I really liked this performance. Seems longer. Did they add more guitar to it? Her voice sounds good here.

You know LC, I initially agreed with you about the Christmas re-release, however, if I had a wish list of what I would want included it would be: 1. A full song version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. 2. Her Hark The Herald Angels Sing version from GMA 1991 or even just adding the live performance. 3. Her version of Where Are You Christmas? She was supposed to sing it originally, but Tommy stopped that from happening and Faith Hill ended up singing it and making her an even bigger star. It would be great to finally hear her sing it. Speaking of Trey Lorenz, his whole debut is great. Mariah and Walter co produced. It's like a lost Mariah album. You should check out Make You Happy, it's Mariah singing back up on a sexual, contemporary sounding r&b song during that period in 1992.

She has regressed vocally from the last couple shows in Vegas. Her live vocals on the last two shows were bright, clear, and resonant. Her voice was in bad shape in this show and it was painfully obvious when the pre-records came on. In Vegas, she did a good job singing live and blending well into the pre-record where most non-lambs would never notice. In this show, it was like they were really trying to make it obvious. On a positive note, she gave a good vocal performance of My All that is worth checking out. I really hope she gets back to working on following a regiment that will help her sound good vocally when she performs. It was too big of a crowd not to.

Puffy/Mariah collab (56,155)
by 123 from USA

Puffy just announced that he is returning to music and has recruited his Hit Men Production team, including Steve J. I would love Mariah to collaborate with Puffy, Steve J, and even Q-Tip and make another pop/R&B uptempo like Fantasy and Honey. I miss those types of uptempos.

New material / Slipping Away (56,154)
by 123 from USA
| |
|

With the last mediocre single and remix, I want Mariah to take her time making music and making sure that she crafts each song to perfection. The meticulousness of MIAM gave you a variety of genres and each song had its own unique vocal climax. I'd rather she release rare Sony material from the vaults to buy time while she works on a new record. Can you image if Slipping Away was released to radio right now? Off course all the r&b and hip hop stations will pick it up, but I believe it has a chance at Hot 100 success. It also doesn't sound dated and would fit perfectly playing on the radio at at the end of the summer. I also wouldn't mind her re-recording Head Over Heels and Last Chance with her own vocals. She could release an album of all her rare songs and re-sing those handful of songs she wrote for other artists like Trey Lorenz (Always In Love) and put it on a CD and call it Nostalgia.

Re: Rolling Stone/Telegraph "greatest" lists (56,010) (56,018)

Thanks for posting this LC. It just goes to show you that the music rags, whom are supposed to specialize in all things music, just go with whomever is popular at the time. Adele's Someone Like You really displays that a 21 year old wrote it. Had she had more life/love experience, she would realize how silly a song like that sounds like. Taylor Swift has 7th grade level songwriting. Compare her Love Story and Shake It Off to Mariah's Love Story and Shake It Off. Mariah's songs are lightyears ahead. Is Taylor biting Mariah song titles? Several songwriters have come forward saying Beyonce does not write and has her name in the credits for the financial gain. Lady Gaga ripped off Madonna's Express Yourself with Born This Way. The lyrics to The Roof craps on several new artists whole discographies let alone songs. I have no issues with Madonna being on a list as she has been in the industry a long time. Watch when she gets another hit a la TEOM, everyone will be praising her when right before they were saying she was washed up.

Well it is kind of hard to ignore when you post about him so often. Since when? You sure about that? You did all that work just to prove me wrong lol. There is so much to talk about right now in regards to her career and you go on this tangent again about Nick? I think you're obsessed.

I'm so happy that she is still in the studio working. Diane Warren? Sounds like she might be working on a pop flavored song, maybe a ballad.

Baby, I love you, especially since you go so hard for Mariah, but what is your obsession with bashing Nick? It's like once a week post you dedicate to bashing him, even when he isn't the topic of conversation. I don' t get it. He was 28 and she was 38. She shouldn't have said yes and she was no child. Tommy was an understandable mistake, Nick was her fault.

Empire / Timbaland (55,880)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
Mariah going on Empire, I hope that she gets in the studio with Timbaland. With Timbaland being the show's executive music producer and Ne-Yo signed on to work on music for the second season, it would be great to see her co-write a song with Ne-Yo with co-production from Timbaland. I would love to hear Mariah sing over a Hot Timbaland beat. Skydiving was cool, but wasn't good enough to make an album. This could be their shot at making a hot song. Timbaland publically gave Mariah props on twitter saying she made a good album with MIAM which we can all agree on. She doesn't get the credit she deserves and a respected producer publically gives her props. If they make a hot song on the level of MIAM and release it the same week she premiers on Empire will be great timing. She needs to quit playing with half trying to revive subpar songs and get in the studio and create a song of the caliber of her catalog.

