She should focus on her original songs, not the covers. The covers are doing great for what they are, and they help sell the album. Speaking of whch, I think that album will be diamond next year.

I have to say, with Brenda going number 1, what's really to stop at sometime some of Mariah's other Christmas hits going number 1? O Holy Night and others probably deserve that spot as well. Phenomenal vocals.

Bless Brenda, but I think RATCT is just terrible. For a Christmas song it doesn't feel like it goes anywhere, and the melody is flat, its neither here not there.
Of the songs in that era, Darlene Love's Christmas Baby Please Come Home is a much better song. There's a reason why Mariah's version is her second more popular Christmas song, because the song itself is great, and then she updated it. But I don't think she's going to promote it more than that. Maybe they can remix the two songs.

I think Brenda's song appearing in the film Home Alone augmented its appeal to American audiences. Personally, I think Mariah's song is way better. Hopefully RATCT won't stay at #1 too long. There are other more deserving holiday songs.
I would love to see Chuck Berry's "Run Rudolph Run", Charles Brown's "Please Come Home for Christmas", or Darlene Love's "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" hit number one. Though I think Mariah's cover of Darlene's song greatly improves on it.

Yes RATCT is more of a family sit down get together kind of song.
AIWFCIY is more festive and celebration with a timeless message. These two songs will play together forever.
Oh Santa has a great beat and a fun song, but it has a stalker-y message. Maybe that's why its still not grabbing the public.
When Christmas Comes sounds like a real classic-in-the-making to me.
Christmas Time Is In The Air is a great stroll around Christmas song, when you're driving or walk-around-the-park or in a bus.
I'm re-discovering The Star. What a beautiful song. It deserves more love.
Miss You Most At Christmas can be the next Last Christmas with a good video. It has a similar dreary sad message.
These are all Mariah originals.

Christmas collabs (104,480)
by jaker20 from US
| |
|
|
Apparently, Mariah will (rumor) bring out JHud and Ariana in MSG. But to me, this collab isn't doing the song any favors. Their voices don't blend well. Well, Ariana and Mariah's voice blends a bit, but JHud, bless her, doesn't.
So got me thinking: who should Mariah collab next? How about Darelene Love or Brenda Lee, in the form of mashup. It's not like Mariah, Ariana and JHud all showed up on the studio.
I actually really really like Mariah's live duet with Michael Buble. I thought their voices blend so very well together. And I don't hate her duet with Justin Bieber, either.
So it sounds like Mariah's best duets are with the male artists. I can't wait for Mariah/Usher being together again.

It is eligible for certification. Next year could be a big year for MC on the album's 30th anniversary. MC should do something and stop playing.
The way I see it is, to drum up excitement, release an album Caution 2.0 level of excellence, do a big push the debut album, both leading up to the 30th anniversary of legendary album. Which would give her 4 diamond albums.

A girlfriend of mine attended the show. She's a casual fan but went with a group of girls for fun. She recorded some fantastic videos. This is from her social media post: "Back in the 90s I said more than once that 'all I wanted for Christmas' was to see Mariah Carey perform (that song) - and many other songs live. It only took me 30 years but my wish came true. Last night, we attended the sold out Mariah Carey Christmas show - and wow it definitely was worth the wait. She included favorites from her 1994 and 2010 Merry Christmas albums along with many other non holiday hits. Mariah looks, sounds flawless and seems to be having fun on stage with her band and dancers. So grateful for another fun girlfriend holiday adventure. Here is a little taste of the magic."

Yep, thanks for posting. That's literally what I meant by my last post. When it's a close race, all these little things matter. And Brenda's team did due diligence and actually worked those promo games. Mariah's team did nothing this year and released nothing new. So in a way Brenda deserves it.
By the way, I re-watched Mimi's AppleTV+ Christmas thingy from a couple of years ago. Not many saw it, but my niece loved it. Oh look Mariah has legs and arms and they're moving. She looks happy and animated. It's amazing how just a couple of years has changed for her.
Maybe I'm just being paranoid (our resident annoying cute friend Edward here thinks I am). But I think Mariah is distracted. The lack of new projects or any release this season make me think that Tanaka is still in her mind. That story isn't finished. That's just what I think.
Anyway, these jealous haters celebrating on twitter when their faves don't even have a classic like AIWFC. It's on its way to becoming the biggest of all time, while their faves don't even have a song the charted in decades.

