Re: Lip syncing (63,729) (63,735) by Andrew from UK
The excuse that "everyone lip syncs" is misleading. It suggests that other artists do it as much as Mariah has over the past ten years. She is now known equally for lip-syncing than for singing. It pervades almost every song. The "it doesn't matter because it's her voice" ruse is absurd. If it doesn't matter to the public that it's not live singing she may as well just stand on stage and touch her [censored] and not bother moving her mouth. She moves her mouth to try to convince everyone it's her, and not studio manipulation. You are correct in that it is a lie and is wrong. And when she sings live she struggles to get anywhere near the pre-record in terms of range and quality. However, and a big however, I probably wouldn't bring it up again if people didn't insist on trying to pass of lip-syncing as the real thing. Or admit that she is lip-syncing but it doesn't matter for an ever-increasing number of reasons. Rather people just stayed mute about it and not try to further the lie. Then it will be put to bed.

Re: Lip syncing (63,729) (63,734) by RibbonB from USA
The other option is she could stop performing altogether, but I'm sure she has no desire to stop. So perhaps this is her happy medium. I think she just wants to give fans a good experience of her hits and people like them to sound similar to what they know when they pay to see a show.

Not sure I mind the lip singing anymore. For the most part she sounds excellent in Vegas and the wardrobe is on fire. I just wish her continued success.

DJ Mimi (63,732) by Ian from United Kingdom
In my experience as a DJ of 20 years most celebrity DJs have someone cueing the music, working the mixer etc. in the background. She will probably pose a lot with headphones strategically placed so as not to mess her hair up and do very little work. I'm sure she'll have input as far as the playlist goes but I'm sure she's just out to have a bit of fun.

This sounds like another moment for her reality show, lol. I hope she spins some good music. Maybe a new dance cut of her own?

Article: Mariah Carey to make DJ debut this weekend in Las Vegas (63,730) by Musti from UK
I'm quite excited about this. I am not sure what to expect but it might inspire her to try new things on the next album. I doubt it will be anything like Tiesto (and I really hope not). But if she ends up experimenting with other producers/DJs like George Fitzgerald, Saje, Mount Kimbie, James Blake, Nicolas Jaar, etc I'm all for it. There is so much talent out there. It's just a matter of being aware of it.

Lip syncing (63,729) by Randy from USA
I'm trying to hold my tongue and be positive because my criticism of MC has caused many on this board to think I don't like her or I have outgrown her. I can't on this topic though. Lip syncing is fraud. Yes I know everyone does it. A couple of years ago I was watching Chris Brown perform on the BET awards and I was pissed that it was clear that he was singing to his own voice. To me that is still fraud. And a couple of you are saying well they're still singing to their own voice. But a voice in the studio is manipulated. Anyone can sound good in the studio so again, it doesn't prove you can actually sing. Do you know how many singers out there who can actually sing and can't get a break because they're fat and unattractive or they don't know the right people? So to me this is taking your fans money and the one thing they ask of you is to sing well and you can't do it without help. Then what are we paying you for? Patti never lip sync'd unless the venue required it. Neither did Aretha. Nor does Fantasia or J Hud or Ledisi. Whitney sounded horrible in years leading up to her death and she went out like a soldier. MC is someone who many consider the best voice of all time. Remember MTV named her #1 vocalist of the past 22 years in 2003, and she said I don't feel that way about myself, which I felt was very telling. I'll say this. She has been sounding really good lately in Vegas and I'm hoping that translates onto American television during her next promotional push, where she usually falls apart. It's also telling she has been promoting Vegas and ain't sang a note on Kimmel or on Kelly and Michael. But again you all will say she's saving her voice. I know Janet lip syncs, so does Beyonce at times, Britney Spears, J Lo, Usher, Justin Bieber and Madonna. I am disgusted with them too. But MC is a singer by profession. Not singing means you're not doing your job. How many of you can collect pay and not do your job? I saw Charmbracelet in 2003 and I wanted my money back because she lip syncd constantly. I could hear the differences in the mic whenever a high full voice chest belt was to come. Forget Stella, the ensembles, James Packer and the splashes. I don't care about that stuff. None of us pay to see MC act a certain way. We pay to hear her sing. This is the topic that irritates me most. Yeah other artist do it, but that doesn't make it right. If your voice isn't what it used to be, lower the keys of your song and change the arrangement.

Re: Mariah on Mario Lopez (63,714) (63,724) by 123 from USA
She's already discussed recording new music during her Vegas residency this month and that they've reached out to some people already to work with but she wouldn't go into detail citing she doesn't want her intellectual property again. I'm guessing a new song will come out to coincide with the docuseries this fall.

My All June 21st (63,723) by 123 from USA
She threw everything but the kitchen sink into this performance. It's funny because when the pre-record comes on it sounds inferior to her live vocals in this song. You really feel the emotion in this performance. I love it that she is growling again, it gives me early 90's Mariah nostalgia. She needs to change up the rest of her songs like this and let the emotion take her over when she sings.

MIAM showcases her whole 5 octaves though. It goes down to G#2 in The Art Of Letting Go and up to G#7 in Heavenly.

Wow, my apologies. I haven't slept since yesterday. Been working on so many things. This whole time I thought I added the link lol. I do agree with you btw. I'd rather get surprised than to have all those teasers and get my hopes up. It kind of causes expectations, which I shouldn't do to begin with anyways. Here's the link.

