NYE performance (70,656) by Special K from USA
Happy New Year everybody. These are my thoughts on what happened. It's clear Mariah couldn't hear. I also don't believe it was her plan to lip synch the whole performance. That is obvious because when the music was playing for Emotions the only prerecording we heard were the high notes. Mariah straight up told us they were playing the album version of WBT. I have mad respect that she gave us a heads up. That seems to get lost in the sauce. My problem with Mariah is how she handled the situation. Mariah has been in the game for 27 plus years. She of all people should understand that no matter what difficulties any singer/performer is facing the show must go on honey. How about cutting the music and singing acapella? Man she would have gotten mad respect for that. Mariah also had another opportunity to turn that mess around, well not completely but it would of helped. When the ball was getting ready to drop Gloria Estefan and Ryan Seacrest were on stage. Mariah appeared briefly then she left. Seriously? Man, Mariah could have stayed with Gloria and taken the opportunity to apologise and ring the New Year in graciously with the crowd. Sorry, but I'm glad this happened. Maybe now Mariah will take these live performances more seriously and I hope this hot mess has humbled her. Mariah can redeem herself. Her career isn't over and it will never be. She should take this epic fail as a learming opportunity to really focus on that voice and make her career about the voice again. The tour with Lionel Ritchie is a great venue to start over. Like Randy said, It would be nice if it's only Mariah and Big Jim on the stage period. No dancers, no butterflies, no DJ's, no breaks, no costumes changes.

It's not funny, it's instructive. This is how you should handle that type of situation. You make it about the music and not about yourself. Patti is amazing. God bless her.

Gosh, so sad. I still refuse to watch it in full. I can't bear the embarrassment. And I feel extremely sad for her. It's day 2 and people are still tearing her apart on social media. But no, I don't want her to go home. I want her to come back and fix this. I want this to be her wake-up call.

Re: Billboard article (70,625) (70,652) by RibbonB from USA
Lol Mimi L. I thought the same things, good breakdown of the article. Did you watch MW last night? Can we get a synopsis of what happened? I did not watch. Also, how does Stellar convince herself that she is so professional in dealing with Mariah's old staff, but she hires a comic character in Molly just for the reality show? It's absurd. And Brett's "friend" vetting is horrendous. He invited a sycophant into Mariah's realm, when Randy very wisely kept her out of it. Brett throws Mariah out like meat to the wolves, although M. has a lot of wolf in her too, or she is a "changeling".

Why Stella needs to watch what she says (70,651) by Martyn from England, UK
So thanks to Stella's outburst, the headline on the MailOnline now reads: "Dick Clark Productions slams Mariah Carey's accusations of sabotage as 'frankly absurd' after diva's epic lip syncing meltdown she blamed on faulty earpiece". Most people on that site read the headline and the comments without bothering to read the article, so now it looks as though Mariah accused DC productions. Great work Stella.

Is Stella to blame? (70,650) by Matthew from USA
It seems like a lot of the fans are advocating for someone like Tommy, who knows what they are doing, to step in as manager and control the situation. I feel bad for Mariah, because on the one hand it's hard to give up control, but on the other hand, she's not making very good decisions when she does have control and is surrounded by enablers. But even if she were to hire a new management now, would she listen? If a level headed manager kept calling to tell her she needs to attend her sound check, or put her on rations for alcohol, or told her some of her outfits were inappropriate or tacky, or said her acting was slightly cringe-worthy, I honestly think they would get fired pretty quickly. Or Mariah would just ignore them to the point where they decide to quit. I don't think she handles the truth very well. Yes, Stella is an enabler, but is she solely to blame for all the mishaps? Anyway, I don't know how she will get rid of Stella since her family has made themselves indispensable and blurred the lines between friends and business. It could get pretty nasty if she tried to ditch her. Stella seems like the vengeful type.

NYE "performance" (70,649) by Carlos from Brazil
It is impossible to visit the board and not mention what happened. Altought there is so much to say you guys most definitely said it all. This is a toxic combo of everything that could go wrong as an artist, a brand and a team. Since we love MC so much I believe it is almost impossible to let go of her but in times like these all our efforts to be the best fans are vanishing as we speak.

