampled, but also asked to appear on the song as well. I love how she re-sang the vocals opting to sing the chorus with only her lead vocal instead of having the harmonized layered vocals like the original. It really shows the vulnerability in her voice and invokes even more emotion. I love the re-write as well. "Thoughts of you and I, still kill, me slow." This is the old Mariah I remember. Re-singing, re-writing, re-arranging. She could have just took the route she has been taking lately when "re-making/re-releasing" previous songs and leaving the original vocals like AIWFCIY, It's A Wrap, Betcha Gon Know etc. She finally lost the weight, I hope this becomes a single and they shot a video and do various performances. I hope she stuck it to Tommy by putting in the high notes at the end that he had removed from the original radio edit. This is my favorite ballad of hers and I'm glad it could get another shot at the charts. Its also a great way to introduce her classic material to a younger audience who are unfamiliar with the splendor of MC classics.

Re: Re: JD (57,101) (57,105) (57,111) by 123 from USA
Sorry Lee. I respectfully disagree. JD could have been a great manager had they not already had a 20 plus year friendship. Lambs nailed that man to a cross for what she was or better yet, was not doing regarding her last album. She wouldn't listen and did what she felt she wanted. It was horrible timing to have an album released while all this personal drama was happening in the background. Even if the label wasn't going to provide much support, she could have really promoted the hell out of it and provided good live performances. If you look back, she only performed twice during that era (BET You're Mine performance and Today Show with You Don't Know What To Do). I know lambs were flipping out with all the pushbacks but I wouldn't have minded another pushback in order for her to handle whatever was happening personally. JD is always spot on when it comes to Mariah and what she should be doing and lets face it, he was instrumental in her big comeback with having her go back to basics with great songs, great lyrics and big vocals a la Classic Mariah. Regardless of our tastes, the last three albums all had songs that could have been big but she paid them dust. The drive was gone to promote appropriately and her career suffered for it. I do hope that they continue to make music together, forget Walter's shady ass, especially with what he had to say about her publically when she was down during the Chanteuse Tour, reunite with JD.

Daydream (57,071) by 123 from USA
This is the first album that I bought on CD, ever. I was 14 going on 15. I was initially introduced to her by my cousin who owned her debut and used to play Love Takes Time over and over again. She had the tape and would always rewind and play the bridge. I remember the massive Music Box album. A week before Fantasy was debuted, I was wondering, whatever happened to Mariah Carey? A week later I heard Fantasy on the radio and got really excited. I loved that it started off with her famous whistle register and it had a harder edge that any of her previous up tempo singles. When the album came out, I had saved money to purchase it. I remember playing the album over and over on my boombox I got for my birthday everyday afterschool. I loved the uniqueness of UTS. There was a park with a stream hidden by trees that I would love to go to and I always thought it would have been the perfect place to shoot the video. Always Be My Baby was a different song for her which was straight up r&b. I was hoping it was a single. I always loved I Am Free, I always wanted to sing it at church. When I first fell in love around the same time the album came out, When I Saw You became my song. Open Arms was such an amazing cover that I was convinced she wrote it. I was obsessed with Melt Away and was conviced Babyface sang the first verse. I loved the old school doo wop feel of Forever and played the Daydream Interlude on repeat. I cried may times to Looking In when I was going through hard times. I was actually underwhelmed with Butterfly when it first came out and felt it just didn't match the greatness of Daydream. The only other album stacked with so many great songs that could be singles was MIAMTEC or maybe even E=MC2. This was the first time I read the liner notes and discovered she wrote all these great songs. She inspired me to become a songwriter. I wrote my first poem called When You Left. Daydream will always be her best work.

Re: If you could add anything to your Mariah (56,903) (56,926) by 123 from USA
Hi B. I feel bad because it seems like those in May got the short end of the stick. I think everyone was holding their breath about how well the show would do. Once they saw that she could draw in a crowd, she became the queen of Vegas during her July leg of her tour. From the grand arrival pink car she rode in sitting inside the airport to constant promotions of the show on the tv screens. There were trailers constantly riding through the streets promoting her show and the Ceasar's became Mariah central. They had tons of promotional posters, they were playing her songs over and over throughout the casino like Obsessed. The gift shop became a Mariah shrine with all of her Columbia releases up front and all over the shop on full display along with the 1 To Infinity album. There were butterly key chains, t-shirts, and they were even playing the Love Takes Time live 1993 performance. The gift shop girl was even singing along. I bought her tour book and it was like 40 bucks if memory serves me correctly.

