By this point, it's no longer surprising that Mariah Carey returns to charts globally every year. The superstar's catalog, which is filled with smash hits, includes one holiday classic, which has become an annual staple of the jolliest time of the year. It's not shocking that the tune is back, but the fact that its return has started so early is a little unusual.
Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" is a chart hit again in the U.K. as of this week. The single doesn't start small or slow, though. Instead, the cut reappears on four rankings at the same time, and it's already a top 40 smash on one of them... and this is certainly just the beginning for another annual surge.
"All I Want For Christmas Is You" lands highest across the pond on the Official Streaming chart, which ranks the most-streamed tunes in the United Kingdom. It makes sense that Carey's carol would perform best on that list - at least at first - as it means that people are turning to Spotify, Apple Music, and the like to hear the happy tune.
The same inescapable cut is a bestseller again in the U.K., though it's not the top performer just yet. "All I Want For Christmas Is You" returns to the Official Singles Downloads chart at No. 68. It comes in a few rungs lower on the Official Singles Sales list, where it's currently present at No. 74.
"All I Want For Christmas Is You" even performed well enough to make an appearance on the main ranking of the most-consumed singles in the country. Carey is back at No. 58 on that tally, and it will absolutely rocket up that roster in the coming weeks, as it does every year.
Carey's bestseller has reached No. 1 on three of the four charts it reaches this time around. So far, it has yet to lead the Official Singles Sales ranking, which is a bit shocking, considering how well it's performed throughout the decades - and how many millions of copies it has sold. Could "All I Want For Christmas Is You" finally make it to the throne on that list this season? There's no telling, but betting against Carey, especially at this time of the year, is not advisable.
