Can't Let Go / Loverboy / Shake It Off / Infinity (52,054)
by 123 from USA

Can you image if these three songs would have gotten the top spot? She would have already surpassed the Beatles and have 21 number ones. Just thinking about it makes me want her to keep going. I hope Infinity is a great song. One thing is clear is that even with Mariah's last project, she still keeps releasing great music. Its just been the poor promotion. Its promising that they are dropping the song and video on the same day. She also has a performance spot scheduled on Kimmel in May along with her Vegas shows where she can perform it and possibly get it televised. It would be great if she can nab a big network to televise one of her shows. If it's a good song and promote it well enough, she can nab another number 1. It has never been the music quality as of late, it's been the promotion. I need her and her label to put in some effort and there is no reason why she can't hit number 1 again.

SIO (52,052)
by 123 from USA

I'm still mad at the fact that Shake It Off got blocked from the number one spot by record company involvement. I believe the week Shake It Off was supposed to replace WBT, and Def Jam released Gold Digger for digital download and shot it to number 1 and blocked SIO and kept it at number 2. Just like when Columbia blocked Loverboy by releasing Bootylicious for digital sales or slicing the price the same week Loverboy did. Even with their early involvement in pulling Can't Let Go from the shelves to keep it from number one as well, it shows that early on they were trying to show they were in control.

Randy - BBRemix (52,032)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
Randy, that version was not what I was talking about. It's still all laid back, it's missing the damn sample for most of the song, the chorus is half sung and blended with the bridge. That's nothing like I was talking about therefore why I didn't bother to mention that version. Ugh. Watch Kelly's performance, it's as close to what I'm hearing in my head as possible. Basically, I want the original version, original intro, after she hits the high note, ODB can do his intro afterwards and then she needs to start kicking in the shoo doo doo doo doo doo doo before he finishes and then start the verse. She can add his second rap after the bridge and continue with the original composition. Who cares if the song becomes 5 minutes long? Fantasy is an event. Basically, you can add on as much to the original as possible, just don't take anything away.

Original Fantasy and remix blend (52,015)
by 123 from USA

I think Mariah should blend the original Fantasy with the remix. Hearing only the remix with the missing hook is getting old. I like how Kelly Rolland sang it for her as a tribute. She did pretty good.

Infinity / new album (51,850)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
I believe they are putting all their energy on this new song. It is smart to just release one song if it's good. I also like the fact that they are dropping the song and video on the same day since video streams now count towards chart position. If it is a halfway decent video, she may get a good amount of video streams and if the song is available to purchase it could have a great start charting. Since this is the only new song on an album full of number ones, it would be great that they focus all their attention promoting it. No wonder she rushed back into the studio to record a new album, if this song catches steam and goes number one, they will need to drop another single/album 3 to 4 months from now to strike while the iron is hot.

Positive v.s. negative (51,794)
by 123 from USA
| |
|

When I saw the tracklisting I was disappointed and felt like this project was a quick money grabbing project. After reading all the comments, I was able to assess the project from a better vantage point. MC's career lately has been in the dumps. Rushing another album out wouldn't be the best thing right now. She released one of her best albums in years in 2014 and only the fans bought it. Why? Because the promo/roll out was horrible. The general public still don't know she released an album. This album is to get her back into relevance with today's music buying public. If you remember a recent article on songs of the 90s, todays kids had no idea who sang OSD. They thought it was Ariana. Her career is riding on this new song. It's a bold title, and it has to be more than just a good song, it has to be WBT great. Anything less, and if the promo isn't A+, you can forget about a new album having a chance. I believe that Mariah kept her best work off of MIAM. It was talked about during Memoirs that she was going back to Sony, so Def Jam didn't put any stock into any of her projects. She is also to blame for abandoning her projects since the release of E=MC2. I can say that they are off to a great start, the album cover promo with a single and video released on the same day two weeks later. This is a major improvement for just one song. Everyone who has posted has had a valid point. We need to allow everyone to give their opinion as its the purpose of this board.