Best live vocal moments of final show (55,834)
by 123 from USA

This YouTuber put together her best live vocal moments of the final show. I'm shocked that she actually sang the second verse of Honey live. She also went for a note in VOL that she avoided the whole show. Her voice sounded crystal clear. I hope she continues to improve and continue to sound this good.

New direction (55,771)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
I love the upward path she seems to be taking her career this year. Last year was the most silent she had been during an album roll out and this year she knocked out Vegas, her live vocals on the last show (26th) were really resonant, and crisp, and clear. Gone is the rasp you would hear when she would attempt to belt in the past. I was really hoping for her to be on Empire and it's happening. I really hope she records a really good song for the show. So glad they decided to keep the momentum going by having the Walk of Fame Ceremony after a great run in Vegas celebrating her record breaking hits. I couldn't think of anyone else who deserves it more at this point. Lee's announcement means she might be filming in multiple locations for two different projects. The only misstep is this Infinity remix business that I hope comes and goes. If all these projects go right, it will help continue to build the momentum and interest in a new music project that I hope not only brings great quality music but promotion from Mariah herself with performances, interviews, the whole bit.

French/Justin collab (55,659)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
I’m not going to judge until I hear it. Not worried though, she hit a sweet spot on that last album and even though Infinity was a miss step, there are always songs on each album that I love, but they never end up being singles. Gone are the Def Jam days of no LA, no promo, and poor single choices. Sony always knew how to push her and her new team was just what she needed. She probably had Justin do backgrounds and do the bottom end of the harmony like James Fauntleroy did on Dedicated with her. Having a male voice sing harmonies with her is always a complimentary contrast that I hope she continues.

July 22 vocal moments (55,555)

She did really good in these clips. Her voice is getting better. Her tone is sounding buttery again and her belts are clear. What I've learned is that if she performs on a continuous basis her voice seems to always get better. I hope the improvement continues and happy to see her returning to form.

TGIFU 7/26/15 (55,520)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
I don't know about anyone else, but the final performance of her July leg of TGIFU was so good. I haven't heard her have that much clarity in her tone in a long time. We've been asking her to stop lipping on songs and instead sing live and just lower the key. She finally does just that and even re-arranges this song and I"m shocked that people don't appreciate it. She even sang the Rainbow interlude right before. I would love an album full of the TGIFU vocals. Holding her to the high standards of the past just perpetuates the perceived need to have to lip. If you don't feel the vocal in this, you just might be lost in the woods.

Steve Bartels interview (55,379)
by 123 from USA

|
His response was interesting regarding Me I am Mariah. "In 2005, we had an amazing win together with The Emancipation Of Mimi. But when she made the decision, as we did together, to move to Epic, I understood it was something she needed to do. Mariah and L.A. have a great relationship, so I think reuniting with Reid was what she was looking for at that point in time. Whenever we see each other, it's very warm. We have a great history together." This is a very interesting response as to why it failed. I remember Mariah's team leaking to the press that she would be moving back to Sony soon after Memoirs came out and had a luke warm response. I think she blamed the label so she decided to go back to Sony and to someone who would put some money machine behind her. Mariah announced prematurely that she was jumping ship, the label felt a certain way about it and decided not to make her a priority anymore. You notice with each release after E=MC2 there was less and less promo from both the label and Mariah. It gives the impression that she spit out these records to get out of the deal. He says everything is warm between him and Mariah yet her Def Jam releases are not out on display with all her Columbia releases at the gift shop in Vegas. I would love an interviewer to ask her about this.

Last night's show (55,307)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
So I bought tickets the day of the show at the box office. I paid a lot less than what was offered online. First she couldn't find two seats together, then we were off to the side. Luckily she worked her magic and got us up front. A fan from Israel came and sat next two me and showed me pics of him and Mariah in Israel at the airport. He was moved by the usher for being in the wrong seat. Nice guy. Mariah sounded good and my friend who went with me didn't detect any pre-recorded moments which means she did a great job pulling those moments off to non-lambs. My friend was like "She didn't miss a single note, there wasn't a moment where I cringed, I have no complains about her voice." JP was driving the car in Dreamlover with shades on. Everything was top notch about the show and she is everywhere in Vegas. The gift shop now has all get Columbia releases sans the first number 1, her 1993 performance of LTT was playing, even the clerk was singing it. It says a lot about her relationship with Def Jam when not even TEOM or E=MC2 were available. The casino plays her music. Obsessed was on and a random girl was like, I like this song. The house was packed from the bottom to the very top. The casino Mariah performs in is very elegant, nothing cheap or over the hill about this show. I hope she continues as this helps her keep a better regiment of staying in good voice. Common Empire season 2 soundtrack with at least a guest spot.

