Article: Mariah Carey worries fans after "crying" on stage (107,193)

The song was Looking In. Again, I don't see any tears or crying in the recent performance.

I wonder what she's struggling with. That was really sad to watch. Reminds me of years back when she started crying during a performance of Outside (I believe; she was wearing black feathers and had just had that accident on the set of the #Beautiful remix video set), or when she cried at the Christmas concert when her and Nick were breaking up. At least we know she's singing live, but it was hard watching the backup singers and band keep looping back waiting for her to jump back in. I wonder if all the focus and discussion on Celine's struggle with her voice and illness is making Mimi reflect on her own vocal aging. No Olympian can do what they did in their 20's while they're in their 50's. Anyway, it breaks my heart when I see Mariah cry.

Reflecting Mariah and Dolly (107,191)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
I'm a big Dolly Parton fan, and I started thinking about all the parallels between Mariah and Dolly's careers (and I'm not taking about the boobs hahahaha). Both MC and Dolly have used the butterfly as their moniker, they both have a butterfly themed album (Love is Like a Butterfly, 1974), one called Rainbow (Rainbow, 1987), Dolly has an album called Heartbreaker (1978). They have both bounced around record labels and it's sometimes unclear who they are signed to. Both write, sing and produce their own music, and are true story tellers. Both dabbled in film/acting, they both have multiple Christmas albums. Both women are two of the funniest celebrities in the world with a hilarious sense of humour and self deprecating awareness.
What's interesting is that with every album from Dolly starting in 1967 she has more and more success. She wasn't an out-the-gate runaway success like Mariah. Dolly would drop multiple albums a year some years.
I would love Mariah to revisit country with Dolly like she did with Right to Dream with Willie Nelson.

I attended the Charmbracelet tour in London in 2003 right before Halloween, and this year I'm actually planning on going back and see her Christmas shows
I'm currently hospitalized for depression with previous suicidal thoughts for the second time since 2009. If it hadn't been for my mobile phone and YouTube and the existence of Mariah Carey, I wouldn't have survived. I have to thank Mariah again for saving my life, thank you Mariah.

I can assure you that she is receiving zero "hate" for coming out as "bisexual" in 2024. But she's definitely receiving understandable eye rolls from people who can see that it's motivated by a desire for attention. In 2024, you don't broadcast your personal life like this unless your motivation is publicity.
I contrast Morris with Tracy Chapman and Luther Vandross, both of whom had lots of speculation about their sexual orientation but had enough class to swat people away when asked about it. It's not normal to broadcast this kind of thing and definitely not when you're recently divorced with a young son.
And from personal experience, I can tell you that "waiting until later in life" is not a luxury that many gay men and lesbian women have had.

Everyone's journey is different and we shouldn't make assumptions about her decisions. A lot of people come out much later in life, mostly from fear of being judged or alienated. Therefore we shouldn't judge her for coming out and it certainly is not worth all the hate one can receive for what you call "the cool factor". Take it easy, enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Maren Morris is an attention-seeking narcissist lol. I cannot stand it when celebrities come out as "bisexual" or "queer" for the cool factor. It's such a slap in the face to those of us who have been openly gay or lesbian since before it was cool to identify as "LGBTQ+".
My question to Morris is, why get married to a man and have a child with him if you always harbored these thoughts? I think people who harbor doubts about their sexual orientation have an obligation to tell people they are planning to marry and with whom they are planning to have children. It isn't fair to the children, and it isn't fair to the ex-spouse. And, yes, before anyone accuses me of sexism or "biphobia", I would argue the same in situations where the person in question is male or if the person in question was a gay man or lesbian woman.

Ridiculous. She's just waiting for the pre-recorded section (all of it is, in fact) while half smiling and not wanting to do any live adlibs. There's no more to this specific performance than the rest of the show.

Yes it's clearly not laziness, it looks like some medical side effects. Mid 50s isn't old from anywhere but neurological disorders tend to mostly worsen with age. I hope she's taking care of herself and putting herself first. I hope there's no label or anything forcing her to do these tours - I don't want her to get into another mental exhaustion/breakdown.

Mariah is clearly relying on lip-syncing to pre-recorded tracks quite a bit. She might sing a few words live here and there, but the lipping is at an all-time high. When you compare footage from different shows, the only thing that changes are her spoken or talk-sung parts; everything else seems to be pre-recorded. Additionally, she frequently appears a dazed, whatever medication she's on seems to be affecting her movement, speech, and even the parts she sings live. I'm not criticizing her; she needs to take her meds to manage her bipolar disorder, but it's evident that she's on some strong stuff.

Gospel or Jazz album before MC16 (107,172)
by Robert-Anthony from United States

Maybe MC should release a gospel or jazz album first instead of MC16. I was just thinking a gospel or jazz would catch the world off guard. It could garner MC lots of praises for stepping into a new genre with a full album. I believe she could pull off both a gospel or jazz album effortlessly even with her current voice. Maren Morris gave me this idea. Maren said goodbye to country music, put her personal life on forefront, and released an EP this week called Intermission. Now the media is talking about her again for her personal life (she came out as being bisexual) and leaving country music to go pop. Maren gave a great ABC Nightline interview yesterday. MC should follow in Maren's footsteps with a high profile interview and full album in a new genre.

MC is definitely going through something. I feel she is back in that overworking herself mode that happened in 2000-2001. Why is she doing so many Vegas shows and not focusing on releasing new music? I understand the Christmas shows, but doing the Vegas shows are kind of unnecessary right now.

I'm a little confused about the comments here in this one. Yes, she looks a little stunned at times (has for a while). But at the same time that fans are saying she seems to have no idea walking around the stage and trouble with the cues she's also not had trouble singing the lyrics on time? I might be wrong, but haven't seen her looking like she's lip syncing. So my point is, I for one think she's singing a lot more love than people on this board make out and if she can do that, things can't be that bad. Also, if she is lip syncing, things can't be that bad with her if she's at least getting that right.

Much ado about nothing (107,168)

Maybe she got emotional about the lyrics and what she's going through right now. Being stuffed in a size 6 gown, being scrutinized every syllable for lip syncing since she can't tell us what happened in 1997, being in the desert when she'd rather be poolside writing songs for other artists, since she doesn't wanna have to go the through promotion or the live performing that comes with recording her own music. That story was overblown and I can't believe I wasted the board's time digging into it. But thank you Robert.
