Brazil concert (111,201)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
Mariah has been looking at the monitor ever since 2013 when she went viral for forgetting the lyrics on tour to WBT. Something happened after her fall and broken shoulder. I always suspected they gave her some serious pain killer stuff to keep her going as she is a business that just cannot turn off the lights especially in the middle of promoting an album. Maybe she got hooked on something like opioids? Maybe she still has the addiction and that is why she is being moved from spot to spot by Michael Richardson. He was also moving her around in the same fashion in 2000/2001 when she was carrying around that pink Hello Kitty boom box. We all remember how the end of 2001 went. I wonder how it will end this time.

Brazil show (111,200)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I can see why people would be disappointed. She barely moved. I don't get it, she was doing much better in the other show but is back to being stiff. I know a lot of people are like Mariah is not a dancer and for sure no one expects her to dance, but she always had a great stage presence back in the day. She'd move around, move her hands that would emote the song and just be more "present". Nowadays she seems like she is in a glass cage not moving, not interacting and just frozen constantly looking at the monitor. It's almost like she can't see she's in an audience, and only is looking at her band and backup dancers. She's booking these huge shows which can really help her sales but she just seems so disinterested and bored. I wish someone would speak to her or show her the clips so she can see what she's doing.

Mariah's priorities (111,199)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
No surprise in Brazil. I'm always surprised that people are so upset though. It's become a joke on Instagram and TikTok. "Go ahead Mimi give us nothing and everything at the same time." I think Mariah's priorities are ranked in this order. #4 Her vocals. #3 "The music" or being a songwriter in the studio. #2 The lighting. #1 Looking great: "the hair, the makeup, the ensemble". Whenever she walks out on stage, myself and everyone in the general public says the same thing, " wow she looks great." But we never leave the performance with "she sounded great". And as for HFIA, Stacey and Bill, I agree with the "sh*t" being out of place. And she mentions God in the next line. Listen I say bad words but they fit the moment. GTFO is my anthem. But on HFIA, "sh*t" didn't belong with the mood of the verse. I really like the song though, outside of that. And if you've followed my career as a columnist on this board, y'all know I don't like anything. P.S I kinda thought we were getting "Mi" this week as she alluded to it at the end of her "finish the lyric video". Oh well.

New Here For It All video (111,198)
by Lambi from USA

Wait, I keep forgetting Mariah went through an actual heavy break up. 7 years. The lyrics do fit Tanaka as well. Maybe he was the initial subject and then she kept editing and added elements of her mom's death? I'm so invested now. I like the song so far.
It being about Tanaka would make perfect sense though. Let's hear the rest.

I really liked the clip of HFIA. I heard say it in one of the interviews that she wrote it a couple of years ago and knew she wanted to name the album after it ever since.
At first after the Selfridges snippet I thought maybe she wrote it for her kids but it sounds like it must have been for Bryan.
.Paak is too recent for a song that's two years old. Speaking of, I know MC is busy with promo and touring but he's nowhere to be seen. Maybe he was just helping her get the album together and they aren't romantically involved?

Yeah I agree Bill. I think at this point she would actually get more sympathy from the general public if she was just honest with them. So what if she’s got something, no one cares and would actually warm to her for being open and honest.

Shame to read this, but this has been Mariah's standard for a long time (except the concert in the UK, not sure what happened there or why she suddenly was "Mariah" again).
The bad press and reviews will all come to a stop if she simply lets everybody know what the problem is. Medication? Fine. A bad back? Fine. An auto-immune disease? Fine. Everyone loves her and no one would think of her any differently, in fact, people like me would shut up and let her get on with it, as right now she just comes across as doing the bare minimum and in it for the money (which may also be the case).
But, I know Mariah, and I know she has been dealing with something that started showing as early as the E=MC2 days, but has got progressively worse and worse, to the point where it is up there in neon flashing lights and still we sit here blaming it on high heels and nerves and nodules.

Eh. A bit disappointed this much hyped track contains profanity. It's so low rent and, as you say, no need for it. That's put a bit of a dampener on it for me sadly.
I hope she isn't telling our good Lord above to "GTFO" on Jesus I Do.

Yes, the look was great, but the concert was terrible. Nobody enjoyed it, and people thought it was awful how she didn't interact with the audience, kept staring at the monitors, and left the stage multiple times for long outfit changes. She barely sang, didn't even try to move around the stage, and now she's been getting a lot of backlash from both the media and fans, many of whom left halfway through the show. I just can't understand this lack of energy in her concerts lately. It feels like she doesn't even want to be there. I don't remember any Mariah concert ever being this bad before. Here's my version of MIAM that I playlisted, rather than the actual album:
1. Make It Look Good 2. Beautiful 3. You Don't Know What to Do 4. You're Mine (Eternal) 5. Cry. 6. Faded 7. Dedicated 8. Almost Home 9. Mesmerised* 10. Triumphant (Get 'Em) 11. The Art of Letting Go
*I know it's not strictly from the era, but I think it fits. I trimmed all the filler and weak tracks out, especially One More Try and Heavenly, as they are so Frankensteined they don't even sound like her.