Frustrated lamb (51,672)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
That is the best video I've seen in weeks Webmaster. I purposely didn't wake up when the countdown was done because I had a feeling that, 1. It wasn't going to be a song like I'd hoped, 2. There was still going to be something else that might go along with it. Glad I was right. I love how the poor lamb was having a meltdown because they couldn't see what the new cover was and kept sharing to get the website to show the new cover. Looks like their promotional idea paid off, even if some of the lambs had a meltdown because of it. Lol.

Reveal Mariah / album cover / Gisselle (51,669)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
The marketing strategy is brilliant with the countdown and the having to share in order for the cover to be revealed. I wish it was a song for all this whoopla but it shows her new team is not playing this time around. It's the most innovative marketing strategy they have had since I can't remember. The cover is a different story. I don't care for the dark make up and black dress, it is not flattering. The dress looks very similar to the one in the Mimi tour book. I know its an old picture but I prefer the pic she used for the Vegas promotion from E=MC2. It was never used and she looks beautiful, ethereal and regal in that pic. Plus I love her black and white pics. 1 to Infinity is a bold statement, especially when she is behind the Beatles. With a title like that, she better have some hot songs and great promotion and performances. A title like that better mean she is ready to bring her A game and go for more number ones. Gisselle, I agree with you as well with the cover and how anyone with an opinion that isn't praising Mariah is crucified on this board while that "one guy" can say the most visceral things on this board regarding Mariah and he gets 20 thumbs up.

Reveal Mariah (51,588)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
I really do hope that this is a song and not album cover artwork. How lame would it be to do a countdown for album artwork. I want new music not new pics. I could care less if the packaging was blank as long as there is great music inside. Remember Mariah, you are a true musician who so happens to also be pretty, not some model who can't sing a note or create a noteworthy song.

TEOM album filler? (51,587)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
Sorry, I have to disagree with your picks. Mine Again should have been a single instead of the lame Say Somethin'. Mine Again is classic Mariah with the big belts and everything, with just her and the organ. Mariah finally relinquishes production credits since her second album to work with the Neptunes and that's the best they give her? They didn't believe she would hit it big again and were looking for a quick paycheck. Boy were they wrong and Jermaine's remix So So Def Remix of Say Somethin' totally smashes the original and should have been on the re-release. At least the video was nice. Your Girl is a favorite of mine because the uptempo is a break from most of the balladry and is very catchy. Yes the lyrics are simple but she sings her butt off on this song. Circles is such a nice ballad, also another classic Mariah sounding song and you can tell by the way she sings it that she feels the lyrics. She sound hurt and emotional when she sings this song. If anything is filler it's the bland Say Somethin' and the weak To The Floor. The rest is perfection.

Cindi’s departure (51,496)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
I think this is a good thing. Power publicist or not, the spin on the Glitter era wasn't the greatest and she even contributed to the crazy talk when she snatched the mike out of Mariah's hand when she was rambling. I believe Cindi and Mariah temporarily parted ways after Charmbracelet and didn't have anything to do with TEOM. Cindi is known as a power b#@$% and gets the job done. She is very direct and abrasive which can come off as quite, you know like in the clip. When Mariah was on the Rosie O'Donnell show promoting ISB she suggested she'd comeback to do a show on beauty since she had 500 hours of beauty school and Rosie said, yeah right, if I call Cindi to book Mariah on she's going to say "No, Mariah Carey is a big star" and hang up the phone. Cindi was Rosie's publicist at the time. Plus it would be nice for someone new to come in with new ideas who hopefully will not become a "yes" person. I know the job of the publicist is to protect and spin negative press and create positive press, but like the clip shows, sometimes it puts the client in a negative light. No wonder they say Mariah is a diva, her people around make her appear that way.

Negative Nick comments / Mariah does no wrong (51,445)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
Why is everyone painting Mariah to be some helpless victim and Nick to be this mastermind manipulator who got over on her? Are we really believing this? This is not 18 year old Mariah who was taken advantage of by a 40 something president of a record company. This was a 38 year old, highly intelligent individual who has already survived a divorce and temporary career sabotage from the man that hired the "secret people" following her who she mentioned in the 99 interview that was posted not too long ago. Why would she jump into marrying someone 6 weeks after meeting him? If he truly is releasing a tell all or trying to get money out of her then, yes, he is a slimeball. But lets not jump to conclusions on some gossip column. I would hope that she makes smarter choices regarding getting involved with someone right away or even marriage. You get what you pay for and it's her fault she didn't research what she was buying. He has dated everyone and was engaged multiple times and left someone else for her. The D must be that good, but that's a move a young inexperienced girl makes. Damizza already wrote a whole chapter about her and put some business out there. Didn't she learn from that? I'm one for defending our girl when she is wronged i.e. Tommy, Def Jam, Walter, haters, but she isn't always completely innocent either in every situation.

