About Stacey from USA:
Been a fan since 1993. Favorite albums include Daydream, TEOM, and Music Box. I love a good discussion, but won't stand for hateful comments because we disagree. I am too old to deal with drama and so are you. Keep it real with me and we'll have some fun. Peace.

Herd mentality (105,576)
by Edward from USA

I do not follow the herd mentality. It's perfectly fine if 99 percent of people love the "Yes, And?" remix. I've always advocated for people expressing their opinions here, even if they differ from my own. I will respectfully express my views, even if they diverge from the prevailing consensus.
I think it's time for me to take a break from this board. Peace to all.

Yes, And? lyrics (105,555)

I'll just say this: Drop the sh-word and f-word in a your next job interview and see if they hire you. I've never understood the need to use cuss words.

Yes, And? lyrics (105,553)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
Jaker, "extra gatekeeping" is a great way of putting it. Thank goodness censored versions of songs have always been played on traditional radio and readily available to stream if that's what you prefer.
The power of GTFO without the actual word loses its power as a song and expression. Even in "It's a wrap", the "put all your sh** in an elevator" or "I should have never given you my [censored] two way" from Clown, lines are so much more expressive and true to the anger the song is projecting (which is the art) then say "put all your stuff in an elevator".
Swearing isn't about age, that's obscured. if you're in your 30's, 40's, 50's and you believe you've out grown curse words, what age range is curse words bond to? I can tell you you won't want it to be your children, teens your young 20's using those words if that's your view on using expressive language. Words only mean something when you put meaning to them.
If curse words are what you're worried your children will hear, I'm sorry, but as a parent in 2024 that's the least of your worries. Say ummm like a criminal eligible to be a global leader, or people not having the freedom to express themselves without death because of how they were born. Those are things to teach the next generation, language is only but a tool of expression.

by Libra Lamb from USA

I couldn't agree more Matty. We have no right to censor the artist. Some here won't like anything MC puts out regardless. I personally enjoy the music and will support all of MC's efforts. Basically, if Mariah likes it, then I like it. Consider the records a gift. One day MC will no longer be here and they've sat there complaining and waiting for projects that will never come. Instead, they could be more supportive and be grateful, it shouldn't be hard for her biggest fans. If they can't do that it's ok but, with all due respect, maybe it's time to move on.

Yes, And? lyrics (105,535)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
I'm a 46 year old adult who doesn't care for profane-laced lyrics. Spare me the "it's art" argument. It's an old and often overused reason to justify such unnecessary decisions. The song is just fine without it. Why add it? Makes zero sense to me.

Yes, And? lyrics (105,529)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
I get some people's objection to the profanities in the song, although this is music for adults, and radio plays clean versions. Profanities are just words, just like every other word. It's art and words are an expression of art. Anyways . What was odd to me is that some don't like the message of this song. it's extremely empowering. "Wear this stuff on your chest, be your own best friend. I'm done with hypocrisy" etc. it's extremely empowering and self assured. Aside for your view on curse words, why isn't this songs lyrics a flex of self love and empowerment?

I like the song. It's got 90s retro vibe all over it and I am totally on board, minus the cuss words. Ugh, someone find me a clean remix version. Stat. But, I digress. Given her last couple of songs (remember I Don't, Crapfinity, Save the Day), I'd say this is a huge improvement. Hopefully a new album continues in this direction.

When was the last time Mariah was on top worldwide and it wasn't a Christmas song? Even here in Norway, Mariah is now #3 on top songs on iTunes. I had completely forgotten the feeling I experience when Mariah is represented on the charts. It's too early to hope for Mariah's name to be on offical charts around the world, but what a great feeling that would be. Nevertheless, congrats Mariah and Ariana.

I had to think of Madonna too. Lol. House and a little En Vogue vibe. Yes, who would have thought? I think the teens will like the remix. I don't feel this song. Maybe mostly because I don't like the music from Ariana in general. I also don't need the f. in lyrics. Luckily I have the MB 30 where the lyrics are wonderful. Plus the remix of "Working hard" which is a hundred times better than this. Just my humble opinion.

As always when new MC music is released, I am hopeful. In the meantime I am loving Music Box all over again. My first song heard was Hero. First album bought was MB. I got the 3CD set in the mail a few days ago. I love what MC wrote about the album. It was released during troublesome times in her personal life. But she also recognizes the album is an important part of her career development, an important part of her life, even if it was during the Tommy years.

So um we were supposed to be getting an announcement today from Mariah either about the remix or something else. I wonder if it's true or if we're clowning hahah. The remix is supposed to be out tomorrow and I saw that an Ariana fan account posted it might be The Weeknd on the remix. At this point there has been so many people's name attached to this remix haha. Also the Nostradamus insider account mentioned that Shakira and Mariah may be collaborating, I call BS on that because the actual news was that Shakira reached out to Mariah to sample IKWYW for a new song.

Ok now that I've had some time to absorb this whirlwind of a surprise. Here are a few thoughts, I am so happy for Mariah getting the love and admiration she deserves by getting a standing ovation. Everyone looked like they were in awe of her and Miley was so pumped even backstage she was gushing over Mariah. I absolutely love the huge publicity Mariah got over this weekend and I hope she uses this momentum to her advantage. The industry is fast moving so she needs to make her move when the spotlights on her. I'm glad she didn't announce anything today because Taylor did and that's going to be a whole storm. But MC make your move. I think this Grammy collab has been a very strategic move for her and if true I'm glad she's finally playing the industry game to her advantage after so long.

Great post Mimi. I think we are in store for something special later this year. I have to be a hater here and admit that I really don't like when she sings jazzy songs and similar. I am an old school pop lover (even a bubble pop like Britney) and I only want to hear songs like Fantasy, Honey, Heartbreaker, basically anything with a hard clean beat.
