As if the average listener could actually tell the difference between the version that got released and the one she wanted. But that was the perfectionist version of Mariah minus a pill or two.

Hahah I wonder if ISIL video was an attempt to make a [Breakdown] sequel. It has the similar story setting in Vegas, Mariah's a show girl, she's heartbroken, it's a beat ballad and so on. Although Breakdown song and video remains one of her best to date. I also didn't get the point of her blowing up the car haha. It's all too much. Mariah is an arsonist on the low with setting her car on fire and then her dress in "I Don't".

Refresh my memory please, did Taylor ever drop a demo version for that first? I can't remember, I didn't use to keep up with TS back then. But I remember her name being in the mix along with Beyoncé about who Mariah could be referring to. I know even later down the line people said she copied Mariah's "from the vault" visual. Where originally Mariah did some "from the vault" release and then Taylor used a similar visual for her re-record series? But Covid wiped out my memory so clearly I am missing chunks.

Haha I think even as a lamb that would have been too much for me. It baffles me why a story teller like Mariah has such weak videos. Speaking of JD, I am reminded of the Facebook TAOLG release and how it ended up being the wrong version and Mariah wrote her iconic "I'm on the bathroom floor" meltdown post.

I'm not saying it was a horrible video, but it certainly wasn't a good one either. Unless your idea of good visuals is the cliché of a woman prancing around and touching herself in a car. "I Don't" was the last decent standalone track she's released since "Triumphant" though.

Robert Anthony you are the voice of unwavering optimism on this board and I'm sorry you can't just abandon your role like a Mariah cookie. Yes her business side seems to be pretty ambiguous but we are barely a week into January. She has plenty of time to get her shit together and give us MC16 this fall.

I don't think she's hanging out with Anderson [.Paak] just for us to discuss their chemistry. They are cooking something. Her not having a contract/label is probably the reason we are not hearing much about MC16. She has repeatedly said it is coming. I believe once things fall into place she will be motivated enough to finish it off.

I don't think I Don't is MC's worst video as you are eluding to it being. Imagine 13 videos of I Stay In Love directed by Nick. I hate that video. I have only seen Daisy Duke travels to Las Vegas, but her car breaks down in the desert one time. Lol. I was not impressed with that video treatment. What were MC and Nick thinking?

I agree, Mariah couldn't have pulled off something like that. Imagine 13 "I Don't" type of videos and then, for the grand finale, a half-naked mermaid moment. That would've been career suicide. Thank God she had JD to guider her.

Oh my gosh yes you're right "it's all coming back to me now" hahah. I remember that, and I was thinking wait was MC really going to drop a surprise album like that's ambitious because look I love Mariah and she'll always be my #1 but she didn't have the pull to do a drop like that. Also if it was the other point of a "visual album", did we need 10-15 videos of Mariah looking beautiful and caressing herself hahah. it just didn't make sense to me at that time or even now. Beyonce's project was extremely ambitious and each of her videos were really well thought out (I may not love all of them but they were quite impressive nonetheless). So ya Mariah needs to spill the tea.

At that time, the rumors were heavily hinting at Beyonce. She did two things no mainstream artist had done before: 1. She released an overnight, critically acclaimed, very successful surprise concept album and 2. Every track on that album came with its own video. Nothing else happening in music during that period was significant or relevant enough for Mariah to go on panic mode, confiscating portable electronic devices and putting blinders in the studio.

I was just 10 back then though, so maybe I missed some major events, so don't quote me on it.

Shezz, I am starting think that we will not be getting a new album or single this year. I have had that feeling all week because something just seems off with the whole business side of MC's career. MC has not talked much lately about who her manager is or what label she is on. If an artist is under a recording contract, doesn't he or she has to deliver an album within a certain time frame.

It is funny that you mentioned Taylor's retro Polaroids. I have those in a yellow photo sleeve. They were included with the deluxe version of her 1989 album that I found at Goodwill. I have been thinking about selling them on Ebay. Lol. They have to be worth at least $15.00 right now.

Oh yes the greatest mystery that was never solved. I remember Taylor Swift and Beyoncé's name coming up as the people who stole the concept but I can't remember what the theories were. One I think had to do with T Swift's 1989 having the retro polaroids promo strategy (I honestly can't remember what the theory was because I don't remember MIAM having similar strategy). If anyone remembers do share.