Re: Really? (56,915) (56,923) by 123 from USA
She confirmed it when she did press for her concert in Israel by sayings he had came there with her boyfriend.

Re: Faded (56,904) (56,922) by 123 from USA
I agree. Faded is my favorite song on the album. From the lullabyish instrumental intro, to the simplistic four note melody allows her to use her voice to fill in the song wish lush background vocals and multiple harmonies, the slow vocal build until the end gives a new meaning to vocal crescendo. You really feel the emotion when she is belting, "Always somewhere but you're not there for me, not there for me, not there for me, yes." It should have come right after YDKWTD. It should have been #Beautiful, YDKWTD, and then Faded for the fall. It would have done well on the US charts.

Andrew the racist (56,752) by 123 from USA
It's crazy that you say that you wouldn't ask sycophantic questions when that is exactly what you do when you write your posts. You are the 8th grade kid that sits in the back of the class and hollers out ridiculous comments to get the whole class to chuckle in a desperate attempt for attention. You reply to Mimi L was condescending, but I'm sure you will get 20 likes because that is your ultimate gain. She called you out for making an off colored comment that you disguised as a joke. A joke is just a way to for you to say these disrespectful comments and then claim you are leaving the board when people call you out. I find this funny as you are quick to call people delusional. You then equate "ghetto" with poor quality in regards to Infinity. The song is just bad, period. Shake It Off and ILT used slang and they both charted well here in the States. Mariah was never the "white Whitney" that Tommy made her out to be and airbrushed her to perfection for people like you to be able to relate to. I believe your frustrations come from you being able to relate to her less and less with each year. She's black.

If you could interview MC and only ask 5 questions (56,676) by 123 from USA
1. Why did you pay your last album dust when performing any of those songs everywhere would have shot it to number 1.
2. Will you ever release any unreleased Sony or Def Jam material. Demo tape anyone?
3. What happened to all the footage while recording MIAM? Will it ever be released?
4. When and where are you ever going to have a fan concert singing the fan favorites?
5. You have spoken about God in your lyrics and quoted the Bible, do you practice any particular faith? Read scripture often? Spoken in tongues?

Re: God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (56,667) (56,675) by 123 from USA
Hi Bill. Can you answer a question for me? I've played both versions since the re-release back in 2006 but I can't tell the difference. What's the difference in both versions?

Re: Shade intended (56,668) (56,674) by 123 from USA
That's funny Kate. Did you see the same gif with Nicki as the dragon being shot down by and Mariah turning to a sad looking JLo and Ariana asking who is next?

Re: B / Empire pic (56,658) (56,669) by 123 from USA
I was referring to the pic she took with Lee at the Empire showing. You must have missed my original message to you saying that its time for you to post "Mariah is looking slimmer, she is slowly but surely loosing the weight." She does actually look thinner in that pic.

Empire pic (56,645) by 123 from USA
B, it's time for another one of your "she looks slimmer, she is slowly but surely loosing the weight". She actually does look slimmer in that pic and it's not just the black dress. Good for her, she looks great.

You're Mine jazz remix (56,491) by 123 from USA
With all the talk of new directions and jazz being wrongly accused of being boring, I came across this jazzy remix that shows jazz in a contemporary way.

Janet Jackson - Burn It Up (56,429) by 123 from USA
She performed this new uptempo on opening night of her tour. It features Missy Elliot and sounds like a Timbaland production. I hope with Mariah appearing on Empire that she gets to work with Timbaland again and get a hot uptempo like this one.

The Weeknd (56,395) by 123 from USA
I would love for Mariah to do a song with the Weeknd. Something structured like Earned It would be a welcome sound for her or even the pop friendly I Can't Feel My Face.

Re: Mirage (56,267) (56,291) by 123 from USA
Warrior Butterfly, I second your post. She has always mentioned a small intimate concert for her lambs promising to sing songs "only the lambs will know" but it never happens. In the theme of how popular lists are on this board (oh how we love them), here are my picks of rare songs I would like her to sing if such a concert were to occur. Like you, I have also pick songs that she can realistically pull off:
All Alone In Love - Fav song on the album.
Till The End of Time - The desperation in the lyrics and singing.
Miss You Most - I could care less if it's not Christmas, fav song on the album. Should be as big as AIWFCIY if people gave it a chance.
Slipping Away - I came across this song in 2006, what a shame I had missed it when I saw it on the b-side of the ABMB single in 96.
Melt Away - Can I finally get an actual performance, like, for real? One of my top 5.
The Roof - Her best song lyrically. My fav song of hers.
Crybaby - Fav Song on the album.
Loverboy - I don't care what anyone says, I still love this song to this day and it's underrated. Darn that she didn't get to perform it at MTV's 20th anniversary show that she was scheduled to headline.
You Know You Got Me - Another underrated classic MC uptempo from an underrated album.
Betcha Gon Know - She has no other song in her catalogue like this rarity.
Its A Wrap - I've always loved her shoops and do wops since VOL.
Faded - Have the background vocalists help you with all the layering or just change the arrangement or just sing with the backgrounds as backtracks, but I need this live.

