"Ballads do not chart anymore." I don't think so. Adele's "Someone like you" or "Hello" are just two examples. The songs dominated the charts for weeks. If a song is outstanding it will work. No rappers and beats are needed. But a Disco Mariah would be cool. Like the new Rainbow mix.

Please no more ballads. Her discography has way too many as it is. Since the 2000s when they've tried to launch Mariah albums with a ballad and they all flopped (TTR, YM, and WY). Ballads do not chart anymore. People these days want bops, not ballads. They launched Caution with With You and the label only sent it to adult ac and urban ac. They didn't even bother to send it to major radio formats because they knew no one would play it. They figured they could get an Adult Comtempory hit and it didn't even top the formats it was sent to. AC was popular in the early 90s and as the 90s progressed, less and less ballads topped the charts. That's why acts like Boys II Men flopped 97 onwards as the continued to release ballads as singles instead of getting with the times and incorporating hip hop and uptempos. She needs to do something she has never done and that's an all up tempo album. All of her uptempos have traditionally stayed at the top longer than her ballads as they usually came and went. Her uptempo remixes for [Anytime you need a friend] were gaining traction in the UK but the label didn't support those remixes because they didn't want her seen as a disco diva. I think she could have sold more units of Music Box had the label released more uptempos. Anytime You Need a Friend and Without You are some of her best ballads and they failed to hit #1 but Dreamlover topped the charts for 8 consecutive weeks.

I remember that Boyz II Men were at number one on the US charts in 97 with "4 seasons of loneliness". I think Mariah was at number one with "Without you" in Germany and many other countries in Europe. That song was so huge, it still gets more airplay here than "Dreamlover". But I understand what you mean. Personally I don't care for the charts anymore. It would be wonderful if Mariah had another hit. But I would prefer just good music. A hit or not.

I am hopeful MC does go back to her roots on MC16. It would be nice for her to have a pop ballad that goes #1 on the Hot 100, is used in a commercial, and wins a Grammy for Song of the Year. If she just gives us that one last raw organic pop performance like If It's Over, then we all would be happy. Who cares about her current vocal state at this point? She can stll sing better than any current female artist right now.

I was just listening to Music Box and Emotions in the gym, and it got me thinking why Mariah never returned to doing a mainly ballad album with a few uptempo numbers. Yes she likes RnB but that doesn't mean it has to be your main focus for the rest of your career. Those types of albums worked for her and it's a shame she got stuck in the same RnB vibe for so long. Going back to a ballad album and then next album after that could have been more RnB. Do you think it's more to do with proving to Tommy that she can make it no matter what? I just think it would have been nice for her to experiment a bit more over the years, show us she's still got that soul sound she had on Emotions and the heart wrenching lyrics of Music Box. Just seems to me she made up her mind to break away from what she was and take a completely new direction and leave her core fan base behind. I'm grateful for the music we've had over the years but it would have been nice and I think beneficial to her career/likability with the general public had she not complete abandoned the image and music she was most famous for. Give us back that Soul influenced, Gospel loving Mariah that we knew and mix it with some RnB and you will have some happy lambs. I get she was affected by Tommy but that was 28 years ago now. Yes she's had some great success since but the diva show and lackluster songs are not working for her anymore. Surely she must see that. She always reflects on the great early days of her career in a positive way now, she needs to dig deep into herself and bring out the caring likeable lady she once was.

Great thoughts Jamie. For the post I would give you hundreds thumbs up. "Give us back that Soul influenced, Gospel loving Mariah that we knew and mix it with some RnB and you will have some happy lambs." I would be very happy with it. I listened to "MIAMTEC" yesterday, somehow it is my least favourite album by Mariah. Also I love "Make it look good", "The art of letting go" and "Meteorite". But "Emotions" and "Music Box" are outstanding and unmatched until today. But I do believe Mariah will surprise us all, maybe next year. I hope so.

I think most of us like to stick the label of "lazy" on Mariah for all that we see that's not going right with her shows these days. I think something definitely has happened over the years to change her so drastically from who she was as a performer. Even though she was nowhere near her 90's performance mode, up until Caution she still put a lot of energy into her shows. The fact that she still continues to tour is her decision that I will not judge her for. It's basic demand and supply. All I'd say is yes, lose the male dancers please and get a better stylist for the shows.

Auto cue (107,121)

I'm just watching morning television here in the UK. The singer Tony Christie is on who's talking about his early signs of dementia. He's mentioning he has to now use autocue quite heavily now due to this. He always used it as most do but now relies on it.
It got me thinking about Mariah, whilst she is a lot younger than Tony, over the past couple of years she has been also relying heavily on her autocue. Is there a medical reason for this with Mariah also? I'm sure her bipolar meds don't help but she will have been on these for years since 2001 I'm sure. So now why the sudden change?