Like Godmother like daughter (70,646) by DK from USA
I have no idea why this is so funny - the way Patti reacted to this mess. Long P.S. NYE made me sweat in uncomfortable sad energy. After a +2 decades' career, I had never seen something like this with any artist. Not just the malfunction but also the magnitude of the audience size and exposure. The last mass embarrassing moment that I remember of her was the 2013 ABC summer concert series performance of #Beautiful, when she butchered the whistle notes but they were edited at least for the West Coast audience. I am surprised how generous the main stream media (CNN, New York Times) have been to her re NYE fiasco. Like many others wrote on this board, MC needs soul searching. She seems to be constantly caught in uncomfortable situations, that somehow dont happen to other artists (other than Ashley Simpson). It is all a reflection of her fragile brand with her being the CEO and rest of corporation/team. She made a name for herself through her earth shattering vocals, but as a beloved classic artist she still has enough voice left in her to sing without the earth-shattering notes and make meaningful music that is delivered in a simple "real" way. Make an intentionally imperfect album (even when "Art of Letting Go" was released via FB, she was upset that her own team released the wrong version of the song without the dubbing of the long chorus note, which to the masses would have been unnoticeable, com' on). She seems excited about the next musical project (2017), let's see what unfolds. Wish you well.

If this is true I hope she goes on there with an actual explanation of what may have happened. No finger pointing, darlings, or anything else dramatic. Just a simple explanation. Leave Divariah at home. Leave Stella there too If you can. Lol.

Re: My thoughts on NYE (70,643) (70,644) by Chicago Lamb from USA
Yes she absolutely sings on top of the notes. She sings effortlessly in her whistle register, and the backing track is just for added volume. She looked gorgeous, but if it had gone off without a hitch, she wouldn't have gotten this much publicity. We don't know and probably never will know what was behind this live snafu.

Re: My thoughts on NYE (70,641) (70,643) by Edouard from France
Well thank you for digging deep and finding a way to express your frustration in a nice, respectful and touching manner Andrew. I understand your point. The fact that she talked over the high notes showed 2 things: those notes were not live and also, it really goes to show how little she could here [sic] the music. When you think about it, had she heard the notes she probably would've faked it (anybody would have). Does it mean Mariah never sing those notes live anymore? I don't think so. She can, she has throughout the entire year/carrer [sic]. I thing [sic] she usually sings on top of those notes just to help her out. What do you think ?

Re: My thoughts on NYE (70,635) (70,641) by Andrew from UK
There seems to be 3 issues with the performance: Where the faults came from, how Mariah handled it, and the lip-syncing. Where the faults came from are really neither here nor there. Mariah obviously couldn't hear what she wanted to hear. So be it. Mariah's manager should have down played this not blow it up. She is nucking futs. She would be wise to stop acting like someone desperate to look like they are in control and keep their job and to show good grace, which is what Mariah did on stage. I respect that she didn't walk off and I respect that she made it clear when they put on the album version of WBT (which I assume they did to try to help her seeing as she only ever lips the last chorus) she made it evident that she was only singing along. My heart actually broke when she looked up at the sky looking embarrassed and defeated. I genuinely had tears in my eyes because I saw the person I used to know and I didn't want her to be stood there enduring that and the shit-storm she probably immediately knew was coming. But a shit-storm it is. The third issue, the lip-syncing, is now globally recognised, fully understood and not going away. The whistle notes playing at the end of Emotions was excruciating, especially when she talked over them. She's been lipping those for years. The game is really up. Lip-syncing is so commonplace now it is across every register in every song. She is a singer that doesn't actually sing to the point where people don't even believe she physically can anymore. So that's it. I thought you handled it gracefully, Mariah, but it was only a matter of time. The end of the party. Time to go home.

Stella / ed (70,640) by THE TRUTH from USA
Well since that's you there Stella who knows absolutely nothing about music, it totally makes sense that with all your brilliant managerial accumen (do I need to translate) that you'd think it was fine for Mariah to skip her sound check. So it's Mariah's fault twice, one for skipping sound check and two for hiring you. Oh yeah and three for keeping you and your whole family employed while they suck the last drops of a once brilliant career. Good job.

The two Stellas on MCArchives (70,639) by Marcus from Brazil
Eric, the amount of censorship Terna had on his last message (70,632) reminds me of how foul mouthed Stella is. The fact that he refers to Edoardo as level headed makes it tough to pick which one of them is Stella.

Capital letters (70,636) by Edouard from France
A part of my earlier post is missing. I forgot that one should never write in capital letter. I was saying that I'm glad Mariah didn't pretend that WBT was live. I believe she showed respect to us and to herself by not doing so. She basically refused to play along. Since they couldn't fix the problem they played the album version instead and she clearly wasn't ready to pretend it was live. I respect that.

