Mariah revealed as unlikely ambassador for hostel brand

It seems the world's most notorious diva has ditched her posh ways for a humble hostel getaway - or at least she has in booking platform Hostelworld's latest campaign. In the three-minute short film that debuted earlier today, the singer can be seen swanning into the reception area of hostel Casa Gracia in Barcelona, accompanied by a small entourage.

While initially furious at being booked into a hostel, soon enough the singer is hopping into elevators with shirtless teeth-brushing backpackers, exploring private rooms, and even glamming up for a performance at the on-site cocktail bar, where the singer finally settles into her diva groove (cue glittery gowns and underlings holding up hair fans and releasing live doves).

It's all part of a PR bid to show off Hostelworld's high standards, and remedy outdated misconceptions around hostels being dirty, unsafe and uncomfortable. Global Head of Brand at Hostelworld Marek Mossakowski said many people still don't realise just how much hostels have changed over the past decade. "Now they've got all the facilities you'd expect from expensive accommodation, but with an affordable price and with a ready-made community of like-minded travellers to share experiences with."

The singer - who's more accustomed to her $45,000-a-month mansion than a $55-a-night hostel - was an obvious choice for the diva campaign, titled "Even divas are believers". Commenting on the film, the singer managed to see the funny side of being selected for the campaign, joking: "For some reason, someone thought it would be funny to book me in a hostel. To mine and everyone's surprise, the hostel was fabulous! It was super clean, modern and spacious. I say give hostels a go."

The campaign comes off the back of HostelWorld's findings that 50 percent of Australians recognise they have diva traits while travelling, from demanding a private bathroom to taking their own pillow with them on trips away. To the booking platform's credit, the hostel featured in the ad campaign looks every bit up to snuff.

A former modernist mansion with soaring ceilings, parquet floors, chic furnishings and beautiful arched doorways, the Casa Gracia shares a postcode with Casa Batlló and an array of high-end shops, offering a mixture of private multi-room suites and more budget-friendly modern dorms, to suit different diva spectrums.
