Re: Great album titles (60,702) (60,710) by Andrew from UK
All good suggestions, Randy. I drop "Butterfly Beyond" and suggest "TinTin". I will take Mariah to my hairdressers for the cover art.

Re: The 90s (60,688) (60,709) by Andrew from UK
You're exactly right, at least from the perspective of what I read in the UK in the nineties. Mariah was always reviewed at three out of five stars. Most criticisms were that her voice was about acrobatics and the lyrics were schmaltzy "I want a boyfriend" or "I love you come back to me" etc. Being "formulaic" was the problem. I think Mariah could look way deeper with her lyrics. "7 Years" is one of the best songs lyrically, melodically and vocally anyone in Europe has heard in, well, years. Mariah needs to go further with honesty and delve into story telling more with lyrics and videos. We live in the YouTube age where everybody communicates about their lives and are open and honest about the issues they face and the worries they have. I do think Mariah could be a little more non-metaphorical and talk about the reality of life. When I heard the album title "The Art of Letting Go" I thought this was where she was going. Unfortunately the "kitchen window" was about as far as this went. People love "Someone Like You" by Adele because it tells a story of an ex moving on when you haven't, going to see them one last time, it being selfish but productive and bittersweet. I would love Mariah to do a third push with her lyrics and switch it up again (TEOM being the second switch up). And in saying that, suggesting a title for the new album is kinda pointless. The whole things needs a theme and a message and the title will be borne of that. Fingers crossed.

Re: Best night of my life (60,654) (60,670) by Andrew from UK
I hope so. I think Mariah is excited to see me. I have good seats so she'll have a good view. . Although I read Manchester had sound issues. I hope these are fixed before she gets to the O2. She'll be super pissed if she can't hear me singing.

The Boy Next Door (60,636) by Andrew from UK
2015 Jennifer Lopez movie. In one scene early on she's on a date with someone she gets irritated with. Date: "You're a little firecracker when you get riled up, aren't ya?" J. Lo: "Firecracker?" This is surely intentional. If it was in the script originally she would surely have asked for a different word. But it's in the movie. Maybe there's just too much vodka going on here.

Butterfly Beyond? (60,618) by Andrew from UK
I kinda changed my mind about "Songbird Supreme" as it may make Mariah sound like she's trying to say she's better than Eva Cassidy. It would be a good tour or greatest hits title. It occurred to me that it might be a cool idea, twenty years after it was released, to do a Butterfly sequel to signify that the journey started in '97 has come to some sort of resolution. "Butterfly Relanded" maybe. "The Return of the Butterfly". "Butterfly Beyond". No more ridiculous album titles that most straight men wouldn't be see dead owning.

Re: The 90s (60,575) (60,616) by Andrew from UK
Ian lol. Bloody hell mate, bitch fest or what. All those buzzwords/phrases are fine - if you're a teenage fangirl. If you're an adult and use them, you sound like a twat. Every time. Without fail. And are probably an embarrassment to your parents. Anyway, I think talking about what Mariah wears etc is perfectly fine if it's interesting/enlightening and tempered between posts about her music or performances or things relevant to her career etc. I think you're venting because this board often descends into a few fangirls posting nonsense like "slay, my queen" over and over which is, without a doubt, [censored] boring for almost everybody else. Almost as boring as a certain poster trying to let everybody know that he's out, proud and very, very loud with every poorly written, convoluted, grammatically incorrect, boring post. Just saying. I liked your post, though. It raised a smile.

Re: Mariah - Leeds show (60,562) (60,567) by Andrew from UK
Nothing better to do? They were sat in an arena for which they paid a lot of money waiting for a show, which like other arenas, was due to start at 8:45. No, I don't imagine they did have anything better to do other than boo. Civilised protest is a staple of a civilised, democratic society. I imagine the booing made Mariah move her arse. People who arrive at 6:30 don't expect a three hour wait when they have jobs to go to the next day, children to take home, transport links to other cities to connect to on time. The great people of Australia are making similar feelings to Madonna known. Diva antics have consequences on the lives of the "little" people from whom a lot of money is taken. You sound so 12yearoldfangirl I half expected the word "slay" to appear. Normally your posts are enjoyable. Not when you insult thousands of reasonable people so you can fangirl. Ridiculous.

