Mariah unimpressed as Nicki is late for first live show

We thought that Mariah Carey was meant to be the worlds biggest diva, but when the first live show of this year's American Idol series aired last night, she was there, in her seat, on the panel but someone else was missing. Nicki Minaj must be taking a leaf out of Justin Bieber's book, because as the show went on air the "Starships" hitmaker was nowhere to be seen and while she may not have taken two hours to get to the stage like her young pal, she did arrive 13 minutes late for the launch of the live singing performances.

Nicki blamed bad traffic for her hold up - yet all the other judges, presenters and staff managed to make it on time - and host Ryan Seacrest mocked her tardiness as he opened the episode with the line: "We are coming to you live and on time. Say hello to three of your four judges who have made it here on time."

Ryan then took the weight off his feet and rested in Minaj's chair, while he spoke to her fellow judges. He explained that the busty singer was caught in a traffic jam somewhere and explained: "So this is where Nicki sits. I hear she is seven minutes out and there is some congestion on the 405 Freeway, she should be here momentarily."

Randy Jackson clearly wasn't convinced by her excuse and teased: "I heard it was the 101 Freeway." "Which one of you gave Nicki the wrong directions today? Which one of you drained the fuel from her car?" Ryan giggled. Keith Urban looked confused by the whole thing and was reticent to speak and while we expected Nicki's long time rival Mariah Carey to take this opportunity to slam the star, she simply shook her head in disbelief and rolled her eyes as the show got underway.

Minaj did finally reach the studios, but she didn't have time to don her finery for the show and appeared wearing a casual black hoody and sunglasses to cover the fact that her makeup had been a rush job no doubt. The singer missed the first performance of the show, but later told her followers on Twitter: "Stuck in traffic *sighs*," before adding: "F*** you Malibu *moves to Beverly Hills*." Weird, we don't see the word sorry in there at all.