It can't just be this one song. It's everything else, the little things that helps and matters. Two years ago she had had that AppleTV+ thingy with Jhud and Ariana, and then the year later the second special with Khalid and Kirk. They're cute little songs here and there, not huge hits, but they contribute. All these little things helps. It can't just be this one song. She has all year to prepare, but has no new visuals nor project this year.
I always say that Caution paved the way to AIWFC's massive resurgence. The album was not a huge hit, but it gained her a whole new young fans which contributed to a whole lot.
Next year I expect the new album. And then a bunch of new videos, maybe for Miss You Most At Christmas, like a real video with a classy intriguing story, not those cheap $10 videos.
Good for Brenda, but I'm sorry but her song is just awful. It's neither here nor there. But good for her, her team is outsmarting Mariah's.

Honestly, who cares? It's a good thing, in my opinion. There is now less pressure to keep maintaining that same level of success with it and frankly I'm bored of the Crimbo song already. And the talk of charts and that Brenda Lee who, sorry sister, should not have been slapped in that bloody awful blonde wig. It's a awful wig, a awful song and a awful nauseating thought that I might accidentally happen to listen to it ever again. It will undoubtedly be playing at the gates of hell upon my entry.
Next year is Merry Christmas 30 and the Crimbo Song's 30th. That's a huge, huge deal. I say Mariah do two concerts in Hyde Park, London. Winter in London, Mariah on stage with 65,000 people singing Crimbo songs into the night air, followed by a festive fireworks display. And stream it live on AppleTV.
If she did something like this, it would be global news and a massive celebration of the anniversary of her creating something that is truly timeless - unlike these little Christmas shows that nobody really gives two shiny shits about.
Barclaycard x Apple presents...

Labels don't have that much control, period. They have been trying to make artists, songs and albums happen for the longest that never went anywhere. Streaming changed the game, stars and hits have come out straight out of YouTube, streamers gave them that. Promoting helps a lot to bring attention to projects, but people ultimately decide. AIWFCIY has been hitting the top spot for four years in an row, give me a fat effing non-delusional break. Mariah and her team haven't sat their asses down, they have been pushing AIWFCIY way more aggressively than Brenda and her team. Brenda didn't write RATCT, she basically doesn't profit much from it. Pedro's post isn't paranoia, is it actually true. I'm not sure you fulling understand how it works. A few days ago, you said labels have no control, and I explained to you how that is not true.
Labels can influence placement on playlists through Discovery Mode. It is a feature for artists which is some kind of digital payola, where labels received reduced royalty in exchange for prioritized placement. It is not pay by play, but if you understand algorithms, it is very effective.
The placement of a song in a playlist with millions of users is very consequential. Im not sure why you're comparing it to you playlist lol. They are not the same. Regular users normally plays a playlist pushed to them by the app, and then stop at a certain point. So makes a massive difference.
So the past few weeks, Mariah has not been added on some of the biggest curated playlists, until recently. Brenda's song has been on playlists mentioned below that often doesn't even have to do with Christmas. And that already works against Mariah in terms of boost from algorithms. It has a slower headstart.
Like I said, Brenda's team has been aggressive this year and we give them that credit. Mariah's hasn't, probably they felt they didn't need it which I think is a mistake.

That's not boycott or illegal. You don't have to listen to those playlists. Most people have their own playlists anyway, and Spotify is not the only streaming platform. Brenda wasn't at the top of some of those playlists before. Was she being boycotted since AIWFCIY hit number one? I thought we had moved on from the paranoia lambs tend to have about some mega powerful entity coming for Mariah. AIWFIY and RATCT are the Christmas hits they are because millions of people love them and got them there. You can discount, you can gift, you can pray, you can throw a lambtrum, but all that won't make a song popular or hit if people don't like it.

Spotify US has around 45M users, while Apple has around 30. There's also a tiered system in Billboard where ad supported streams are counted, even though they are given lesser points, but Spotify ad supported subs is more than double their paid subscribers. That's been the case for many years now.