Squad a difference a day makes (60,353) by Andrew from UK
The reality tv show quagmire, given that I want Mariah to get back to her "day job", instantly made me think of two things: 1. the QVC embarrassment/cheapening of a global star, and 2. the business woman on her tour bus holding up her hand authoritatively insisting, "I can't be seen to endorse anything." It will either be a hot mess or something genuinely stylish, and, hopefully, further, it could be crafted as an informative piece of entertainment which will make her relevant to new/lost markets. Whitney's "Bobby" she is not. My love is deep enough to be assured of that. My Aussie friend, who is coming with me to party at London's O2 Arena (MSG eat dust), happens to have just completed filming a so-called reality-tv scissor-reel to be sold to US and UK networks, and the finished product is so crafted that I was left speechless by the end product. "Reality-tv" and "Squad" is alarming in Mariah's case. I postulate it will change before it goes out. But, if Mariah and her team have a stylish product to put out then this may be fantastic. Mariah may be able to relate to new/lost markets as to how professional/legendary/relevant she is and show, in a positive light, how her team relate to her on the road (they'll have to insult at some point but that makes for great television and is not necessarily negative). This could, potentially, be [censored] awesome. It depends where her head is, and I, for one, am excited (and, in equal measures. apprehensive) to see it. I hope it will be a product designed to portray her as a relatable, global superstar. My main-stay now is this: if Mariah is moving into finding new markets in which to sell new music, I'm for it. And I cross my fingers in support. Mariah has lost, to me, these markets: straight guys, youth, some non-black (please your Lord, it's my opinion and not racist, but factual, let's admit it and not throw labels around) and she specifically needs these demographics to sell. TEOM went global because the music, marketing and promotion brought everybody into the fold. If this is a precursor to doing that again, sign me up.

Re: Only one MC song (60,275) (60,279) by Andrew from UK
"Captain's log, supplemental": Someone once said to me, on a drunken Soho night, that they get why I like Mariah: "No matter what mood you're in, she's got a song that compliments how you're feeling" (not verbatim, obviously). One song? Impossible. Soundtrack to a soul. "Songbird Supreme". Call the next album that and smash it, Mariah.

The future (60,278) by Andrew from UK
I am pleased many people seem to be more open to shout that Mariah needs a change of musical direction. This blind following, screaming that everything she creates is fantastic, that everything she does is crafted with genius foresight, must surely end. MIAM was a good Mariah album (as in something decent in a vacuum of decent Mariah output for a while) but it is not the masterpiece some people claim (although, we all like different albums for different reasons and I respect that). I find that album forgettable now. Some of it - dare I say - is embarrassing. Other parts are genius, however. Actual genius. The claim that "she made it for the fans" is embarrassing and those who make it should feel so. Did she inform the label she was making an album for a select group and not for mass sales? It's nonsense. Likely to me the label didn't bother with it because it was irrelevant to musical trends and could not compete. I'm quite clear that Mariah is on a precipice, of ruining her legend and/or becoming a greatest hits artist. She absolutely must take a different approach. It's boring. Let's all be honest about it. There is nothing exciting about her music anymore. And, as stated many times, there's nothing exciting about her stage performances (crossing fingers for the O2 arena in a fortnight). But I'm sure nobody is really convinced she is going to change her musical direction. It's one rapper after another, a desperate need for recognition within black culture, and a formulaic approach to output. Further, does anybody really want an album put out now? It is evident that Mariah has to leave dreary RnB behind and recent posts about a retun to simple hooks and universal, creative lyrics are spot on, from my perspective (why you mad? let me count the ways). Perhaps Mariah should just greatest-hits it and *tell* the fans what it is going on? And that's my point here: the fans and lambs alike deserve some form of communication now: what is the future? What is going to happen? Mariah used to communicate with her fans like no other artist. She paved the way for that as in many other areas. In saying that: I'm pretty sure "lambs" existed before any other artist affectionately labelled his or her following. Now, it's people like Giovanni (love his passion, incidentally) having to make it up, fabricate, guess, wait, wait some more, be disappointed etc. and not receive the hype they amassed in their heads. Time for Mariah to speak up and respect her fans. Not that it's an active disrespect. But I think it's a passive one and it definitely exists on some level. Think we've reached a turning point with the SSF tour. She needs to get back to her day job. And talk to us about the future.