Jermaine is no "yes" man (55,045)
by 123 from USA
| |
|

She really didn't listen to him when he was her manager and let him get hanged by the lambs on twitter. "One thing people need to pay attention is the fact that I am a producer. One day I had a session with Aretha Franklin and I wasn’t saying anything because it’s Aretha Franklin. Then, she got on the mic and said 'What are you doing here if you’re not going to tell me what to do?' From that day forth, I knew what my job was. My job is to say to these artists that I work with when I see a problem or when I feel there is a problem. I am the person that is supposed to speak up and say it. The crazy thing is that the fans - although they backfired on me about Mariah - they know that I’m the person that’s going to say it to the artist. That’s what I do. If the artist is taking a left turn, I’m the person in the room who’s going to say 'The fans are saying we need to do this, let’s do this.' Me and the artists we argue and we go back and forth. But this was not an argument between me and Mariah. And it was no shade to Mariah. Somebody asked me a question about why the press are always saying something bad about her. And I just said, sometimes I think she doesn’t pay attention to 'that' enough. I wasn’t saying that she doesn’t take her career serious enough. I won’t say that. I think she doesn’t pay attention to the fact people are always saying something about her, so you have to go above and beyond to make sure it doesn’t happen."

For the nostalgia (54,907)

With Janet returning with a song that could have come out of her Janet album, yet still sound current, got me thinking. Mariah should return to her pop/soul roots for one or two tracks on her next album. Beautiful was a return to her pop/soul roots. She needs another song or two in that vein.

Tori Kelly (54,833)
by 123 from USA

Out of all the new young female artists that have come out in recent years, I never considered any of them talented enough to work with Mariah. Tori is definitely an exception. I knew Mariah would like her since she is a singer/songwriter as well. Tori is an example of someone whom you can tell was influenced by Mariah but has her own sound instead of straight copying Mariah’s sound like Ariana who doesn’t have a hand in her sound and is told what to sing and how to sing it. It would be cool if they collaborated on something in the future.

Mariah/Janet duet (54,806)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
Mimi L, I agree, they need to finally do a song together. They have always been complementary towards each other with Mariah saying that Control is one of her favorite albums of all time and Janet coming to Mariah's defense during the Glitter era and said she thought Mariah did great in Tennessee even though Janet was originally supposed to do it. I remember JD and Nelly both saying they were going to try to get Mariah and Janet on a song together back in 06 but it never happened. I know Mariah was all for it saying she would do it but JD hadn't called her so they can write the song together and Janet played coy, probably because she was working on a comeback without riding on anyone else's coat tails. I think now is probably the best time for them to do a record. With Michael and Whitney gone, you never know when someone might be around to create something you can remember forever. I love Janet's new song. It's very throwback 90's Janet without sounding dated. Her promo roll out has been perfect. Mariah's team needs to take notes. This is how you roll out a project. You stay quiet and don't roll anything out until the music is right and everything is finished.

Even rich people want fame (54,780)
by 123 from USA

|

I'm glad that she is out and about dating. I think it is funny how everybody thinks this guy is so great because he is a billionaire. Don't get me wrong, I wanted Mimi to date a man who had his own or even more than her as it is hard for her to trust anyone because she is so wealthy, but don't be fooled, just because he has more money doesn't mean he couldn't be using her as well. There are many rich men who want fame. Look at Sofia Vergara and her former BF. He is wealthier than she is but went behind her back and tried to get a role on a film she was working on. Wealth isn't enough for some people these days, some want fame. The man is not very attractive at all and doesn't look like the type that can keep someone's interest without having to spend a dime (ie good conversation, boring). I thought she was done with business men. Hopefully she will continue to date and allow herself to be wooed by several men and take her time dating. It was very immature of her to marry so quickly and she is getting a little long in the tooth to make these brash decisions like getting married with someone she barely knows. I just hope she takes her time to find the right man, she can now that she has babies as her biological clock is no longer ticking, however, having children means that you should take your time and not introduce them to, as Mariah would say, "every Tom, Dick or Harry".

I loved your post with the idea of them working together again. That is one producer from the 90s that I would love for her to work with again. Melt Away is like, in my top favorite song of hers. They should get together to really show the new school how its done. Plus, they never got a chance to create a hit together and make it a single. Whitney with Exhale, Madonna with Take A Bow, it would only be fitting for them to have a song they constructed together be a hit. Just for the nostalgia. Heck, they can even call the song Nostalgia.

Every single person posted awesome lists. I liked scrolling through and reading them all, especially when I ran into a song I didn't think about or forgot about. It would make me stop and reflect on the song. Love the current mood of the board overall. I especially like it when folks document their reasons, it helps me look at the song through their vantage point. Shout out to Stacey for the idea and your list. Warrior Butterfly, your list if probably my favorite so far.