The girl who lipped wolf (107,120)
by Edward from USA

Celine has never jumped on any trend wagon. Stating facts is not idolizing her. She has managed to maintain a likable image ever since she entered the music scene by being herself. She hasn't shied away from showing us her human side, making her relatable.
I consider myself part of Mariah's core fanbase, but I'm realistic. If Mariah were more dynamic on stage and did more than just stand there and lip-sync, people wouldn't mind as much whether she's singing live. It was acceptable when she could still carry a tune, but now she should compensate for her vocal limitations by putting more effort into her performances and updating her tired productions. She should drop those male dancers and revitalize her shows.

Let's not go overboard with the sudden Celine worship. She has always been ripped apart for her artistry and seen as the lest cool of the divas up until she became a fashion icon. Why do you all make it seem like Mariah was obsessed with #1 hits? Which popular artist isn't keeping an eye on the charts? Celine was chart watching just all of them were in their prime.

Merry Christmas anniversary want list (107,119)
by Robert-Anthony from United States

Album sales have been poor for artists like Normani whose album was delayed after multiple delays for two years along with singles that were lackluster. Dua Lipa's three singles failed to make the top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and they were just lackluster in terms of her previous singles from Physical. Plus, Taylor dominated the singles and album charts for 4 months causing fans and record shops to keep her on top on the charts.

Okay, but Cher announced her Christmas in early September. I always refer to Metacritic's new album list for each month. Billboard just released their new album list for August-October. There is not one Christmas album listed for October. At least there would be somebody major on the list for October. Maybe no one wants to release a Christmas album this year because so many albums flopped from Dua Lipa to Normani to Camila Cabello. I think MC has Christmas this year without any distractions like what happened with Brenda Lee.

I was just thinking again today as I prepare to return to my long work days this week. We all know MC is just not going out on a 20 city tour without some huge Merry Christmas album surprises to support the tour and the Merry Christmas 30th anniversary. As far as I can find with my research, no one else is releasing a new Christmas album this year. So, MC just may do extremely well this Christmas season.

I think Vegas is a cheaper way to stay in one place rather than traveling around to perform. So she’s adding more dates depending on the demand at the time in Vegas. If Mariah was seeing a decline in her accounts and needed more money we would be seeing a lot more side projects. She would still be releasing songs even though money is not in music that much anymore, but she would still bank on some sort of cash. I also think she would be open to more duets, movie rolls, or even doing another fast food promotion like with McDonalds a few years ago lol.

Yes, it seems the super rich people always fear to loose their money and lifestyle. I would be happy with 1 million euro. I'm humble. Lol. I would travel around the world and that's it. But I wouldn't need luxury. For me to have a good time is more luxeus than a new car or expensive brands. And of course health is the most important thing. But back to Mariah and Vegas. What Robert-Anthony assumed is sounding nice. Gigs for the band and dancers. Will Trey be in Vegas too? I love that he and Mariah are still on stage together. Their "chemistry" is wonderful.

I don't have any sources or receipts but maybe these residencies are to pay current bills and she only does the shows she needs at the time. She's probably miserable so it's like, "Ok add 5 more dates to get us through until the Christmas shows then after we'll be fine till March." I'm not saying Mariah is broke, because she's not. I think she's doing this for the massive overhead it costs to live her present lifestyle. Mariah please carry your own umbrella and stay at the Red Roof. This is not worth the pain under the Botox. I kid. I kid.

Celine was smart, she never focused too much on achieving number-one hits, yet she managed to earn widespread respect. She has always been consistent, endearing herself to fans and the general public alike. Like Barbra, she has maintained a loyal core fanbase that she can always rely on. Although she doesn't sell as many albums as she once did, she continues to sell concert tickets, and they are certainly not cheap.
One thing about Celine is that she's a true performer and entertainer; she never just stands there, and she can walk without help.

Merry Christmas anniversary want list (107,110)

I was just thinking again today as I prepare to return to my long work days this week. We all know MC is just not going out on a 20 city tour without some huge Merry Christmas album surprises to support the tour and the Merry Christmas 30th anniversary. As far as I can find with my research, no one else is releasing a new Christmas album this year. So, MC just may do extremely well this Christmas season.

No thanks. No one is asking for this. There is no more juice in this fruit. The only thing I'd want released is a poster, the St. John the Divine concerts out in streaming (including Hero), and the r&b/video version of Miss You Most (At Christmas Time) added to streaming. I need to know what is planned for Daydream 30 - I have a feeling it's not much