Honi soit qui mal y pense? (60,194) by Andrew from UK
Somebody's knowledge here of the difference between HIV and AIDS-related illnesses is wanton. I have no respect for ignorance. I take full advantage of free speech and, mostly begrudgingly, accept other points of view, whilst not respecting them. And, sometimes, I am fiercely critical and push people to their limit, also. But then there is actual vulgarity. Whilst not presuming myself the arbiter of righteousness (and sounding terribly British) the recent post about Mariah's "heartlessness" etc. is so ill-informed and without foundation I am embarrassed for the poster. I am sure there are some who would criticise me in the same manner so. But to my threshold: ill-informed and vulgar. "What a prick" came to mind.

J.Lo (60,184) by Andrew from UK
I always thought "I don't know her" was Mariah gritting her teeth and telling the interviewer to not try to use her for ratings. I thought it was a sleight against the interviewer not Lopez. I never took it as "who dat?" because she would have just said, "Who dat?" Isn't this J.Lo thing more about fans stoking up the fires rather than Mariah stoking them up? Anyway, the best revenge is always success. Having been in musical obscurity for 8 or so years, Mariah should come back with a critically lauded album and a couple of hit songs: YDKWTD was a missed opportunity - imagine that now with a decent rapper on it. Anyway, Giovanni's already heard the new songs and is currently planning the PR and launch party. Oh, to be in some of your heads. Peace out.

If it happened to you (60,103) by Andrew from UK
In re: the posted article's comment from Elton that Diane and Gaga's song deserving the Academy Award: it really, really did, in my opinion. "Shocking" doesn't cover it. I wouldn't want to go so far as to say Sam Smith embarrasses me, but I'm with Dustin. That aside, the song just isn't very good. Remove the Bond strings and people's affinity for Sam Smith, and well? Warren's song is a masterpiece and the performance captivating. Mariah can do this. She needs to find herself in the music once more. She spoke to souls once. No kitchen windows involved.

I think she looked great. She's older. Lines appear. I'd prefer no more plastic surgery. Some people go way to far with that and look like badly shaped wax-works rather than beautiful people. Grow old gracefully, I say.

The emancipation of RiRi (59,847) by Andrew from UK
Rihanna has a big fan base. She hasn't altered anything in years. Nobody makes fun of her. Her machine is crafted to bang out popular chart hits. Don't cry foul when she surpasses Mariah with more No. 1's. Mariah has far and away more talent. If Mariah is "writing the songs she wants for the fans" blah blah and doing no promotion for anything, that's her business (although still playing greatest hits concerts over the world constantly). Rihanna is successful. It's not her fault Mariah all but gave up and self-indulged. Funny how Mariah's accomplishments are heralded but if Rihanna gets number ones it's less deserved. I must stress that I believe, as most do, Mariah to be on a different level. But she have up with this Memoirs/ Triumphant/ YM(E)/ Kitchen Window nonsense. Someone recently posted she hasn't written anything good in years. I think this thread is prominent in that argument. In saying that, the previous threads about writing summer tunes, or an old school title signature to the Mariah formula, something upbeat, filters in here. When I said "eg back to her day job" I meant it. About time she wrote something everybody can get into. Black or white.

Re: My All clip Valentines Day 2016 (59,802) (59,811) by Andrew from UK
Apparently she's lipping to "catch her breath". I guess everyone needs to breathe. I had someone message me elsewhere 2 weeks ago (image available) complaining that he would return his O2 tickets if the new Vegas vocals were what he would hear. That clip posted wasn't good. And there's something quite awful about clips where the note is flashed up on screen. It's not impressive. I can sing those notes myself. Most people can. What's going on at the moment? This is worrying. I paid £200. If that clip is anything to go by, there's no song that won't be lipped. Seriously concerned.

