About Stacey from USA:
Been a fan since 1993. Favorite albums include Daydream, TEOM, and Music Box. I love a good discussion, but won't stand for hateful comments because we disagree. I am too old to deal with drama and so are you. Keep it real with me and we'll have some fun. Peace.

Webmaster request (109,930)

I'm still confused about who or what said anything to Brad. I certainly did not call him names nor do I ever call anyone here names. Yet, I was looped in somehow. *shrugs* My only comment was how a bunch of us were coming up with funny album titles, poking some fun at MC herself. Nothing too serious. I started posting online with the MC pink boards during the CB era. I was 24 and took everything so personally. Now at almost 48 years old, I could care less what someone says. Maybe it is an age and maturity thing. Who knows. I wish him the best.

No I haven't read the comments on X and Instagram. I'm not into this. I just wanted to say I feel sorry for Brad. And I liked to read his comments, so I'll miss his thoughts on MC, that's all. I will never have thick skin too and that's okay. The older you get, you get tired to cover anything. You're just authentic and most people like it. More than a façade. You only loose energy with facades. It's not worth it. To be sensitive and kind is not a bad thing. Amen to quote Brad.

Shezz, thank you for your kind words. I always enjoy your posts too. I can't believe I will have a 17 year old in a few months. I feel old, lol. I definitely prefer 90s MC, but always look for songs on each album to connect with. I just want MC to be happy and respected. She is a once in a generation talent. I love the album title. It speaks to MC owning everything in her life and how its shaped who she is today, and I am totally here for it too. I can't wait to hear SS and the rest of the new album.

Stacey I wouldn't call you a "Tommy Era only" fan. Key word being "only". You show love for her all the time and you never partake in any bashing. You're a wonderful person and wow you have a 17 year old. I too fell in love with her during the Tommy era and I will never deny those were her best years, but I still look forward to what she releases now. It is what it is. Here for it all. Pun intended.
I love the album title and the cover art, although it feels more like a photograph you'd generally find in the album liners than on the cover. It's very reminiscent of a magazine shoot she did a few years ago, I think for W.

I love the title. It speaks to her amazing career and all those events (good and bad) that have shaped who she is today. Did you guys know Here For It All has the same release date as Daydream? That can't be a coincidence, right? 9/26 is also my daughter's 17th birthday. So of course in her honor I'll be buying Mariah's new album, lol. Amazon has exclusive cover art releasing on July 23rd. As a Tommy era fan, I'm not stressing about anything. I always hope for the best.

I think Bye Bye was a worthy second single and Migrate isn't an undeniable hit. I think the Candy sample is better than Firecracker for Loverboy. I think #Beautiful is really boring. MIAMTEC is MC's worst album by far. Did I Do That is a great song. Through The Rain is better than Hero. Right To Dream is the best lyric Mariah has ever written. GTFO is the best song on Caution. The Wind is boring. Memoirs is the closest album to a follow up to Butterfly. Whitney held back on When You Believe because she knew MC in her 1998 voice couldn't keep up. Mariah is at fault for the Nicki Minaj beef. JLo had no idea about Firecracker and didn't deserve MC's smoke. Mariah and Eminem went on a few dates and messed around once. Mariah was embarrassed by her performance at Divas 98 and that's why she keeps hinting at Celine over singing in Aretha's presence. I think Type Dangerous is boring. I think Oh Santa is a great song because of its insane amount of energy. Mariah has potential as an actress. The performance of You and I for Stevie Wonder is boring. Mariah has had vocal problems since she left Tommy and maybe that sequestering her in the castle kept her very sensitive voice protected. At the present rate Mariah will sound like Dionne Warwick sounds now in her late 60s.

When Fantasy was released, I was not a fan. So shocking, I know. I bought the album because I absolutely adored OSD. These days I hardly listen to OSD while Fantasy is on repeat, lol. Isn't it ironic, don't you think? Same thing happened with Merry Christmas. I wasn't too keen on MC's gospel flavored album. I didn't buy MC until years later. Now I love getting up and dancing to Joy to the World.

Regarding only songs or albums, what are some unpopular opinions you all got? "Hero" still hasn't grown on me yet. "Thank God I Found You" was not #1 worthy and based on how many song I listen to from each album, Caution is my least favorite.

"I'll take a relaxed, dated sound to some of the junk that is supposed to be music or respectable vocal prowess these days, at any time." I completely agree. I just watched the charts yesterday on Deluxe music TV and it felt like "ear torture". The cheap videos were also not enjoyable. No wonder why so many youngsters are a little depressed when listening to garbage, that "modern" music has no heart and soul.