I agree with Edward on the two points.
- I think we are seeing no photos because she hasn't been in the studio much or at all really. We've been hearing the same "I have 10 songs but I haven't recorded the vocals yet" for like 2 years now.
- I don't know what she is waiting for. Any idea she has now may not be relevant in a few years time because the music industry is constantly evolving and music trends change. Plus unfortunate as it is, age is a factor and the longer she waits the smaller her target audience becomes.
We don't need another "starting from scratch after scrapping all ideas" which will mean we'll get an album in 2030 haha.

I last remember seeing studio pics for MIAMTEC. Did she have any for Caution? I think Caution didn't have any studio pics posted. I think she stopped for two main reasons - first being around MIAM when she claimed her entire concept was stolen/lifted by another artist (who was that?). And secondly because she really doesn't want to get the lambs all worked up about an album that's been delayed over and over for whatever reason. Robert Anthony, when do you think she will drop a single (and when do you think she should)? I love hearing your theories and manifestations.

Edward, do you really think it's deeper than Poo Bear having a big mouth? I just can't believe MC is just writing songs in her journal and not going into the studio to lay down vocals. Maybe you are right, MC hasn't posted any studio pics because she just hasn't been inspired by anyone or even her own vocal capacities now. I hope everyday that she would post a studio pic in the booth with any producer. I would even a take a JD studio pic at this point. My original post was prompted by watching some studio videos of Robin Thicke finishing up his new album coming out in February or March.

Robert-Anthony, wasn't that about six years ago? I don't think Mariah is that sensitive. She might not post studio pictures anymore because she hasn't been working on anything new or with someone she finds exciting. Sadly, the longer she waits, the more her voice deteriorates. I'm not sure what a new album from her would sound like five years from now. At this point, her whisper register isn't what it used to be, and the whistle register, as crisp as we once knew it, isn't there anymore. I really don't know what she's waiting for.

I think that I have figured out why MC doesn't post studio pics anymore. I thought back to the one songwriter who had the most songwriting credits on Caution. This songwriter was talking about their studio time together more than MC. We never knew she was in studio with him until he was talking to the media saying that the two had seven songs in. The person who I am talking about is Poo Bear. I think that he may have upset MC for saying this. Poo Bear was probably a suggestion by L.A. Reid. Their songwriting style and melodies are not similiar to me. His style and melodies are great for Justin Beiber. This makes me remember how Virgin Records suggested to Boy George that he work with Teddy Riley and Gene Griffin. Boy George described his experience with Gene and Teddy as a horrible experience.

I haven't posted in ages, literally. But I feel compelled because I don't see anyone anywhere saying this out loud: Both of Mariah's ex-husbands are narcissists. The last one is still very much up to his old tricks and is the main reason Mariah has difficulty commiting to a full relationship with any man no natter how compatible they are. This has been my observation since 2014. Is love to be wrong but I'm not. Imagine trying to build a relationship, dating to marry and have children as a public person, meanwhile the father of your two children is on a mission to keep your name in their mouth whenever he creates another sibling to your kids like he's collecting Pokemon cards. It's a very deliberate strategy designed to disrupt whatever progress Mariah makes in her romantic relationships. Just have a gander at the timeline of when he started his little "family expansion" in 2016-17. That's when Mariah was engaged to James Packer and Bryan Tanaka entered the picture again. In the 7 subsequent years, he had 12 more pregnancies that we know of with God only knows how many women.

Anybody can see how that would impact Mariah's desire to add to that kind of biological terrorism of her two children when we now all know how damaged her own siblings left her. Any potential chance at being open to marrying and having another child (however that would come to be) with a good man, God-fearing and equally yoked, has been made almost impossible because of her ex-husband. He knows he doesn't have a chance to get back in her pants either but he doesn't want her to be truly happy with anyone else. He's not gonna stop because plenty of women are willing to be career baby-mamas. The fact that their children are automatically connected to Mariah Carey might even be a greater motivator than who the father is. You can draw your own conclusions from why that is. My 2025¢.

MC chose some of the best samples for her songs like Heartbreaker, Honey, How Much, Fantasy, The One remix, Miss You, My All/Stay Awhile remix, Crybaby, Loverboy and A No No. I could go on and on. Listening to Muni Long's songs like Superpowers, Make Me Forget, and Leave My Baby Tonight made me think that both of them have a keen ear for choosing samples that work extremely well with their melodies and lyrics. Plus, their songs make you want to get on the dancefloor. Listen to Muni Long's Superpowers and watch your head start to move. Lol.