Definitely a missed opportunity. In my humble opinion, "Triumphant" was stronger than a lot of tracks on MIAM and deserved a spot on the album, yet it wasn't even included as a bonus track. When it first dropped, people complained that Mariah sounded like a guest on her own song, but then she came back with those incredible remixes that proved her voice was still very much there. I still jam to them today. I'm sure there are more gems from that era sitting in the vault, and when they finally see the light of day, we'll all be in for a surprise.

If that's true (and reading a separate article before coming here stating similar things) it may be time for Mariah to step out of the limelight. Even if it meant pushing that album back. This is starting to look really bad. What is up with all these strange appearances and low energy/effort to perform? Now, it's starting to become infuriating because she's doing a disservice to her fans and her legacy.
She really needs to take care of herself because something is just not right with her. This is way different than 2001. She looks absolutely vacant and absent vitually everywhere these past two months. This seems like there is much more issues with her mental health to the point where she is coming off as a pretty zombie. It's not worth the damage in the long run. I hope there is at least one person there looking after her.

New Here For It All video (111,187)
by Lambi from USA
| |
|
|
"I lay awake and feel you breathe and thank the Lord I lived to see the physical embodiment of love" sounds like the last moments with Pat. She realizes her mother really did the best with what she got. She may have been neglectful at times, but that's what happens when there is only one working parent.
"But when you leave you take a little bit of every fiber that's embedded in me. But if you need, I'll keep my shit together and internalize the depths of the fears." My thoughts then shifted to Dem Babies growing up and Mariah having a bit of a hard time letting go.
"And baby I'm here for it all. Red carpets in Cannes and applause, Bugattis whatever they're called. Baby, I'm here for it all. Our virtuous sleepover nights that kept me from losing my mind through things I don't care to recall. Still, baby, I'm here for it all." What comes to mind is her watching Mean Girls with Roe in matching all pink pajamas.
The first stanzas could easily apply to her kids as well. It sounds like deep retrospection. Mariah lost her mom, so this feels like an ode to her babies. She knows what that kind of loss feels like, and now she wants to let them know what they mean to her, and that she'll try to be there as much as possible.
Will someone with great ears transcribe the very first snippet? Maybe we can get a fuller picture. It seems like a family-centered song, I like it. The first few lines of the melody are very I Believe I Can Fly. I hear a new song that everyone will be covering soon. Finally.

I'm not surprised. This has been the same running theme with the concerts in China as well. I hope a physical therapist help her gain the will to move and be lively again. Lambs are somewhat accepting at this point but the general public will continue to shred her to pieces if she keeps being a living corpse. I know it's all festive and Mariah is winning awards, yay. But it's truly sad where she's at, performing wise. She's moved more when she was pregnant. The injury from 2013 is fully catching up to her, it seems.

I think there were some label issues with Def Jam after L.A. Reid left. Recording sessions extended, lack of label support and promotion, Walmart leak, and the #Beautiful video came out too late were all of things MIAM faced before it was finally released. MC was just ready to be done with Def Jam.

I swear there is a great album buried within the clutter of the "Me I Am Mariah" album. I bet "The Art of Letting Go" would have done well if everything with that album launch had gone according to plan and Mariah hadn't hurt herself filming the "#Beautiful" remix video. I definitely would have tossed the "One More Try" cover, "Heavenly/No Ways Tired", and those unnecessary "remixes" of "It's A Wrap" and "Betcha Gon' Know". What a missed opportunity that album was.

I just listened to the clip of the title track. It sounds fantastic and has me super excited and pumped for the album. I ordered my copy on Amazon this morning and opted for the original album cover where she's smiling with her eyes closed. It still very much reminds me of the "Glitter" album cover. Yay for new Mariah on 9/26 on the 30th anniversary of "Daydream".

Wow. I can not believe this. There are still 12 days left until 09.26. The Lamb said that he would not leak anything. I dreamed this would happen last night since retailers are already receiving the album in their UPS and Fed Ex daily shipments.

MC's post on X of her singing the verses of Here For It All live with Daniel Moore showcases her impeccable songwriting skils. The lyrics are really deep and personal. I wonder who HFIA is about. Patricia? Anderson?

Loving the new clip of [Here for it all]. Sounds like a great song. Not sure why she had to swear in it but other than that it sounds like a quality song with current vocals.

I'll be listening before hearing other people's opinions (111,177)

I swear there is a great album buried within the clutter of the "Me I Am Mariah" album. I bet "The Art of Letting Go" would have done well if everything with that album launch had gone according to plan and Mariah hadn't hurt herself filming the "#Beautiful" remix video. I definitely would have tossed the "One More Try" cover, "Heavenly/No Ways Tired", and those unnecessary "remixes" of "It's A Wrap" and "Betcha Gon' Know". What a missed opportunity that album was.

That's how it's been for me ever since Mariah's horrendous "One More Try" cover on MIAM. Before that, we could always count on her to deliver in the studio, but things have changed. I'm still super excited for the new album dropping so, but I'm also cautious with my expectations. At the end of the day, I like what I like. And honestly, checking out fan reviews beforehand feels just as valid as people reading reviews before buying something or going to a show.