Re: What's wrong with today's pop stars? (59,758) (59,762) by Andrew from UK
Lee, Mariah writes decent songs, she can write songs. Unfortunately, I agree with the gist in that in the past decade they've been overthought, over-produced, with a melange of melodies in trying to be too clever, and sometimes with lyrics unbecoming and forgetful ("outside the kitchen window right now"). They haven't been aimed at the charts. I don't believe Mariah can't write a 1989 or some such. She just doesn't want to. And this makes it doubly more confusing because she only ever performs a greatest hits session on stage which features hardly any modern stuff for another display of the same songs over and over. It's very bizarre. You'll be accused of being a troll but your point of view is somewhat valid, in my opinion. Seems to be a growing general consensus amongst lambs and fans alike that she needs to get back to her day-job and write music people want to hear instead of more self-indulgence. I don't care what people say about MIAM, when I play Mariah I don't play it anymore. It's dated even now.

Re: Mariah Carey - My All Caesars Palace 02.02.16 (59,730) (59,744) by Andrew from UK
It would be much better if she dropped the lip parts, which, ostensibly, she can do live given the other parts she sings, and, also, if she used vibrato. The long held notes without vibrato are nowhere near as pleasing on the ear. And the ball gowns? New stylist and interesting sets for the SSF tour is absolutely required. Pants at some point would be good. I see people talking of the set list. It's unlikely she will stray that much. It's about time she put on a new show. A jet ski in place of a chaise longue does not a set piece make. The duet with Whitney is a great idea but she'll never do it. Open Arms would be perfect and it sounds like she could sing it without sticking in a lip section. Vibrato needed tho or just seems like shouting again. Without You of course, but she'll never lower the key so she'll lip most of it. I think Hero should be the Never Too Far mix that she promoted heavily here in 2002. So much she could do. I think Mariah still doesn't quite get the age we live in. Her shows are rehashed staging. Fans wants to be surprised. Perhaps she should even choose a non-catalogue song and sing it. An MJ number. Do a Celine, put on some pants and work the stage. Something new. If it's just an empty stage with the usual back-up and dancers, with the same songs in a slightly different order, it will be good. But it won't be great.

I listened to the song when you posted it and thought it was great. But maybe I over-listened to it as the hook started to irritate me. Or maybe I'm just a miserable bastard. It is good though. I'm surprised she let somebody sample her. It's rare and unusual. Especially given it's her most famous hook. I can't think of a better known one. Incidentally, I've been watching out for your tattoo programme. Post a link, fam, innit.

The articles to be let go (59,640) by Andrew from UK
Dear Mimi L, the stiffness is part of what makes it awkward. Compare MC doing the same thing with Andi Peters during the Rainbow promotion, singing AYNAF over the closing credits (I think it was oZone). Massive difference. She was happy, cheerful, fun. This looked reluctant, awkward, uncomfortable. But then Andi Peters was black, wasn't he? Oh, cheer up, everyone. But I don't get some people here. They kick off about the smallest thing, and things which are purposely reconstructed to fit their righteous indignation. But a racist article about Mariah's fiancé and now an absurd article about her son wearing a pacifier both go unnoticed. I don't agree with any children being used as promotional tools. Before Rene Angelil's funeral I could not have picked Rene-Charles out of a line up. But this article seems to actually pick on Mariah's kid and his development. This isn't journalism. He will no doubt read that when he's older. And as daft as I think Mariah J.Lo'ing her life and public persona with seemingly silly marriages is (you asked me last week to clarify the intent behind a (rather wine- and emotion-fuelled) comment, so there it is), Packer hasn't really done anything wrong. He supports her and always has great big, fat smile on his face. The article is genuinely wrong and people online really ought to have sided with him more vehemently. Mimi L., I love how you love Mariah and the respectful, thoughtful ways you approach it. So I send you much love.

And I'm sure he was grateful for the thing he forced a reluctant singer to sing. And I'm sure she enjoyed it also, judging by the horrified look on her face. I wish I could live in the land of unicorns. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, people are praising an article about a "white" person not being able to dance. All is okay.