Re: Article: Jermaine doesn't think Taylor Swift is the new Mariah (56,281) (56,287) by 123 from USA
You know, from day one JD has always defended her. That's why it upsets me when fans were attacking him and blaming him for the MIAM roll out disaster. She wouldn't listen to any of his suggestions and she had so many other things going on privately and professionally. Even today after the whole firing er I mean no longer working together collaboratively (except musically), he always gives her proper place in music and entertainment as one of the biggest and talented musicians of all time. It's more of a rarity these days and just proves he has her best interest at heart.

Re: Tamia (56,231) (56,285) by 123 from USA
It's funny Licia because a lot of people have mentioned Deniece Williams as someone Mariah may have been influenced by. Especially since Deniece sings in the whistle register and has the song Black Butterfly and Mariah has Butterfly. I'm only familiar with Black Butterfly but I will listen to Silly, Free, and Gonna Take A Miracle. I've been diving into classic singers and songs lately, especially in the r&b and soul genre. There is a lot of great music and singers back then that went under the radar and now with the internet we can access most of it. Here is a link to Desiree Coleman's You Wouldn't Hurt Me. She came out in 1988 and after her first album I believe she went gospel. You will probably recognize the incredible whistle register runs she does at the later part of the song.

Re: Andrew (56,266) (56,282) by 123 from USA
Uni (can I call you that for short?), your post is the most accurate post in a long time. It's perfect, I couldn't have said it better. I hate hot air promotion. Since the Glitter era they have said, it's a mix of Vision Of Love etc. Just give us good music. It's really that simple. Not some rush job, because her lambs can tell. That's why MIAM was so good, she crafted each song to perfection while still making all these different genres fit on one album. Each song flowed nicely after one another because of the excellent sequencing which I believe she has mastered the art of. So to me, it doesn't matter the genre, just give quality songs, great vocals/arrangements, and well thought out lyrics.

Re: Boycott the Christmas music (56,248) (56,256) by 123 from USA
Amber, I believe the re-release is more about making a quick buck then getting one over on Mariah by having it fulfill part of her album contract. I don't know if you were around back in the day but Mariah had stated that her Christmas album did not count towards her album obligation on her first deal. Plus, wouldn't filling the album obligation quickly be the idea? Artist's used to be enslaved to 8 album deals with little chance at renegotiating, even if they go platinum on the first effort (which is what is supposed to happen). She didn't get the advance she wanted per the rumors but I'm sure the deal was still a good one considering she hasn't had any major success recently and bring her back on to promote her classic material was probably the selling point. She just needs to make good quality music with great lyrics and vocals. No more Triumphant (I could care less that the dance remixes are "decent", it still sucks), TOAG, Infinity, hell, even Beautiful sounded unfinished without a bridge. I need complete, well thought out, quality songs, lyrics, melodies, and vocals like the last album. Stop with the rush jobs, it will always show in the sales and chart positions.

Re: Tamia (56,231) (56,252) by 123 from USA
I thought I had read somewhere that she said she would never cover Minnie out of respect. I see you are mentioning some old school whistle register singers. I'm currently listening to Desiree Coleman's You Wouldn't Hurt Me. That run she does in the whistle register at the peak of the song is so sick. I wouldn't mind her covering that song. Or maybe collaborate with another whistler like Chante Moore.

Tringle (56,228) by 123 from USA
I like Jojo's idea of releasing three songs at the same time. It would be great if Mariah released three quality singles in three different genres: pop, hip/hop r&B, and dance. Releasing Beautiful, Faded, and Meteorite at the same time would have been cool.

Tamia (56,218) by 123 from USA
If Mariah wants to create some contemporary r&b songs that aren't chasing trend and complementary to her voice, she should listen to Tamia's new album Love Live. Here are two songs that I love from that album: song 1 and song 2.

Re: New material / Slipping Away (56,183) (56,217) by 123 from USA
Daydream is my favorite album. It would be great if they did a special edition and add Slipping Away and any other unreleased songs from that era. I would also like a special edition of her debut with the demo versions added and any other songs she created at the time.
