Rumoured lead singles (106,910)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
I've heard that "The One" was meant to be Charmbracelet's lead single:
I heard that "I'm That Chick" was meant to be E=MC2's first single from this album. (Brilliant if you're passing up the obvious popularity of Migrate. Lest sing together "Should have been a single".)
"The Art of Letting Go" for MIAM. (Powerful, after a divorce and having issues with her mom as she spoke in her memoir about. The simplicity of this ballet breaks my heart, cuts to my root, she's so clear and direct.)
Do we know of any other rumoured contenders for a lead singles of other albums aside from Charmbracelet, E=MC2 and MIAM?

Thanks for the fun game idea. Not necessarily my fave songs with that letter but the first that come to mine.

In the Mix (90,893)
by Pablo from Spain
| |
Many times, the first episodes (pilots) of shows don't have the theme song, as they're shot around 6 months before it will air, as they have to present the pilots to the networks and they don't spend money on the theme. I'm sure "In the Mix" will be on next week's episode in a truncated form.

Battle of the albums (75,857)
by Pablo from Spain
| |
I think I'm the only one who just doesn't like "Emotions". The title track is one of my least fave singles (I almost typed "least", but it is better than "I Don't"). While I love "Can't Let Go", "Make It Happen" and "So Blessed", the album just doesn't speak to me. The only album I like less from Mariah is "Memoirs". I love the self-titled debut. I love every song on it. So... I vote for Mariah Carey in the battle of the albums.

My second fave(s) (75,386)
by Pablo from Spain
| |
Mariah's been my fave since 1995. Before Mariah, my fave were The Judds so... haha. Currently my second fave is Lady Gaga, but Brand New, The Killers, Shania Twain and No Doubt were also contenders for second fave. Lady Gaga is the only one that comes close to Mariah for me though and still, Gaga doesn't come all that close. I also like Alanis Morissette a lot too. And Robbie Williams.

Age / signature song (75,334)
by Pablo from Spain
| |
I'm also 35. The message board has had various discussions on what Mariah's signature song is, and every time it has been decided that she has had various signature songs and no one song can be called it because she's had so many that could pass for it, unlike Whitney or Celine which is really obvious.

Re: Mariah's theme (56,452) (56,457)

This post came off as homophobic. Sorry, but I have to speak up and say something. No, Mariah nor no woman should be body shamed, but you also shouldn't insult people by insinuating that they are gay because being gay is fabulous and not an insult. As a gay male, I'd prefer Mariah keep them covered up, but I respect her decision to dress however she wants to dress. She is a beautiful woman, and more importantly, she is an incredibly gifted and talented singer and song writer.

Why You Mad? (55,859)
by Pablo from Spain
| |
I personally don't like it, but I would never call another person delusional for liking it. More power to the people who do like it as they have another song to groove to. People have different tastes, and no one should ever call anyone delusional or names for liking what they like. The world would be boring if everyone liked the same things. Even though it's not my cup of tea, for Mariah's sake, if it blows up the airwaves, great for her. If not, I'll be looking forward to her next album and continue to enjoy 25 years of her fantastic music in the meantime. There is too much negativity in the world for people to get this upset over a remix.

New layout (55,801)

I like the new layout. However, my one complaint is that I miss being able to read the message board on the front page and having them side by side. I know the webmaster put a lot of hard work into it and puts in a lot of hard work on a daily basis on this site, so thanks for that. I hadn't checked it out on my iPad yet, but on the laptop it looks great.

Other faves (55,385)
by Pablo from Spain
| |
Mariah is hands down my fave. The others in the quartet de awesomeness for me are Brand New, Lady Gaga and The Killers/Brandon Flowers. I also like Lifehouse, Enrique Iglesias, Robbie Williams, Shania Twain, Green Day, Blink 182, Matchbox Twenty, No Doubt (but not Gwen's solo stuff at all strangely enough), Wynonna/The Judds, The Smiths, Queen, Nelly Furtado, Alex Ubago, Caedmon's Call, Dashboard Confessional. So it's odd that Mariah is my absolute fave as I'm mostly a rock, punk and emo kind of boy. I do like some Janet and some Whitney, but neither are my faves. (I do like "No Sleeep".) I can't stand Beyonce or Katy Perry, but if they're fans of Mariah, at least they have some good taste. I still would love a duet between Mariah and Gaga, or Mariah and Brandon Flowers (The Killers are from Vegas), or Mariah and Enrique. I just started listening to Miguel's stuff outside of #Beautiful and am enjoying his new album.

My non-likes (55,206)
by Pablo from Spain
| |
Emotions, The Wind, Hero, Fourth of July, Bliss, Your Girl, Last Kiss, everything on Memoirs except Betcha Goin Know, Up Out My Face, H.A.T.E.U, Obsessed and Languishing (I love these five songs, the rest of the album puts me to sleep), Make It Look Good are my choices for ones most fans love but I don't really care for. I do like Always Be My Baby, but I think it's overrated as almost every time I say Mariah is my fave singer, I hear "Well I like 'Always Be My Baby'."

