New interviews (110,373)

She seems so chill. I hadn't watched interviews of her in a while, I had forgotten how much I like her. I've missed her. Thank you for posting.
I don't know any of those interviewers but I appreciate how respectful they all were.

New interviews (110,372)

I watched the iHeart interview, so there's a song called "Here for it all" at the end of the album? Could be a ballad. And the "Anderson .Paak song". But the interview still hadn't much news about the music. Christmas as a topic in August? To see 97 Mariah and Jamie was sweet. That smile back then could have melt an iceberg. Are the other interviews are better? Thanks for the links, I will check it.

Hi Eric. Wondering if I added the links to the interviews wrong or were there too many links? Should I try again?

Mariah is up for best R&B song category for Type Dangerous. Her first nomination since 2008. Today you can vote up to 20 times in one shot (usually you only get to cast ten ballots). Let's go lambs.

I've been quiet ... Sugar Sweet (110,365)
by T from USA

One Heart One Voice was released in between the two songs and it shows how much Mariah benefits when she works with classic songwriters and producers. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but it clearly is a quality production. Maybe Mariah should've used the budget of TD and sponsored a video with Ariana and Barbra Streisand. Get some of the fans back on her side with a great song.

"Not comeback material" is correct. Both singles could've just been album cuts by Mariah's standards. Some of the non-singles from Caution felt stronger and would've made better singles if released now. These last two songs feel like they're just "good enough" not to be scrapped, but they're definitely close.
It makes me wonder if Mariah is still in touch with the great songwriters of today, or if she really is just out of creative juice. Or has the overall quality of songwriters declined as well? Her top 3 collaborators, Jermaine Dupri, Manuel Seal, and Johntá Austin, are nowhere to be found. I wonder what's going on. Are they having royalty issues? Or did Mariah simply want a clean slate with fresh writers?
Whatever she's doing, it's not working. Beyoncé's albums may be mid, but she chooses the right singles. Texas Hold 'Em and Cuff It were undeniable bangers and carried their entire eras, not in album sales but at least the tours. She knows how to curate a group of talented songwriters. Mariah is simply missing the mark.
Happy to be proven wrong, though. Perhaps the hurt from Pat's death produced something directly from above. I know that when Mariah clings to God during catastrophic times, the melodies that arise are out of this world. Maybe the Clark Sisters gospel record is that moment. Maybe the balladeer Mariah has actually returned, because "Portrait" from Caution was not it. Still somewhat hopeful for this era, but I believe your assessments are pretty accurate. Mariah even said Sugar Sweet is everyone's favorite, so that signals to me that this was it. Everything is downhill from here unless she pulls a banger from under her sleeve quickly and blows everyone away.

I know. At least. And all those remixes. I think my ranking would be something like: 1. Vision of Love (what a voice, memories) 2. Dreamlover (the video, the remixes) 3. Fantasy (doesn't sound dated) 4. Honey (the new Mariah) 5. #Beautiful (summer vibes) 6. Emotions (unplugged version) 7. Loverboy (nice remixes) 8. It's like That (cool video) 9. Through the Rain (nice melody) 10. Heartbreaker (just another Dreamlover) 11. Obsessed (I don't know) 12. Touch my Body (not my cup of tea) 13. Type Dangerous (forgettable) 14. With You? (don't remember the song)

I've been really busy lately but I've been reading comments in the background. I feel as tho Mariah and Gamma made a big gamble with all this promotion and putting out these two singles. They're not bad lead singles like You're Mine Eternal. It's just that they're not undeniable hits like Touch My Body, You Don't Know What To Do (could've been). Neither of these said hit on first listen to me. They're cute songs but not comeback material. And now they may be heading for a flop. Caution debuted at #5 and at the rate this train is going I don't even see that. They have three options. 1. Release something fire, enough of this muddled opaque blah music. But that will mean we have heard a quarter of the album. And I'll be pissed if that Barbara [sic] track makes the album. 2. Push the album back which will piss the hardcore fans off. 3. Release the album now and see how people feel about it and maybe do a re-release if it flops and this time release something fire that's undeniable to the ear. This roll out is horrible because it's almost as if they believed one of those songs was a hit and would carry interest all the way to 9/26. Did they not take the MIAMTEC singles and Caution singles and their chart performance into consideration? Oh and I'm curious to know how Type Dangerous and Sugar Sweet are doing overseas. Artists always complain Americans are fickle. How's her Japanese fans reacting to the music?

Revisting Memoirs (110,361)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
Obsessed was Memoirs' biggest single in the U.S. It was released about 90 days before Memoirs was released on September 28th. Obsessed peaked at #7 on the Hot 100 and #12 on the R&B and Hip Hop Songs charts. Also, it peaked at number #1 on two dance charts. Despite the success of Obsessed, Memoirs struggled to have other singles that had the same success. I see one common factor that happened with Memoirs being mirrored with Here For It All. Obsessed was released too early before Memoirs' released date. We are seeing the same thing happening with Here For It All. Two singles have been released and we are still about 45 days away from Here For It All's released date. This long waiting period is just not good for launching a new Mariah Carey album. It seems like Gamma has been testing singles without a true first single to carry the excitement to drop Here For It All in a reasonable amount of time. I just hope the 3rd single is the one that will have people talking and VJ's spinning when the album drops on 9.26. I am hoping that a Bryson Tiller collaboration is the next single.

Regarding how is it doing overseas - it doesn't. Middle and Eastern Europe general public still think that worth of mentioning is only one song and that is All I Want For Christmas Is You and they think that she only has that one as a hit. Of course, Europe Lambs are not included here.

Sticking to MC's music only (110,357)
by T from USA

I think Here For It All will span the last five years. That's the All she's talking about because a lot has happened since the pandemic. I assume it will sound quite varied and less cohesive than Caution which took a very short time to write and record. But that can be a good thing too because some of these songs have been baking for a while and they might be really perfect.

I hope that's not the case. It seems like the album is a compilation of songs from different studio sessions during the 2020-2025 period. The collaboration with the Clark Sister was first reported back in 2021, for example. We've heard about her having an album's worth of songs in multiple interviews over the last few years, so I would assume that she could deliver some bonus tracks on the alternate editions. *fingers crossed*

I believe that the Bryson Tiller collaboration is on the way through a deluxe edition or Target Exclusive CD yielding 2-3 additional songs with a possible JD/BMC collaboration. The Bryson Tiller collaboration could be the third single and The Clark Sisters collaboration could act as the fourth single. Either way, I feel there is going to be a twist with the 11-song standard tracklisting when it is released in early September. Gamma has to do something to ensure HFIA is a huge seller the first week.

I agree, Bobby. With all of the different "editions" of the album (D2C, Amazon Exclusive, and Standard editions), surely we will get some alternate track listings or bonus tracks. Otherwise, people are just buying to collect the alternate album covers - which, to me, is not worth spending the extra money.

Mariah has complained that by the time "Caution" dropped, her label had already released three singles, so with an 11-track album, putting out that many songs beforehand doesn't really make much sense. That's nearly a third of the album already out before the full release. The same thing is happening with Ed Sheeran, his album comes out September 12, and he's already released three singles since April, none of which are charting on the Hot 100 right now, but he usually have many extra tracks. Mariah should drop the video for "Sugar Sweet" this Friday as a final push for the song. If it still doesn't gain traction, then I think she would be better off holding back and just unveiling the full "Here For It All" tracklist in two weeks.