I'm not so sure. Brenda's team have lined up an aggressive campaign this season and in the coming weeks. Spotify is on Brenda's side. Brenda's team is playing bunch of playlist gamifications this year. She's at the top of some of the biggest playlists on Spotify currently. For example, I just saw that they removed Mariah on that large "Christmas Is Coming" playlist with millions of users, and they just added her yesterday lol. That is just one.
Artists can deal with Spotify for higher playlisting and other algo boosts for lower pay royalty. This is perfectly legal by the way. So Mariah can be at the top in all other streaming platforms. But Spotify is where the geming is on. If Mariah does these she would be criticized lol. That's the problem with being at the top.

Being triggered is one thing, but basically sabotaging an artist so they won't be number one is a different monster. Brenda's team's making sure she is promoting, she has a new video, she's giving interviews, she's on Tik Tok, she has an EP with different versions of the song. They are just making sure the song has the best chance at hitting the top spot, it's business. Just like Mariah has been doing it for years.

Everyone's jealous. That's all it is. Yes, Mariah's resurgent success has triggered a lot of people, even fans of more current pop girls. Labels, music media, execs, artists, industry people. They are seething. That's how you know that she’s doing something right.
Mariah [has] the best career. Having dominated an era. And then after her peak, comes a classic that will outlast everyone. No one has that combo, not Elvis, not The Beatles, not anyone. That's triggered a lot of people, the media, labels, execs, artists, industry people. Because that pushes her career above and beyond.
I think with her 18th no.1 15 years ago, she got a bit scared about actually beating [The Beatles]. Everyone's coming after her. I think she was unsure if she wanted it. But after AIWFCIY, she actually realized it's very achievable, and if she does the world won't implode. And if she doesn't, someone else will. I think Taylor will attempt it.
But I don't think Mimi cares about her critics anymore. She seems like she's just enjoying all of the icings on the cake.
As for Darlene, I was hoping that they would collab for Christmas BPCH. I was so sure it would be a classic.

The music business isn't a sweet easy going industry. Every artist will tell you that including sweet Dolly Parton. Record executives aren't playing nice when they are promoting a song to get it to number #1. There are some underhanded strategies being done behind the scenes to make it happen at the UMG executive offices. If RATCT goes to number #1, a huge television media frenzy will be made about it that week. Just my two cents from Texas.

Um Spotify has its own version of digital payola, with reduced royalties for some kind algorithmic boost via playlists. And Brenda's team have been very aggressive this year, having multiple versions included in playlists and having it strangest playlists like pop and teen playlists. Robert-Anthony, the music industry doesn't have much control over anything anymore. The music industry as we knew it, it's forever gone. They can't influence streaming platforms to block users from playing the music they like, radio just goes along with what's trending or they stay out of the game. Fans have more control, instead of calling like crazy to request, we just go and stream, everything is way different. As I have stated, these two songs have legs of their own, the one that makes it to number one will be based on its own merit and promotional push on big events. AIWFCIY is a pure number 1, people keep buying it after all these years, they keep playing it and streaming it, no gimmicks. If Mariah really wanted, she could break The Beatles' record, just three great collabs with Drake, Ariana and Taylor Swift should take her there. I don't really care for that record though, the way things are, Taylor will eventually top them both.

Brand new album. That is how she stays relevant. Even if it's not a blockbuster hit, a good album is a good album, and it eventually reaches new fans. That is what happened to Caution, its impact was slow burn.
And in my opinion, it set the stage for the smashing return of AIWFCIY in 2018/2019. She needs to go back to releasing albums. That's her starter pack for the new gen to her classics.

I'm quite curious to read everyone's opinion. For 2024, would you rather have Mariah releases a 10 to 12 tract Rarities 2 album, where half of the songs are never before heard songs, or would you rather see here release a brand new 10 to 12 song studio album?

He also had a big no.1 hit last year with First Class which heavily samples Glamorous by Fergie, who imo, like Mariah in BE got screwed over and due to a bunch of technicalities did not get credited.

Jack Harlow is popular today because of his song What's Poppin went viral on Tik Tok. Lil Wayne, Tory Lanez, and Da Baby jumped on the remix and reached #2 on the Hot 100. He got a Grammy nomination and XXL Magazine named him apart of the 2020 Freshman class. His new song Lovin On Me is a R&B sample of 1995 Cadillac Dale's song Whatever (Bass Solique) and it is another Tik Tok viral sensation.