Top 3 #1s (53,629)
by Pablo from Spain
| |
1. Fantasy. I remember being in 8th grade and hearing a new song on the alarm clock radio, racing to the kitchen to listen to it on there, and knowing it was Mariah. Love at first listen with it. 2. My All. Not one of her more famous ones, but I love it all the same. I had goosebumps when I heard her perform it live in 2003. 3. Vision of Love/Someday. Two great songs that tied. We Belong Together would be 4 probably. My fave Mariah songs, however, are Breakdown and Side Effects. Sweetheart, another one of my faves (I have at least 100 fave Mariah songs I think) was filmed where I live now, Bilbao, by the way. When I moved here, I went looking for the places seen in the video.

Mariah's anniversary (51,159)
by Pablo from Spain
| |
I wished Mariah a happy anniversary on Twitter, hope she sees it. I don't post much, but I've been reading this board since 2000 or so. Anyway, do you do anything special to celebrate Mariah's anniversary? I always listen to every one of her songs I have on my iPod during March and only listen to her on March 27. I got a late start this year, and since my iPod starts with the most recent, I'm only on Glitter. Even my least favourite albums of hers (Memoirs and Emotions) have some amazing songs (H.A.T.E.U/Up Out My Face/Languishing for Memoirs and Can't Let Go/Make It Happen/So Blessed on Emotions).

If Nick is talking about Mariah, I understand and agree with posting of the articles. If he's just spouting about his mouth and no Mariah mention, I'd rather not know anything about this jerk. Looking forward to the new tracks on the new Ones and hoping for an Epic future for Mariah on the label.

Gaga and signature song (48,715)
by Pablo from Spain
| |
I'm so excited to have a pic of my two fave singers together. I would love a Mariah and Gaga duet. Both are extremely talented women and both are super misunderstood. Both New Yorkers. It could work. Anyway, I asked on a message board I post at what non-fans would consider her signature song. (I usually just lurk here, have been lurking here since 1999.) The results: Always Be My Baby, Vision Of Love, All I Want For Christmas, Hero and One Sweet Day. So that might be saying a lot if non-fans can't even decide on what it is. She has too many hits and too many good songs for just one signature song. For me, it'd have to be Fantasy or AIWFC, but my faves are Breakdown and Side Effects.

iPod Blue for Mariah (44,771)
by Pablo from Spain
| |
So the gay guide to Bilbao (northern Spain) has a list of 10 new songs for the month, and it has "Meteorite" at #10 on the list. It has a comment that either this or "You Don't Know What to Do" need to be a single now before the album is completely forgotten. Just excited to see Mariah mentioned as she is more or less only known as "Didn't she have that Christmas song 20 years ago?" in Spain unfortunately. Anxious as everyone else to see some more promotion for the album. Also, I think I must be the only one who loves E=MC2, it's my second fave album of Mariah's after Butterfly. "Side Effects" is my second fave song after "Breakdown". Love "Migrate" and "I Wish You Well." It's probably the album of hers I listen to most today, other than MIAMTEC, which is still listened to because it's new. I love MIAMTEC, but E=MC2 will always be one of my faves.

Vine (42,503)
by Pablo from Spain
| |
The Vine thing was cute, yes. But it's really annoying to have things that automatically play when people are doing other things while reading the forum. I mean, I'm trying to stream "You're Mine (Eternal)" here. It's not the video I thumbs downed, it's the fact it automatically plays on a loop, scares me half to death every time I read the forums page and will until it goes to the next page, and interferes with the music or movies I have going while reading this page. [Webmaster: Mea culpa. I thought it was fun to watch the video directly. But I thought I disabled the autoplay-function. Originally it was only a link.]

Tennessee (42,367)
by Pablo from Spain
| |
To totally change the subject, yesterday I watched Tennessee for the first time to celebrate Mariah's anniversary. Mariah did an awesome job, although the movie got kind of long for only being 1 hour and 40 minutes (not her fault). Right To Dream remains one of my fave songs. I had almost forgotten all about this movie. So glad I got the time to see it. Mariah is underrated as an actress, but I do prefer her singing, of course.

First time I heard Mariah (42,333)
by Pablo from Spain
| |
I had heard a few songs from Mariah, but nothing had really caught hardcore with me. Then, being 11-12 during the Music Box ever, I had heard "Dreamlover" and "Hero" so much that I still don't like those songs. Then she released Without You and I loved it. I couldn't stop listening to it. Then that Christmas came along with AIWFC and then the next year Fantasy. I remember getting so excited when my clock radio woke up one day and I heard "Fantasy". I knew it was Mariah before they said so. Ever since, she's been my fave. Antonio, since you're from Spain and I've been living here six years (now in Bilbao where she filmed Sweetheart), do you know if she's ever had a number one song on 40 Principales? I haven't heard "You're Mine" yet here. I didn't know Through The Rain was number one.