Mariah does lip parts of songs, all artist do it. When she does sing live she sangs. No one can deny that she's still got at least half of her range. It's also clear she's been seeing a vocal coach and her throat doctor.

Re: Mariah on Mario Lopez (63,714) (63,715) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Mariah has been really concerned about her material being stolen. I'd rather have her not mention anything about her music or who she is collaborating with than for her to have a "on the bathroom floor" moment when someone steals her idea and releases it before her haha. I want her to suddenly slap a brand new album on my face when I least expected it. That way it's better since I was so sick of seeing constant "studio moments" photos during the MIAM era, don't get me wrong I love me some behind the scenes photos but what made it annoying was that the album kept getting pushed back and we just saw her recording and recording but we were getting zero info on the release of the album. Anyways Antonio, do you mind posting a link to the Mario Lopez interview if it's not a problem? I'd like to give it a listen. Thanks.

Mariah on Mario Lopez (63,714) by Haiji Toro from USA
I just discovered this radio interview from earlier this month, I believe June 8th, to be exact. Maybe I'm just behind but has anyone heard it yet? Not too give anything away to those that haven't heard it, but she did mention not wanting to disclose any info on her 3 movies for Hallmark because of fear of anyone stealing ideas. Could this be the reason, as well, to not saying anything about her music? She did mention working with new producers but she hasn't name-dropped anyone yet. Hope this is the case and she has something already in the works for us real soon.

Lip synching (63,713) by Will from England
Don't forget, that when Mariah was younger hitting those big notes, she never really pulled facial expressions to show that those notes where difficult to reach. She always made it look effortless. Look at her (I think) Arsenio Hall performance of "Emotions", where she hit those super high notes as if it were nothing. She only pulls those sorts of facial expressions when she's really feeling that performance and letting it rip vocally, not to portray that she's reaching for those notes. Look at her recent VOL performances, and of course, the WBT/FLAB Grammy performance at the end. When lip synching, maybe she is doing it how she would have sung those notes naturally, like IDWC. OK, maybe it can be perfected a little to be more realistic, but she's never had to do (I don't think) it under live conditions. Perhaps I'm wrong.

Article: Here's why Demi Lovato quit Twitter and Instagram (63,712) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Demi is so desperate for attention that she couldn't stay off social media for more than 24 hours. Then why even make a big deal of leaving social media when you have zero control over yourself. She seriously has some issues and for someone who claims to be all about women empowerment and anti-bullying she sure has a need for dissing other artists (especially female) for no good reason. She started with Taylor Swift this year and called her out for giving money to Kesha instead of tweeting about sexual abuse. Girl does not have the mental capability to understand that people help in different ways and Kesha needed the money since she had legal and other bills to pay and didn't have any recent project out to finance herself. Taylor could either tweet or help with money, she made her choice. Then Demi calls out Nicki Minaj for not tagging her on her instagram. How pathetic can you get? Why are you so bothered that Nicki didn't tag you? The post was about the designer, thanking and appreciating him. Why would Nicki bother tagging Demi? She was also constantly dissing Taylor when Selena left Demi and started hanging out with Taylor. Now she calls out Mariah over a meme, baseless crap. All these just makes it look like she is desperate for attention and will be dissing other people left and right herself but lecture people on women empowerment and anti-bullying. Demi stop contradicting yourself. You are a bully.

Lipsyncing (63,711) by Marissa from USA
I used to be infuriated by MC's lipsyncing back in 2014 when she was using it as a crutch for every single performance. Nowadays I feel that she only uses it as a tool so she doesn't overwork her voice, which I have no problem with. My only issue with Mariah's lipsyncing now is that she has never mastered it after all of these years. It has always been very amateur, which makes it so easy for lambs and the gp to know the exact moment when she's lipsyncing even when people don't want to acknowledge that she is. I know there are vocal coaches, but are there lipsyncing coaches too? It still astounds me that Whitney Houston's legendary 1991 Star Spangles Banner performance was lipsynced because she made it look so convincing that she was actually singing live. I think it's because she used the same level of expression, intensity and emotion that she would use if she was singing live while Mariah tends to look more relaxed, thus making achieving such powerful notes look unrealistic and obvious that she's not actually singing.

Underrated album - Emotions/Charmbracelet (63,709) by IheartMC from USA
Hi guys, I am a fellow lamb since the Emotions era. I have to say I think Emotions was originally an underrated album which includes the title track and so many other gems such as:
- So Blessed
- Can't Let Go
- If It's over
- You're so cold
- The Wind
- Til the end of time
- And you don't remember
- Make It Happen
As you can tell I thoroughly enjoy this album and think Mariah really created such a great timeless piece of work. In regards to Charmbracelet, hailed as her "comeback album" was another album of hers that was overlooked. The album isn't as strong as previous albums, however it is a cohesive mature piece of work which has a balance of signature and new wave Mariah sounds. I wasn't initially the biggest fan of this album, but overtime I have learned appreciate and closely listen to each track furthermore making it a new favorite. Songs that I love from the album are below. I love how the album is a vibe.
- I only wanted
- Through the rain
- Subtle Invitation
- My Saving grace
- Lullaby
- Yours
- Bringin on the Heartbreak
- Clown
- The One
- You got me (wish there were no rappers)
What are your thoughts/faves?