New manager suggestion (51,344)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
Mariah Carey should have Guy Oseary be her new manager. He has Madonna everywhere, collaborating with the right people on award shows, a week on Ellen performing new songs from the album. I know what some might be thinking, it would conflict with him being a manager with Madonna and wouldn't have time to handle Mariah. He also has Alicia Keys as one of his clients and he has her recording a new album and got her and Madonna a spot as part owners of Tital.

Remake suggestion, Martha Wash, Now That You're Gone (51,273)
by 123 from USA

So if Mariah decides to add a remake on her new album, Id love for her to cover Martha Wash's Now That You're Gone. It's very fitting to her life right now. A lot of people have suggested that Martha and Mariah share similar tones. Mariah would totally rock this song. Take a listen.

New musical direction / game (51,272)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
There is such much new music out there for Mariah to get inspired from and decide to work with other producers who will take her in a new direction. I love my JD/MC collabos and want to continue to hear them, but I want her to also branch out and take risks. I'd like to suggest for other folks on the board to post a song that gives an example of a new direction Mariah might want to take. I'll start with this song. I heard it on Tidal yesterday and I can't get the beat out of my head. Mariah would totally rock this beat and write and sing something hot over it.

Lee / Tidal (51,271)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
Have you been on Tidal yet? You might change your mind once you do. Mariah wouldn't be riding on Jay's coattails at all. They would be business partners. It would be very smart of her to join. The more artists that join the more power they will have over their music and take back what they lost once downloading became a thing. Back in 1999 Mariah talked about telling her label that they need to embrace the internet and figure out how it can benefit them but no one listened. They didn't know how big it was going to impact the music business. Jay didn't beg to be on Heartbreaker, Damizza hooked up that collaboration if you read his chapter on Mariah in his book. Not that I care for Jay much, especially with his reluctance to jump on the Shake It Off remix because of some old beef with Damizza he was still harboring. Beyonce however is good friends with Mariah. They spent a New Years together and Nick once said they text all the time. Plus, Mariah doesn't need other artists to defend her when the media is tearing her down. She will prove them wrong again with another successful project. That's the difference between her and everyone else. Her voice, talent, and music does it for her. Check out this clip.

Jay-Z and a bunch of artists launched their own way of accessing their music called Tidal. I've been on it all day and they have great array of music. Mariah should give Jay and B a call and jump on this as well. It would be great press and a new way of releasing her album.

New global release date for albums July 10th (51,251)

Do you think Mariah will wait until July 10th to release her album globably? Releasing her last album on different dates really hurt her last release. What does everyone else think? Do you think her next release should be released on the same date globally?

Anytime You Need a Friend - Soul Convention Remix (51,139)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
I love this remix. I don’t know why it was called the Soul Remix, except for the glorious resung vocals. It should have been called the R&B Convention Remix because it was Mariah’s first attempt at remixing a song towards a more R&B sound. This remix represents what Mariah’s music would have sounded during 93 had she had more control of her music. I love the instrumentation, it really gives the song a new spin. I also love how she went in on the vocals. My favorite part is how she sang “just remember, no no no no". It gets me each time.

I know a lot of people don’t care for this remix, but I love for the mere fact that she re-wrote it using classic Mariah lines: Each night, and everyday of my life I’m filled with all the joy inside If there’s a probable in my grasp I will keep, holding on cause it's worth the risk to have a second chance

Great for Bruno and Mark but I don't think anyone feels this is a threat to any of Mariah's records. There are tons of songs that are tied with WBT at 14 weeks. Plus, Blurred Lines already broke WBT's record for the most radio audience impressions in one week. Records are made to be broken, Mariah will end up making or breaking more records. I believe she still has it in her.
