Inspiration for MC (106,354)
by Lainsky from Philippines
| |
|
|
Last week, I saw this video from Vanessa William's latest release Legs (Keep on Dancin'). She's 61 and can still sing and dance like in her 90's career. She was already popular back then when Mariah was in her third year of success. Perhaps she and this music video can inspire our MC performance-wise in her live concerts and on releasing her next album single. Besides, Vanessa said something nice to her when Virgin Records dropped her just like that.

Thanks for that. There were some surprises for me as well. I Believe I Can Fly, Can't Nobody Hold Me Down and a few others I thought went to number one. You know I had to go watch the 2000s number 2s so I could see Loverboy and Shake It Off Tee Hee.

What is MC going to release this year? (106,352)

Last year, we got the Honey remixes on gold vinyl, It's A Wrap vinyl, and Music Box 30th anniversary CD and vinyl. She has to release something, right?

CD physical releases are not selling anymore (106,351)
by Luke from United Kingdom

I think it's obviously part to do with everything being digital now but also CD's just aren't aesthetically pleasing lol. Like a vinyl collection can look nice on display like books do, but CD's in their plastic casing just look gross. CD's are more convenient though for collectors I guess as not everyone is going to want to splash out on a record player.

I went to my least favorite Target store yesterday after work to buy Dua Lipa's Radical Optinism. And of course, they couldn't find 1 of the 4 copies it said they had on their website. So while I waited for the team member to look in the back, the Swifty display was packed full on a main aisle endcap. I thought to myself that consumers just don't buy CDs anymore. I noticed last summer that Target cut back on their CD selection. They have even stopped their Target exclusive compilation CDs like the iHeart Radio Ball one from 2013. I wouldn't be surprised if they stop selling CDs like Best Buy. However, vinyl is still hot as ever at the small independent record shops. I have a couple in Austin that I buy from that are staying opened because of vinyl.

Adressed to Infinity haters (106,350)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|

I actually like the verses of Infinity. I thought it was clever, funny and fresh. But it's the chorus that kinda kills it for me and is hard to sing along to. That's what takes the song out for me. But the music, the funny lyrics and all were good. It's definitely not her worst song.

All #2 hits from the 1990s. Some really great songs on the list. I'm pretty surprised that Brian McKnight's "Back at One" never went to #1. Ditto for LeAnn Rimes' "How Do I Live". Both were huge when they were released.

#2s (106,343)
by Randy from USA

Just to change up the air a bit. Yall know I'm a big chart junkie. Mariah is still the queen of #1. It always amazes me the songs that miss #1. Mariah has four #2s in her catalogue. Can't Let Go, Endless Love, Loverboy and Shake It Off. Some of my favorite songs by other artists are #2s. En Vogue never had a number one but all three of the first singles from their albums were #2s. Hold On, My Lovin (Never Gonna Get It), Don't Let Go (Love). Other #2s I regularly play Jewel You Were Meant For Me, Deborah Cox's Nobody's Supposed To Be Here, Whitney Houston ft Faith and Kelly Price Heartbreak Hotel, Madonna's Frozen, Material Girl and Express Yourself. Destiny's Child Survivor, Toni Braxton's He Wasn't Man Enough. Weird fact: Missy Elliot's Work It spent 10 weeks at #2 without ever hitting the top spot.

This is specially addressed to the Infinity haters. Can you explain to me what you dislike? It went to #82 on Billboard, it was well reviewed but critics, and the orchestration what brilliant. I'm curious why people that hate it, dislike it? My only personal grip is that the orchestration is so hopeful, and the lyrics are diss.

Agreed. It's not her best song, but I don't understand why that song is loathed so much. As a track it's fine, nothing triggering in terms of hate of an artist's work.

It's so strange you put a post about this because I was going to ask the same thing. I watched a YouTube filming of her recent shows, someone uploaded a hd version which was pretty good. Anyway, it felt so unnerving watching her constantly reading the words, and it's not like she can't sing at the minute because she was putting teasers out of her singing before the shows. I think about halfway through she's also signing pictures and she's concentrating so much that she stops moving her lips and the playback carries on, she then walks off and is obviously annoyed. I think it was during Always Be My Baby. Not only that her recent Facebook video she was reading a prompt when usually she's just winged those type of candid videos. I'm hoping it's not something more serious but rather her team trying to come up with ideas to make it seem like she's not struggling with her voice so much nowadays. Unless it's been a tactic to try and help her preserve her voice if she has a new album planned, she maybe doesn't want to over exert herself to save it for promo so she's lipsyncing more.

I do worry about Mariah's inability to not do anything without autocue. She has increasingly been seen on stage constantly referring to the autocue, something she never did before, and her latest instagram post about the soul beach festival she can be seen doing the same. Is she in a position where she can't ad-lib a short 15 seconds video or even worse remember the words to her own songs. There could be more to it but just wondering what peoples take on it is.

I'm sure it sounds good, because that was a time were pop music still had melodies while sounding fresh and were radio friendly. I even remember his sister, she had a few hits too. I'm a big soul and jazz fan, but a good pop song is always a win. I can't wait to hear it.

I noticed that on instagram but honestly it's probably laziness. I bet they wrote the words on a cardboard in the middle of her concert and made her read the lines on a good lighting. It's not like she rehearsed the thing and kept forgotting. I know it's not your point but as hysterical as the people here are they are going to diagnose Mariah with Alzheimer in the next posts.