My thoughts on NYE (70,635) by Martyn from England, UK
The network paid a lot of money to have Mariah there, and people in the crowds waited 12+ hours without having access to a toilet just to see her. Mariah's job is to sing/perform and she did neither of those things that night, yet walked away with her pay cheque. She was given a full day for a tech rehearsal and chose not to attend. I don't know what it's like to have a screaming crowd in front of you and not to be able to hear the music loudly (my earpiece has never failed ), but what confuses me is that the dancers still seemed to be dancing in time, so surely they could hear something? Also, despite the obvious "she was planning to mime because she can't sing anymore" response from the public, she was clearly planning on singing the majority of it live, as the prerecorded vocals still played, and it was just the usual high/whistle notes. It's likely she bailed because she didn't want a repeat of Rockefeller. Stella's "purposeful sabotage for ratings" response is deluded and ridiculous, and referring to Mariah as the "biggest star there" is arrogant and pretty rude given that Gloria Estefan was also performing (I'm sure her and Mariah are friends, right?). It all boils down to unprofessionalism. Not showing up to rehearse and refusing to attempt to sing when the shit hits the fan is basically Mariah not doing her job. It's like me going to work and just looking at my monitor blankly. She isn't the first artist to have an earpiece that has failed, and I have never seen anybody react like that. I feel sorry for her and it's unfortunate that it happened, but the way she dealt with it was weird and unprofessional.

Re: What happened? ((70,610) (70,634) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Believe it or not I had a "feeling" that something would go wrong at this event. I will not say that Mariah had no chance to make it better, but at least she tried. I don't know if the technicals made fun of her. One thing is clear, Mariah has the worst "team" ever. She needs to work with only the best of the best like she used to. Of course we are all humans and make mistakes but her manager is the biggest mistake who Mariah choose for wrong reasons. I hope Mariah gets a nice vacation and rethinks some things. For changes it's never too late.

I just don't understand (70,633) by Edouard from France
How some of you here (not everybody though) don't show any compassion to Mariah anymore. She looked gorgeous, she was ready. She went to a soundcheck (I did my homework you see, after reading your comments). Can't we just, as a collective force, embrace Mariah and feel sad for her. She works so hard, always has. When something like this happens, they just should have cut to commercials and fix the problem (it is their responsability). You just don't throw an artist (any artist for that matter) in the arena like a gladiator. I believe she handled it quiet gracefully considering her frustration and anger. Shouldn't we all feel let down by the production team. They basically ripped us off a Mariah performance. Can you please try to understand, I'm not asking you to agree but just make a step towards Mariah (my hero, and I believe your hero as wall). P.S I'm not Stella , I just choose to believe (even though she's tough and rude) that she has Mariah's best interest at heart. I think there is a reason why Mariah hired her that we probably don't fully understand because Mariah's been quiet about it. Her ex-team wasn't doing their job anymore and I believe Stella, because she's strong, motivates Mariah to keep going. And I'm thankful for that.

Re: I'm glad to see (70,620) (70,632) by Terna from Nigeria
I'm glad someone sees the bigger picture, is level headed [...] able to assess the situation with reason and common sense, not just running around like chickens with their heads cut off. I made the same observation [...] mentioned something about DaBrat being Mariah's mouthpiece. I'm loving this Mariah in terms of not backing down anymore and being more vocal about such things like her response to Demi's diss [...] her Instagram post shortly after the whole fiasco. Classic Mariah. She has reached that sacred place in life when you're truly unbothered by all the hoopla [...] just live. Royalty. Stay positive lambs.

Re: Old pic of Stella (70,626) (70,631) by MusicfanJ from Germany
This pic is hilarious. Is it possible to look even more cheap? I usually don't have a meaning of somebody just because of the look. But in that case the look says it all. And when she opens the mouth it's even worse. No behavior at all. Looks like a person who would go to "Big Brother" the TV-show.

Now that I've calmed down (70,630) by Randy from USA
I think this is a confirmation of the loss of the voice and only because she could've cleared the stage cut all music and just sang acapella with her hand up to her ear. But I'm not calling for her to retire, just go back to singing without the ensembles and the dancers. One of the best moments of the Vegas show is her and the piano and nothing else. To fix this MC needs to do a press conference performance acapella and release an unplugged album. Nothing but her, piano and acoustics. CNN wrote a beautiful article about technological glitches and how MX should have handled it: I'm sad this is national news now though. How to avoid a Mariah Carey meltdown.
