Mariah fans to sign contract that protects her if they die

Mariah Carey asks fans taking part in her new reality show to sign a contract which protects her from being sued even if they die during filming. The legal document - which Biz on Sunday has a copy of - also gives permission for the series to portray participants "in a fictional manner with a different voice".

Guests were stunned to be handed the two-page dossier at the after-party for the UK leg of the legendary singer's Sweet, Sweet Fantasy tour on Wednesday, where filming was taking place. It states that YOLO Productions, with whom Mariah is working as an executive producer for the E! show, is not legally responsible even in the event of a "tortious act, invasion of privacy, infliction of emotional distress, wrongful death... or defamation".

While no one was forced to sign on the dotted line, many seemed to do so without reading the small print, believing it was the only way they could enter the bash to meet their idol. A guest said: "Most of Mariah's fans are so obsessed they always joke that they'd die if they met her but this is taking it one step too far."

"Nobody was paying attention to what they were signing. People could get a bit of a shock if they turn up on her reality show coming across totally differently to how they normally are. It's a bit sneaky. Clearly there's nothing that goes on during filming that could result in injury, let alone death - this is Hollywood lawyers literally asking people to sign their life away."

Mariah has been filming the eight-part documentary during the last few months. It is set to show her as she tours across Europe with twins Moroccan and Monroe and plans her wedding to billionaire Australian business mogul James Packer. But we wonder just how much reality the series will show.
