Specific lyric on Obsessed (106,860)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
Since it's kinda quiet, on the Gucci Mane version of Obsessed, probably the original version too, there is an adlib I cannot understand and it's bothered me for years. She says "He's all up in my George Foreman." Then there's some more singing and then she repeats "He's all up in my George Foreman." And she starts "But I-' I can't for the life of me figure out what she's saying. It's before she says "You like me. You like me. You really really like me" as the song fades. The lyric sites are saying, she is saying, "But I can't do nothing for him." That is not what she's saying. Anybody have any ideas?

More Taylor (106,310)
by Chris from United States

|
|
My disclaimer is that I could care less about Bey or Tay and don't hold any allegiance to either of these chicks. This white supremacy claim can be taken to the alley, and left for pickup next day. Bey has had mad success for the last 5 years or so, where it's been sickening. That was her time, and now is just Tay's time whether we like it or not. Honestly, this is just as sickening, but here we are.
For you to sit here before us and tell us not to put certain names together in a sentence suggests that you feel a sense of superiority or entitlement, when we are simply having a discussion. Yes, a discussion where not everyone agrees, but just because you don't agree with them, you run about having a temper tantrum - it's laughable. Using the race card to assert your dominance on this topic is actually quite low, to be honest. The queen of poetic lyricism has had her decade in the sun, and deservedly so. For some reason, people dig this mediocre Taylor writing (who still acts like she's 15) but who am I? Who are you?
Yes, Taylor does write her own material; some really good stuff, and a lot being just silly. These words are hers and from her own mind - therefore, making her a writer. Just because it's white, or something you don't agree with, doesn't mean you can't simply say her name in the same sentence as Mariah, or that other girl, Beyoncé. This is just coming off as immature.
I am just glad I got to witness one of the greatest writers with one of the greatest voices dominate for a whole decade. It's a shame MC won't release much today, outside of Christmas, prob due to the landscape and where people's minds are (Taylor idolization). But, I know Mariah is the OG, and paved the way for many artists like Swift. Oh crap, did I just mention their names in the same sentence?

More Taylor (106,308)
by Tony Lorenzo from UK
| |
|
|
Sorry if I came off aggressive. I just hate that Taylor had been brought up here, as though there is any need for even the comparison. Countless singers write their own songs. Bringing them into the convo together compares the two by default, and I find that is an insult to Mariah.
The main reason Taylor is where she is lets be honest, is white supremacy. She is being lionised and lovesd cynically by a bunch of adults in the media industry, when in fact she's a singer for teenybopping teenage girls who does not deserve to be taken as seriously as she is. She fits their model of skinny, blonde and white and is thus the perfect emblem, talent or no talent.
They basically use her to bring Beyonce down a peg or two. Beyonce is the biggest star of the moment in terms of talent and output, and they are pushing Taylor to get her sales and revenue to surpass Beyonce so that we can't say a black woman is the biggest star on earth. It is disingenuous and obvious, and I would expect more people to have seen through it.
Beyonce's tour sells in record numbers so they do everything they can to hype Swift so that her numbers are bigger. They won't allow a black woman to be on "top" and to push that into our faces, they've made sure the new star represents everything they say is the standard of excellence. When we can all see and hear how utterly ridiculous it is. It is a form of gaslighting.
Taylor Swift is one of the most mediocre artists I've ever heard. The lyrics are basic and for little girls to pretend they have dramatic relationships they don't actually have, her voice is no better than completely average, and barely that. She can't dance. Her chords are badic, but they ser the benefit in showing her with the guitar because it adds authenticity and cements that she is a "musician". Fine. But a mediocre one.
That is why even bringing her up on a Mariah message board annoys me. We're talking about one of the literal greatest artists of all time and then dragging her down with reference to someone who is just being used to gaslight everyone especially black people. They are so fsr removed from each other that even vaguely acknowledging Swift is a writer is annoying.
Lastly, Beyonce writes more of her lyrics than you think. We should know as music lovers rhar RnB is renowned for samping, both words and sounds. These samples have to be credited. Beyonce uses many samples. That does not mean she doesn't write lyrics. It just means that multiple people get a credit on a song, if she merely uses a word or line or production sound from another song. Black music has always had a referential element to it. We can't say Beyonce isn't a proper curator of her own music just because she samples a lot. We know this because she had a specific sound herself across all her music. If it was the case everyone else wrote her stuff and she merely added a word her collection if music would sound sound radically eclectic, and it doesn't. Beyonce is very clearly there in all her music. To denigrate her while conceding Swift is a writer is to me insane and proof that media manipulation works on simple minds. Sorry.

General public or bad decisions (105,665)
by Chris from United States

You just said that she was happy during I Don't, and now you say she wasn't happy during the Stella era. This was all one long run-on era. This woman didn't know what she was doing, and let that maniac take full control and fly the damn plane. Notice how she mentions nothing during this era? She doesn't even acknowledge that Takaka dude. He vanished and made some irrelevant statements. She hasn't said spit, which tells me it was either all fake, or she completely regrets that moment, and placed it in the Stella bin.

