Mariah Carey will be questioned under oath

Superstar Mariah Carey will be questioned under oath over her brother's claims that she lied about him in her autobiography, according to reports.

Carey, 55, will be deposed January 17 by her brother's lawyers - with the singer required to appear in person for the filmed interview, the Sun reported.

Her estranged brother, Morgan Carey, sued her in 2021 over claims that she lied about him in her 2020 bio, "The Meaning of Mariah Carey".

The supposed lies include claims that he was violent toward her and their family, that he dealt drugs in the 1980s while working at a New York City nightclub and that he'd spent time in prison.

"I was a little girl with very few memories of a big brother who protected me," Carey - who has described Morgan as her "ex-brother" - wrote in the book.

"More often, I felt I had to protect myself from him, and sometimes I would find myself protecting my mother from him too."

Carey also alluded to her brother's alleged drug deals by claiming Morgan "discreetly supplied the beautiful people with their powdered party favors", which his lawyers said was an obvious reference to cocaine.

He denied such claims, calling them "false and defamatory", and said they caused him "emotional distress" and "serious damage" to his image.

"He is by no means envious of his sister's enormous artistic and personal success, has enjoyed his own successes both professional and personal and has always wished her well," his attorneys said, according to the Sun.

The pop superstar has insisted that everything in her book is true, while a judge dismissed portions of the lawsuit after it was filed.

The siblings have had a fraught relationship for years, reportedly having not spoken since about 1994.

And it's not just Morgan who has a bone to pick with the "All I Want for Christmas Is You" singer: Their late sister Alison, who died at 63 in August, also sued over Carey's claims of her "pimping" out and drugging Mariah when she was 12.

The "Fantasy" singer has also denied those accusations.