I don't like it. Here's the thing. I knew it would be a ballad from the 90s. I knew it would feel "crowded". And I do think it's genius how he interchanged them throughout the verses. I am a Mariah Carey fan and what's most important to me is a lyric. Then the vocal. Then the arrangement. The lyrics are both banal and generic. It's not a song that needed to be written. It's been written before. I feel as though this is one of the songs sung before a Super Bowl national anthem with young girls from around the world tryna count steps with lame choreography. It belongs at the end of a really bad movie where the credits are more entertaining than the plot. My favorite person on this board woke me up out my sleep with a text for this? It's just Another Trite Hope Song rackin my brain like crazy.

Agree. I was hoping for a whistle note going into the final chorus, sort of a cherry on top. Of course we are going to want MC to shine a bit more. However, MC fans need to recognize this is Barbara's [sic] song ft MC and AG. She is a guest artist. I like the song, its message. It's definitely a throw back to the early 90s for Mariah. Beautiful voices.

Clearly not a Mariah song but a pleasant surprise. She did her thing with the song she was given, wish we had more of her. Specially on the chorus. Makes me hopeful for the ballads on MC16.
In a weird way it made me appreciate TD more.

Agreed. It's nice to see her smiling again, enjoying the moment. I loved the Summertime Ball look. Beautiful. While the voice has changed, Mariah's talent has not. TD proves that she is capable of putting out a song with a solid video that doesn't require Emotions-like vocals to sell it. Well done, MC.

I don't think it's about confidence or the lack of it. Confidence alone doesn't magically produce a voice that's no longer there. At this point, it's clear she's not putting herself through that anymore. "The Voice" has always been the centerpiece, but as it's changed, her approach should too. I actually respect that she's working with whatever she has left, no more gimmicks, no wall of background vocals, no smoke and mirrors. Just as is. I think she should keep it simple and lean into the artistry that's still there. Like I said before, chart positions aren't the point anymore. What matters is the music. And right now, we've got a fresh single and a solid video, and that's good enough for me.

TD video thoughts (109,337)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
I watched the video, excited to finally find out the surprise. I finished the video and asked myself, did I miss something? Where was the big reveal? I find out it's some guy named MrBeast. Who? With two teenagers in my house, I'd like to think I've done pretty good at keeping up with current trends, popular public figures, etc. I'm glad I'm not the only one that was a bit let down at the surprise. Not nice to pop my balloon that way. That said, it's definitely a huge improvement from Mariah prancing around in a swimsuit or half naked, covering herself with a hat, I don't want to see her laying all over some dude in a car. I thought the storyline was funny, add her adlibs, and references to "I don't know him (her)", and Bianca was funny. Definitely a huge, huge improvement from past videos.

For the nostalgia (109,222)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
Taking the nostalgia route is on purpose, calculated. 20 years ago, the whole industry counted MC down for the count. After her public breakdown and ok reception of CB, folks were thinking this is it for MC. Then came TEOM, ILT, and of course WBT. As she said to BW during the Oscar's interviews, "They'll just have to count me back in." I think history is about to repeat itself.

So MC is clearly taking the [nostalgic] route here for promotion. Doubling the new era with the [Mimi] era, radio promos, It's Like That and Breakdown video references and now the Rakim rap feature on the BET performance (which was a huge step above what we've seen in the recent past). Does that mean he's on the actual remix as well? It made sense and she loves her old school rappers but I don't think a Rakim remix will be as commercially effective as one with a contemporary rapper. Still hoping for Doechii or Cardi but I know that's highly improbable. But I loved her appearances tonight and I can't wait for the video.

I agree. Mariah's already given us some iconic songs that dealt with her trauma from that marriage, "Side Effects" being the most powerful and raw in my opinion. At this point, still throwing shade at Tommy feels unnecessary. She already went through her metamorphosis with "Butterfly", and found a renewed IDGAF freedom with TEOM.
Lyrics that hint at Tanaka or Nick make more sense, they reflect more recent chapters in her life. But revisiting Tommy, decades later, feels a bit tired. She's 56, he's 76, it's time to "Shake It Off".
Or who knows, maybe she's just waiting for Tommy to clock out permanently so she can drop a song called "Dirty Coffin", reminiscing about how "important" his presence was in launching her career. Poetic closure, right?