Tanaka (104,682)
by BFF from United States
| |
|
|
Moving forward, I think Mariah needs to date people closer to her own age and who don't give off the "fanboy" vibes. This is the second time that a relationship with someone significantly younger than her hasn't worked out. Nick and Tanaka both always came off as very adolescent and starstruck about Mariah. Mariah needs someone to be an equal partner, not a fawning admirer. I'm not sure she would like a partner like that, but it's what we all need.
It wasn't realistic for Tanaka to expect to have children with someone who is divorced with two pre-teen children in her early to mid 50s. They should have ended the relationship a while ago if that was an expectation. Tanaka is also 40 years old himself. I'm not sure I buy the "he wants kids" argument.
Maybe Mariah just got bored?

Wow Todd, you just said what I've been thinking. Not sure if you're just joking or not, but I've wanted her to do a cover of "Nothing Else Matters" for the longest time. This song fits her lyrically and just the way the song is structured and produced makes so much sense. Oh well, a boy can dream.

Now this is getting interesting; there are folks on here who obsess about what color Mariah's farts are, who are talking politics, pointing fingers, placing blame, and continue with their hate parade (which can often be about Mariah herself). You know nothing about the inner workings of politics, and whatever you think you know is as good as what's in your toilet.
People need not focus on hate, rather they should be washing their hands and their emotions, because your personal hate and discord (which no one cares about) is only contributing to the fuel that's already been set on this world.

This would be a terrible idea. I mean, I would love to know and all, but it’s just not going to happen. She has already launched a few torpedoes at her career, and this wouldn’t make it any better. Can you imagine, Mariah can’t sing? Everybody would have a field day on her, and she’d never hear the end of it. Some things are just better off unsaid.

When my husband came home from work yesterday, he told me that one of his assistants was saying that Mariah sounded horrible during her performance, and that she should just quit already. I'm pretty sure it's safe to say God's got MC's back, lol.

I'm not quite sure I've ever heard anyone call a straight man a "queen." So, I don't see you calling a heterosexual a name that can be used in a deragatory fashion, towards gay men. If you wanted to personally attack him, at least admit it. Also, it is Mariah or her team's job to create a don't ask list, and present it to him. Obviously, they didn't construct one; so the man, I mean the "queen" was just doing what he does, on that show.

What in the world are you smoking? Yay, she managed to answer one question, for the first time in so long (so you say). Down to earth? I'm sorry, but having your implants on display, and being covered in diamonds is hardly down to earth. Conservative? Once again, having your chest exposed like that isn't conservative at all, and you could see her cleavage as she was sitting; as a matter of fact, I believe I've seen some side boob. But, I loved how she went on and on, rambling about her stripping of the robe, as if we gave a damn to hear that much about it. Were we even watching the same program? I love MC as much as everyone here, but I can at least be honest with myself.

May, it was during her SSFT that a fan was very disappointed by his so called meet and greet with her. This person paid hundreds of dollars, got all dolled up, and prepared for this moment. When that moment came, their experience was for only 10 seconds. They weren't even happy about the photo that was taken. I'll just sit back now, and wait or someone to complain that I shouldn't be talking about this topic.

No, that is where you're wrong. Freedom of speech doesn't just stop just because it does't fit your narrative, or agenda. I've praised her to high heaven to anyone that's dogged her in person, so that means that as a disgruntled fan I can chime in about that as well, and call her out on her missteps and trip ups. As (gay) fans, we've bought her singles, albums, perfumes, concert tickets and merchandise, and now we've awarded her as an ally. We've helped keep her career alive, even when she went home and abandoned her career. You're absolutely out of your mind to say that we can't voice what's on our minds. You cannot tell me what to think, feel, and say as long as I've been standing here for her, for over 20 years. Oh, and if you want to talk about getting lives, maybe you should take your own advice. Just because someone has a differing opinion than you, doesn't mean you can just shut them down. I don't even post here much, so it's not like I'm here bashing her daily.

Believe it or not, I have a right to my opinion and will voice it, if and when I please. But here, let me sprinkle some fairy dust for you guys, seeing that that's what you all love. Mariah does nothing wrong, she is perfect, she should just get a bunch of awards "just because she's Mariah" (found that laughable), and we are all learning from her. Radio silence for days, no excuse (63,420)
by Chris from United States
| |
|
|
MC has always had a special place in my heart and I've been giving her free passes for the last couple of years, but I'm not just taking this lying down. I've given her the benefit of the doubt for cheating fans of their meet and greets, videos that imply she is cheating on her fiancé, acting childish with feuds, nipples popping, and lack of appreciation for fans. But, I won't sit here and pretend it's alright that she chose to pay dust to this huge tragedy, for as long as she has. You're damn right, that 20 second clip of her saying she's praying for people isn't enough, especially when she had to be prompted first, I'm sure. Yes, she has kids, a billionaire finance, singing, drinking, and partying with Russian leeches. Of course, her head is in a different place than it was 10 years ago, when she was still somewhat relatable. Why is it too much to ask, for this woman who was just awarded as a gay ally, to take 5 minutes out of her pants dropping schedule, to just show one iota of appreciation for this award. Honestly, I probably wouldn't give a rats ass about her two cents, if she had not accepted that GLAAD award. Is it so bad to hold someone accountable for what they say they stand for? I don't think so, and for those that combat with, "What good would a little tweet do?" Do you know what not saying anything does? It makes you Omar Mateen. Saying something can make a difference, because her voice catches the ears to millions of people. As someone mentioned earlier, I will probably get over this, but might think twice, before purchasing flight, hotel, and concert tickets to see her. Marisa is right, there is no excuse for this.
